It's not in game music, it's a trailer. It's there to symbolise the old outpost state of civilisation and possibly something deeper.
This music ? are you serious ?

This might come as a shock to you, but Canada doesn't have the same mythos about the frontier that the US has or the same country (or whatever Cash plays in) fandom. And even in the US, I don't think everyone's going to get the reference.

I don't think the music itself is bad but it has nothing to do with Mass Effect. The only thing I hated about the Firefly tv show was the music. I hope I won't hear anything like that in Andromeda.

I thought the song was appropriate for the intro. That Space Cowboy/Pioneer vibe. Cowboy Bebop with biotics? HELLZ YEAH!!! wait wait... Borderlands already did it. whelp...works for the video anyways.,,,,im sure they are going back to the ME1 OST flavor...as they should.

The music fits the trailer very well.
And as to having music completely unrelated to soundtrack of the game during the trailer, it reminds me (from recent games) The Witcher 2&3 launch trailers (Witcher 2 had classical music, while Witcher 3 had "Oats in the Water" by Ben Howard).
But I guess people think, that this will be the tone of the soundtrack in the actual game? Or what's this about?

lol BSN.
My reaction as well.
Its just a damn teaser trailer. The music communicates a point. We will not have freakin Cash itself in the next game's OST. We may have some inclusion of music that communicates a new space frontier. That's about it really.

Not everyone is supposed to 'get it'. Sometimes you just enjoy a fun trailer.
I wish we had more, but still, come on.
EDIT: I'm Canadian.

I thought it was the high point of the trailer.
They used it effectively. Especially when the music distorts during the hyperspace jump and comes back strong.
I would have loved it were I not ill disposed towards the whole thing.

If I were a Bioware employee I think I would be disgusted with threads like this. For real. I'm probably in the minority regarding my positivity and feelings to this trailer but even if I didn't enjoy the SONG on the trailer I cannot imagine complaining about it and acting like it's a sign the game itself is bad or anything. Idk- just seems like a waste of emotional effort to invest. I don't like country at all and I as a NIN fan I don't prefer Cash's cover of the Hurt song but at the same time I respect his work and that there are reasons why he's so hugely famous as a singer.
I think all they were trying to establish is the new frontier aspect of being in another Galaxy- like the wild wild west. And why would be even more appropriate to have hip hop or new agey or techno music?! It wouldn't necessarily.

European here. And if anything I'd be butthurt about how people can't see the bloody obvious connection of the choice of music with the tone of exploration/New Frontier/Manifest Destiny.
If anything, that says something about the educational level, rather than a person's taste in music.

Well, I loved it. The trailer and the music. I wish we got more, a lot more about this game at E3 but me complaining won't change that. We got what we got and I loved it.

Johnny Cash is Johnny Cash. He is a genre unto himself.
This.
Hell, one of his best songs was a cover of Nine Inch Nails.
(better than the original, IMO)
