Even if there is in-game country music, I'm pretty sure it won't be the only type of music available,

The music is used because it FITS the theme of the game. There is a reason for this choice of music.

The reason isn't at all apparent unless you're familiar with Cash and I'm just not persuaded that the set of people who get Cash's music overlaps meaningfully with those who play third person sci-fi shooters.

The premisses of the game and that desert planet made it fit nicely.

No, the reason is apparent the moment you listen to it and are even remotely familiar with America.

I get the Johnny Cash reference but it doesn't stop me feeling meh when I first saw the teaser. I guess I'm not too Americanized after all.

Exactly it does have a sci fi feel to it ewhich is why it was used. That's why tracks like this aer used a lot in Sci fi TV shows like Star Trek and all that are used in those shows. Also 2why they use it in a sci fi game as well. i hope they cfontinue the tradition in Andromeda as well.

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion it fits the theme of the game. Although it does seem a reasonable assessment as exploration seems to be a focus of this game and a parallel with the colonization of the american west might be seen as proper.
However, it might just as well have been chosen because it's a nice music, fits the scenes that are being shown (particular the desert) and, more importantly, keeps you guessing what exactly is the game that you're seeing. It's worth remembering that this trailer was shown at E3, and a lot of people that saw it for the first time had no idea what it was. If it began with original track fromt the trilogy this "suspense" would have been completely lost.

Bioware probably expect new star wars to continue it's space western style sci-fi and are looking to ride the hype out.

The same thing happened in Mortal Kombat X they put Wiz Khalifa in the trailer and there was a riot. The song fits, and i hate country but i respect the meaning behind it and the artist in question.

I can not. This music reminds me too much western movies. But in no way a scie fi game. I try to watch the trailer, but every time when I hear this music.......I stop.
The developers should understand that we are not all American. Developers should understand that we are not all American. And that this music (in a sci fi univers) can offend us.

Johnny Cash doesn't sound anything like Ennio Morricone.

You're joking right? Not everyone here is American.....country-music isn't for everyone.
Get that stereotypical BS out of here. I'm Dutch, European, and I LOVE Johnny Cash.
The song used in the ME:A trailer was perfect and really fitting. It was so well done and so original! I loved it.

It should be simple since the developers aren't American, either.

*adds "music" to the long list of dumb sh*t that people on the internet get offended about*
Seriously, what is wrong with you people? How can MUSIC offend you? You really need to find something better to get offended over. From all the things I've seen people getting offended over on the BSN, this probably takes the lead as literally being the dumbest thing I've seen people getting offended over.

I guess maybe it doesn't count if the game is cancelled.

So because it apparently has been done before (e.g. using country music in a sci-fi game trailer) it's not original? Then I have bad news for you, because with that criteria absolutely NOTHING in this day and age is truly original.

I was more sharing it because it was cool and giving it first credit, but okay.

I got a 'Firefly' vibe from it. Wouldn't mind if the game went in that kind of direction although I do love the Mass Effect trilogy's soundtrack so I hope that's as awesome as ever in ME:A!

this thread makes me hope that they are dropping the generic SciFi music all together. just to annoy people. I mean lets be honest if it were really space the only place we should be hearing music is in towns and on ships. Also I refuse to believe that in the future there is only electronic music.
Well, realism aside it would make for a pretty boring game, if there was no sound in space -.-
I agree though on there not being only electronic music in the future - as we aren't casting off traditional instruments ATM (we already have electronic music, too), so why would people do this in the future? (all our current instruments still have limitless potential - it's up to the one playing the instrument and the one who wrote the piece that's being played to coax it out of the thing but that's it)
greetings LAX
ps: I should know, I played (yes, played - as I foolishly stopped when becoming a teenager...teenage rebellion -.- (sometimes I wish my parents had been stricter with me - and I know they wish that, too ^^)) two distinct instruments (the flute and the keyboard (miniature electronic piano/organ...don't know if you call it that in English though as we Germans - sadly - tend to take English words and use them like they were never intended to be used (I personally hate this trend!), like calling a cellphone a "handy" (no one but a German (native) speaker understands it and it sounds stupid, too!))
