If I were a Bioware employee I think I would be disgusted with threads like this. For real. I'm probably in the minority regarding my positivity and feelings to this trailer but even if I didn't enjoy the SONG on the trailer I cannot imagine complaining about it and acting like it's a sign the game itself is bad or anything. Idk- just seems like a waste of emotional effort to invest. I don't like country at all and I as a NIN fan I don't prefer Cash's cover of the Hurt song but at the same time I respect his work and that there are reasons why he's so hugely famous as a singer.

I think all they were trying to establish is the new frontier aspect of being in another Galaxy- like the wild wild west. And why would be even more appropriate to have hip hop or new agey or techno music?! It wouldn't necessarily.

Why? Most people in this thread have shown proper fealty to the Man in Black.

Are you really complaining about Johnny motha effin' Cash?! I knew BSN liked to complain but this is just a whole new low....

This.

Hell, one of his best songs was a cover of Nine Inch Nails.

(better than the original, IMO)

Even NiN frontman thinks Johnny Cash did it better.

If Johnny were still around, I'd ask him to cover the Shepard song, just to mess with people.

Which song?

Commander Shepard from Miracle of Sound.

Maybe change the lyrics too:

But no matter what Marks you bear
Whatever hardsuit you wear

You can fight like a Human, run like a varren

but you'll never better than Spectre Saren.

I loved Johnny Cash's cover of Ghost Riders, don't get me wrong, The man was a legend.

It's a matter of what is Bioware going for with this in relation to the story?

Here's my problem with the music; Mass Effect is set in the future (at least 2186, maybe more for Andromeda). That's at least 171 years away from now. How often do you listen to non-classical music from even 100 years ago? I'd be hard pressed to even name a popular musician from 1915, let alone 1844. But apparently the person in the trailer is listening to Johnny Cash while scanning planets.

Either 1) the person in the trailer has a specialised interest in obscure, two hundred year old music, or 2) Johnny Cash has joined Mozart and Beethoven as a musician that is remembered long after he's dead.

You're joking right? Not everyone here is American.....country-music isn't for everyone.

I'm not American, I hate country music but only the deepest philistine would dislike Johnny Cash.

I now kind of wish they had used A'int No Grave for a ME2 teaser trailer.

Not everyone is supposed to 'get it'. Sometimes you just enjoy a fun trailer.

I wish we had more, but still, come on.

EDIT: I'm Canadian.

Well, yeah, but his music isn't something I enjoy. There's also that part. I can accept I'm in the minority with that one, but people here have to accept not everyone like his genre.

This might come as a shock to you, but Canada doesn't have the same mythos about the frontier that the US has or the same country (or whatever Cash plays in) fandom. And even in the US, I don't think everyone's going to get the reference.

lol.

And this is important to an ad campaign aimed at North American audiences as a whole because?  Bioware isn't some obscure Canadian developer who makes games for a Canadian audience and graciously imports them to the US on a whim. They market their games for North American audiences as a whole. And I'd be genuinely stunned if the level of cultural bleed-over between Canada and the US (and Mexico to a lesser extent) since the invention of TV somehow skipped over Johnny G*ddamn Cash.

But please, keep justify your knee-jerk reaction to american music in a commercial. Maybe try that old chestnut "Not everyone is from America, you know?"

I don't know why you're so offended at the notion that people are either (i) unfamiliar with Cash (ii) don't like his music very much or (iii) both. It's totally possible to vaguely know who Cash is without really listening to his music. It's not a big deal, except apparently to you, because Johnny Cash is some unbelievable music icon.

Can I remark that I find it odd that people said that the teaser was pointless because it doesn't reveal anything about the game, but people are then coming to conclusions about the game's soundtrack because of the trailer music. That counts as revealing something.

I personally loooove the trailer and have watched it a dozen times. I love how the guy is just casually flipping through planets that will hopefully be in the game. The music keeps the mood lighthearted, which Mass Effect could use after ME3's constant depressing tone. I get the vibes of a new frontier waiting to be conquered, how could you not like it. And not just because it's Johny Cash, but because it's just a good song for a trailer meant to hype you up.

I also can't seem to understand what people mean by "it doesn't feel like Mass Effect". Such a silly complaint, since we've known since the beginning that this is a fresh start for the series. It doesn't have to feel like old Mass Effect, because it isn't old Mass Effect. Don't ever become game developers, because we need series to be fresh and continue evolving, not be stuck in the past and stay the same. That's one of the bad things about today's gaming industry. Why oh why can't people just get over this already?

Old Mass Effect is done, gone. Its story has been told, and there's nothing Bioware can do with it thanks to the endings. Instead of consolidating player choices further for the sake of a canon, which we all know people would crap on it all the same if they did that, they're going to let dead horses rest and try to do something new. If you don't agree with it you can simply not play it, but try not to hold the series back or expect Bioware to hold it back to satisfy a small minority.

Also lava tornadoes. How can you not love lava tornadoes?

Maybe they picked Johnny Cash music because we're gonna have to build our ship One Piece At A Time.

First, it's a promo.

Second, Bio may want to promote the idea that Andromeda is the new Wild West.
