I'd think it would probably come up in the very beginning stages of brainstorming, before any characters were fully realized.

But since I've never been in their boardroom I really can't speculate, and should probably drop this train of thought.

I've written many a story over the years, and when I create characters I establish what their sexualities are and let it flow from there.

Thing is, I've never written for a video game. In my case it was short stories, which clearly requires different thinking. So yeah, I can't assume much either as to exactly what their process is. All I can do is hope.

As a heterosexual female, DAI certainly was a new experience insofar as all of the options at my disposal.  That being said, I am not building up expectations of that proportion for ME:A until more information is revealed.  Then expectations WILL BE SET AT MAXIMUM, as per usual.

Go big or go home, eh?   ;)

We're attracted to both genders, therefore it must be harder to control ourselves.  So the excuse I've been told says.

My personal favorite is the misconception that bisexuals have the highest rate of STD transmissions.  That stat actually belongs to the aging Baby Boomer community.  Disgusting, sad, but true.

SMH. Wow, people really don't think things through before they speak.

The best one: "All bisexuals are actually lazy.  They don't feel like being gay or straight, because that takes too much work."  I wish I was making that up, but I actually had someone say that to me in a post in the DA forums.

Over a year later and I still find it hard to believe that I saw that on the BSN, or anywhere really.  I've been called greedy and selfish for being bisexual, but lazy was a new one on me.

As a straight guy myself, I have no place directly in the LGBT community. Because of this I used to be under the impression that it was somewhat of a united front.

WRONG.

Spoiler

So yeah. Lets have Bioware rep everyone the right way.

The trans community is subject to all sorts of harassment as well, even from within the gay community.  People are sometimes plain awful, no matter how they swing and who they swing it with.  I also hate it when the LGBT community uses "straight male" as an insult as well.

You and me both.  If I had known it was all about laziness, I would have saved myself a few years of pain and harassment in high school.

I was referring specifically to the romance content.

With the romances, Bioware put so much effort into having lots of them and diverse kinds that the romances had less depth than the ones in, say, ME2. Basically, the problem was they went for quantity over quality.

Why is the assumption made that resources spent on romance are so limited that Bioware has to resort to the playersexual option again? They lacked the resources to do what they really wanted to do in DA2 so they resorted to playersexuality. Inquisition didn't have that problem as the resources were there.

I'd like to think Bioware and EA as a whole(not just the Dragon Age team) learned from that and will now try to allow enough resources to not have to implement playersexuality ever again.

well there is a thing called EA...money grubbin dudes/dudettes over there.

Well, EA did said that the game will be out when it's ready, and not before. Also, EA has changed, for good imo.

Okay, I normally find a sort of illogic to these things, but I actually can't parse that one.

Maybe you're just really talented at being attracted to people?

The problem with Liara in ME1 is so many of us wanted to just talk to her like anyone else but it progressed into her thinking we wanted to bone.

That is actually true of almost every Mass Effect LI until Mass Effect 3.

You can't be friendly with Ashley in ME1 either without her taking it as romantic interest. Shepard can go the gentle rejection route with Tali in ME2 and say something like, "I'm flattered Tali, but I wouldn't want to jeopardize your health." Tali for some reason mistakes that as 'we are datng now,' and later demands Shepard be up front and 'choose' if Shepard is romancing Miranda or Jack, even though Shepard already made a clear choice. Jack also mistakes Shepard coming to talk to her below decks as romantic interest, though to be fair in her case that was by design and it made sense for her character.

I've read this over and over, and it still doesn't make any sense to me. Dorian's character resonated with people who have put up with similar issues in real life. If he was straight, it wouldn't make any sense.

I guess I need someone to explain to me what comprises the "straight" experience that isn't already embodied in... most media across most mediums.

I said similar experience that resonates with straight people in particular.  I didnt say his story would make sense if he was straight.  I am trying to say if straight people had a romance subplot that was beautifully done like Dorian's subplot that struck a chord with people in similar circumstances then I have a feeling that gay/bi people would not leave it alone and be pissed off that didn't get to experience it. I have a feeling that Bioware would be forced to change their orientation (since its not explicitly stated what the character's orientation like Anders/Kaidan) so they can experience the romantic subplot.

My best friend, who's gender queer and bisexual, laughed his butt off when I told him.  He was just as confused as I was.  To this day, I can't figure that one out.  The rest...it makes a sort of bizarre sense, but that one is beyond me.

Hmm, I like that.  I'm not greedy, I'm just talented at being attracted to various people.   :P

@ailenatedflea  Are you kidding me?  Most gay and lesbian players are too busy enjoying and hoping for more options in the future to worry too much about the stories for the straight male players.  They may discuss story differences, but there isn't any overt sort of jealousy over the actual stories.  There's an active thread for a gay romance suggestion open right now.  The focus isn't about being outraged or incensed over the stories in straight content.  It's been about seeing new ideas for the future.  You're making some weird assumptions about the LGBT+ players, and/or those that enjoy that content.

I was actually educating a couple of people on Xbox Live last night/this morning on sexism towards men. Yes it exists, its rampant actually, and the horrible thing about it is people give it a pass because we're men and we're supposed to take it. So yeah, terrible people exist in all colors, creeds, sexualities, genders, etc etc.

Gotta let go of the "Big Bad EA" thing. EA is what gave Inquisition more time;enough time for multiple races, better use of resources, etc etc.

"I'm flattered, but I wouldn't want to jeopardize your health" can be perceived as, "I like you too, but I don't want to have sex with you because of the danger".

Romance shouldn't hinge on bedroom workouts.

I firmly speak up anytime I see anyone using another person's race, religion, gender or sexual preference against them.  I don't care if they are the Western majority or not.  It's not right for someone to do it to the LGBT+ community and it sure doesn't make it right for a non-hetero person to do it to someone that's straight.

Garrus' was pretty deep, imho.  I can't speak for the male PC LIs.  I can't handle the Sheploo gorilla stomp animation, so I haven't tried the ladies yet.
