You people are very draining in your obsession towards having 6-8 different romances that cater to everyone's needs. Do you know that? We barely know anything about the game, and you're already starting your insistent babbling about being fair to the gay/trans community. There are way more important things to talk about or be concerned about this game.

There's a reason why David Gaider made a comment about regretting having this unwritten standard that all Bioware games need to have romances. Because it's not about telling a love story anymore. It's about filling out a diversity quota for every sexual preference out there, because at some point down the line, Bioware became a virtual pimp for a portion of the fanbase.

Romances aren't leaving Bioware games, unfornately. Unless Bioware leaves them.

I have very little doubt that that's what BioWare recieves the most praise for these days.

They probably get very few emails from players praising them on how well their plot was written. But they no doubt have countless ones sent by people gushing over how super-duper awesome it is to see 'themselves' reflected in whatever minority BioWare decides to represent in a romance.

They're not going to give up on that source of praise. Stupid, but human nature.

I can support this point, I don't know the numbers (anyone here who does?) but the amount of people who have a straight sexual preference trumps the amount of people who have a gay/no sexual preference as far as I'm aware. So why would there be as many gays as there would be straights? That doesn't really make sense empirically..

I do not at all agree that the same amount of resources should be spent on a segment which comprises <10% of players and a segment which comprises >50%.

Yeah lets support " since you are a minority, your options should be limited" thing. So fair.

They said this:

from BioWare:

"While we aren’t ready to go into too many details just yet, as you saw in the trailer and can tell by the name, this game is very much a new adventure, taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy. You will play a human, male or female, though that’s actually not the character you saw in the trailer (more on that later). You’ll be exploring an all-new galaxy, Andromeda, and piloting the new and improved Mako you saw. And through it all, you will have a new team of adventurers to work with, learn from, fight alongside of, and fall in love with."

People say that about characters all the time, in every piece of media. Look at the other two words "work with, learn from" - that doesn't necessarily mean there'll be a specific mechanic to literally learn from them. I'm not saying they won't have romances, I'm just saying they haven't confirmed it as a feature yet.

Its Bioware, they're not about to deviate from a cornerstone of their identity in their flagship franchise.

It's the Bioware brand, but it's not the same studio. That matters. Though I suppose TOR is a counter-argument on that front.

That's simple and plain reality. The day we each have our own magical personal dimension to live in filled with a population of people to cater to us is the day these things aren't an issue anymore.

But surprise, surprise, in the real world, resources and people are limited. Imagine that.

Uh, yes? I'm sorry but if give or take 10% of the people are gay, then the odds of them being present in the game at some point should empirically be lower than a group of people which comprises of 90 percent. This is basic stats, not limiting someone's option, or worse yet, forcing everyone to be bi because people may feel left out. I find that a little revolting to be honest.

I was actually concerned that they might shift the options more in favor to the minority, thus upsetting the majority (which was a pretty ugly sight when DAI rolled around.)

The whole point of my OP was to avoid that kind of backlash. Not to "cater" to the gay and trans community. Not that the suggestion of such should be something to be ashamed of. If someone wants to cater to the gay and trans community - what is so wrong with that? Jeez.

Just have a bi male and bi female to romance.

Everyone has an option, hopefully they can focus and make them somewhat more fleshed out, and we don't have romance bloat.

Oh, look, I seem to have found myself in a romance thread.

So, yeah. Hi and everything.

I like BioWare romances. I think they are...well done. And written. And acted.

That is all. I shall now run away screaming, looking for a place to hide.

Just give me a male human romance option and I will be alright. BioWare please...please do not make Drack (the krogan) a romance at all!

I just want strong romances with a deep connection and a good story. If I have to play as a different gender to romance them, then I'll create a character of that gender.

I think characters feel more real with a set sexuality, but that's just me, and I'm not trying to force my opinions on anyone.

They come into you house and they force you to be bi/gay in the video game. Lol

Go with DA:O, two straight, two bi.

Everyone wins.

Not that I care that much about the number of romances, I was pretty happy with Cassandra's.

That's not my point. My point is that in order to cater to the needs of 'the community' they could possibly force their own characters (aka not you or me) to be bi, which I find ridiculous. Why can't people accept some people are gay, some are straight and some are bi. If a character you like is not gay/straight, whilst you are gay/straight, then suck it up and appreciate the character for what he/she/it is.

My thoughts exactly. I would be very interested to see what the reception would be towards a game by BioWare written without any romances. It would certainly be the fairest option.

In my opinion, the best approach would be the original concept for DAI: 2 straight romances (male/female) 2 bisexual (male female) and 2 S/S romances (male/female).

DAI was going to be like that, but the year plus of time gave the time to make Cullen and Solas romances, but restricted to only one sexuality and few races due to time restrictions and character (Cullen was probably scrapped as BI earlier in developmant since he was never thought as anything but straight, and being the third male in a row in BioWare games to came out of the closet would have felt repetitive)

Of course it would depend on how many companions we got, and if BioWare would still keep their intention to give at least two romances for every sexuality.

Nothing? I'm just saying it wasn't confirmed.

No. It wasn't written in blood. But the likelihood of them making the statement, "that you can fall in love with" and later saying, "Oh no we didn't put romance in the game..." is low. Very low.

Had they been on the fence about putting romance in the game, they wouldn't have hinted that strongly toward it in the first place. I say "hinted" loosely, since it was such a blatant endorsement.

Edit: For the record, I'm not against taking the romance out of the games.
