If you're a gay mShep or straight fShep, romance wasn't all too fair. The games really seemed to cater to straight mShep and lesbian fShep. (Or bisexual Shep of either gender.)

To avoid what happened with DA:I - which caused massive upset regarding the sudden shift of romance options - maybe romance can just be equally divvied up? Seems like, at the end of the day, that's what everyone would agree on. Well, almost everyone. I know there are people out there who would rather romances just play out in whatever capacity for the sake of the story. I respect that.

But in the end, more will agree that it kinda sucks when options are limited for certain heroes of certain orientations/genders.

When Dragon Age 2 did it, people complained about how unrealistic that so many companions were Bi.

Honestly, I was cool with out Dragon Age: Inquisition handled it. Personally could have done less with Josephine being a romcom cliche though.

I still can't decide between having characters who have a more fixed identity (with a fixed sexuality) versus having player-sexual romances. Frankly, I think having more fixed identities is better character writing, but player-sexual romances is a much more sensible game-design choice, as it removes artificial barriers from players being able to experience content how they want to.

Personally I was cool with DAI too, but I'm biased. In the grander scheme of things, I think I'd like it to be fair.

I agree, instead of everyone just being bisexual people started calling them player sexual.  I wonder if BioWare would just go the route of having everyone equal by have 0 romance options.

I do not at all agree that the same amount of resources should be spent on a segment which comprises <10% of players and a segment which comprises >50%.

I was cool with how DA2 handled it, DAI not so much with their skewed and bloated number. Focus the resources on a small number of romances available to everyone.

Yeah. For me, character identity in a game setting is so much deeper than sexual orientation. The romance/sex just kinda feels like a fun bonus, so I say why not make it available across the board?

That's sounding more attractive by the day.

There was a time where I would have scoffed at the idea that BioWare's games are dragged down by their romances. But looking at the reaction to Inquisition and some comments I've read from the developers concerning them, I'm increasingly convinced it might very well be true.

I don't want a cheesy relationship.  As much as I love Liara -- it felt too much as a cheesy romance..

Technically, yes.

All or none.

Someone suggested no romance - that is fair too. But they already advertised that there will be romance, so that's not an option.

All or none? seems a bit extreme to me.  I just hope Bioware stays consistent from beginning to end on the romance options.  Same with DA:O to DA 2 with Anders like what they did to Kaidan ME1 o ME3.  Do not change character orientation to appease the fans.  Two great characters turned into silly emotional kids stuck in adult bodies.

Oh, first a character thread was made and now there is a romance thread. People are already fighting about Liara in this forum even while we wouldn't probably see her in the next game.

I can support this point, I don't know the numbers (anyone here who does?) but the amount of people who have a straight sexual preference trumps the amount of people who have a gay/no sexual preference as far as I'm aware. So why would there be as many gays as there would be straights? That doesn't really make sense empirically...

I was kinda bummed out by most female characters in DA:I too. Save Cassandra, I felt that none of the ladies was really worthwhile persuing, character- and esthetic wise...

All I am really hoping for is there to be strong characters throughout the game. I mean, I loved Tali for instance, as a character, still I never actually romanced her. But this 'friendship' and understanding between my character and hers was priceless, and I hope I'll find the same kind of bonding again, regardless of whether the character is an LI for my PC or not.

It was taking its sweet-ass time. I was starting to get worried. I was almost considering starting one myself!

I'll likely be fine no matter what they do. I'd like to say the same for everyone else here.

I guess. But what if nearly every party member was written for a gay male hero except for maybe one? I'd be super happy about that, personally, but there would be a lot of angry fans.

From a game design it's probably the best choice and I didn't mind how DA2 did it either.

Have they even compared there will be romance content? This isn't the same studio, after all.

I actually really like this idea... The 'romances' in Bioware games tend to be, for the most part, awful anyways. I feel that part of the reason for this is because they are having to add so many options, in order to cater to a variety of sexual identities, which only serves to achieve a very lacklustre experience overall regardless of the option you go for.

I would like to see just two or three romance storylines that are extended throughout the games duration with a lot of substance, or just none at all. Lets leave the three nice dialogue choices culminating in a timid climax in the past please.

Its Bioware, they're not about to deviate from a cornerstone of their identity in their flagship franchise.

They said this:

from BioWare:

"While we aren’t ready to go into too many details just yet, as you saw in the trailer and can tell by the name, this game is very much a new adventure, taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy. You will play a human, male or female, though that’s actually not the character you saw in the trailer (more on that later). You’ll be exploring an all-new galaxy, Andromeda, and piloting the new and improved Mako you saw. And through it all, you will have a new team of adventurers to work with, learn from, fight alongside of, and fall in love with."
