Not trying to be rude but wow I just joined this forum yesterday and I feel like some people are just being negative for no reason and looking for anything to complain about. I think Johnny Cash was a great choice. I don't think the whole game is going to end up having a country soundtrack but we'll see. Anyway the music in the trailer was great because when it first came on most people probably didn't think it was Mass Effect and also it sets the tone for letting you feel like you're some badass hero out exploring the galaxy.

EDIT: Some classic Bowie or Rocketman from Elton John might have been a better choice tbh

So true. I'm just about 99% sure that the game itself won't include such tracks. Anyone that's complaining about the music choice for a teaser trailer is just grasping at straws.

Johnny Cash makes you feel like a "badass hero out exploring the galaxy"?

Like a Western, we'll be going to the unexplored, dangerous frontier... which is entirely the vibe they're going for, hence Johnny Cash?

While I like Johnny Cash, in context with Mass Effect I felt that it was rather off putting. It's just a trailer though. The real game music may be perfectly fine.

Human beings who can't appreciate Johnny Cash didn't deserve to be born.

Seriously who's Johnny Cash ?

But I agree with op, that music was out of place.

I don't know who's more out of touch... me/Bioware/older fans for thinking this is fine.

Or the younger or foreign fans who don't know Johnny Cash.

I mean, I'm surprised this is even an "issue". It's a natural fit. And I don't even care for the trailer otherwise. Wild west stuff has always been associated with sci-fi. Everything from anime (Cowboy Bebop) to Star Wars plays this up.

Lol, you know what ? The USA are a small country on Earth, we in Europe or Asia don't know who the hell is Johnny Cash because we don't like or listen country music, it's just not popular at all here. Because you know all the big singers in Europe or Asia ? Probably not.

So stop acting like that seriously.

What? I'm not directing that at you. It's my own observation. It just happened to be under your post. And I said specifically "I don't know who's more out of touch". As in, I'm confused.. Like both sides seem very disconnected from each other here. There's a big gap between both sides it seems.

Also, I'm Asian myself. Just American. So yeah, I do know quite a bit of Japanese, some Chinese, and Thai stuff. If you want to know. :D Some Euro stuff too.. I'm a musician myself, so I tend to like anything. I like "sound".

You're joking right? Not everyone here is American.....country-music isn't for everyone.

You do know right that Johnny Cash is the most successful country musician of all time with millions of fans world wide?

I think the song used in this teaser trailer, yes nerds teaser trailer, works pretty well with the theme of it.

Lol at nerd rage

If people actually listened to the lyrics they'd understand why that song fits so well with the trailer, but I'm sure it's far easier to be a part of the common rabble and make zoo noises because you heard a country song in your precious Mass Effect: Andromeda teaser trailer.

As for soundtrack concerns, anyone who actually thinks they'll be listening to licensed music in the game is a dolt.

I know the lyrics myself, but I'm not sure how it fits. Ghostiders plays up on the old Wild Hunt myth (like the same one Witcher uses). About phantom hunters on a ceaseless hunt in the skies, paying some penance for one reason or another. The western version just uses cowboys. But not sure how it relates to Mass Effect. Kind of interesting to think about though....

I thought it fitted quite well into the whole new frontier vibe I'm presuming BW is going for.

Ok no problem ;)

I m just telling you that in Europe (I live there) Johnny Cash isn't well know today and nobody is listening to country music (maybe a small minority, even on radio it's really hard to find some), people like more Pop,Rock, Rap, RnB etc, we only hear that kind of music in Westerns.

It's fine not to know who Johnny Cash is but come on, he's far from being obscure, especially in Europe. A posthumous album was released last year and it made the Top 10 in the weekly charts in most European countries.

Most? Doubtful. Could be but I didn't hear about it.

I do think people have heard the name but I personally don't know anyone who listens to that kind of music, except me.

So maybe in England, because I was born in Poland, lived in Germany and now living in France and I never heard any country music on the radio or TV, or even about a friend who likes this kind of music. Sure I heard about Johnny Cash once or twice but that's all, today is the first time I m listening to his music, because of Mass Effect.

Growing up, my father hated country music.  To the point where most of it was outright banned from the house (long story.)  Three artists that were allowed was Alabama, David Allan Coe and Johnny Cash.

Someone from Europe not knowing who Johnny Cash is one thing.  I had a friend of mine born and raised in North Carolina that had never heard of him.  When Johnny Cash and John Ritter (the actor) both died on the same day, he didn't understand why I cared about Johnny Cash.  He thought Johnny Cash was an actor like John Ritter was!

As far as the song, I like it.  It's an unusual choice, but I've seen country music mixed in with sci-fi themes before.  It works for me here.  Beware of the devil, of the Wild Hunt, for it may consume your soul.  We'll see how that plays out.  It's probably another case of us fans reading more into it than there really is.

Besides, nothing is going to top BioWare using Marilyn Manson to sell DA:O.  Man, that was ridiculous.

A man after my own heart musically.  ;)

A general statement that Johnny Cash isn't well known in Europe is a pretty dumb thing to write. It could be that you and the people you know, who after all represents quite a small part of the total population, don't know much about him, but millions of people in Europe not only knows who he is but also loves his music.

Y'know, I'm from England, I'm in my mid-twenties and even though I'm not a fan of country music, I'm still aware of who Johnny Cash is...

So I don't think it's about living in the US, age or liking country music, I think it's more to do with how pop-culture savvy you are?

Weird because shooting people and/while listening to country music must be a Texas thing :D

BTW I hate Toronto I lost so much money this season because of the Mapple Leafs that lousy team :P

PS: as for Johnny Cash I can see he's a guy from the 60s and 70s, so yeah maybe he was popular in Europe back then but with the new generations from the 80s and 90s or even 2000s that's not the case anymore.
