I think that was a compliment, but..huh?

I really like the whole EDI/Joker romance. I didn't like the unit that EDI was stuck in, but that is another story. So colour me intrigued. I would love to see something like this in a future Bioware game. But i agree, explore organic relationships first.

I really did liked it as well.  I don't think the ME series is going to go there for awhile, but I could certainly see it happening.

There is a conversation in ME 3 in which Joker pretty much asks Mordin for advice on how to have sex with EDI.

I just hope we don't have another Jacob Taylor incident.

Why not explore organic and machine relationships at the same time, I mean Mass effect series already done it. We had two games with the EDI/Joker relationship, which is my favorite relationship in the ME series. I think it could work, plus it would give us a chance to explore an asexual relationship.

You, I like.  :P

To be honest, and I know you were probably joking, but I wouldn't be surprised if the writers had kicked around the idea at some point.  They didn't do a bad job of exploring the concepts of transhumanism with EDI and Legion in my opinion, but I don't think they'd make a robo-stud/robo-babe a LI.  Writing alien romances can be tricky as it is.  They probably don't want to get into a human/robot pairing.

The idea isn't a bad one, considering we're in the future and a lot of the whole idea behind, "What's alive?  What makes a soul?" has probably been taken to new levels, with or without Shep's story.  Mortal nature being what it is, I'm sure that in ME:A, VIs are running around, and possibly AIs as well.  A romance could explore some of those extensional questions further.  It also seems like a right pain in the ass to get right and I can see them wanting to explore the organic relationships first.

I've been thinking about the idea the past couple of days, so it's interesting to see it come up.

I agree with you about the chances of them doing it being pretty slim. But I had a crush on Data when I little, and I really loved Legion and EDI.

I would be intrigued by an asexual romance with a character like Vision from Age of Ultron. I think it's the combination of childlike wonder and aged wisdom. I find that kind of juxtaposition fascinating.

They could play around with character models -  e.g. "is this a form you find pleasing?"

Wanting a synthetic relationship is the same as that guy who made the thread about Fleshlights earlier.

Except he was joking. I think.

Wanting some metallic looking humanoid is no different of a fetish than wanting some blue skinned human with head tentacles instead of hair.

Or someone that looks very bird-like...or someone in locked into a suit....or a Krogan...

Yeah, I agree here.

I like the idea of a scene like that, with the AI trying to find a way to navigate the romantic terrain.

Not that I think the PC should have control over the LIs appearance. I think that in order for the romance to progress, the PC would need to encourage the AI to find the form that they prefer.

I'm really enthusiastic about the concept. I might make a thread for this.

Isn't that pretty much how the Recall memory package is offered?

I think the available romances should reflect actual demographics. Hard to imagine anything more fair than that.

Is it? Huh. I often love AI characters, but I can see what might turn someone off about this. I think this kind of thing needs to be done carefully, if at all.

Sorry if it weirds you out.

It's all pretty fringe. Although I might say a metal penis is slightly more innocuous than a Krogan one.

Anyways, this is where I distance myself from other fans. It embarrasses me.

There's the thing. You seem to be reading a sexual relationship into this. Some of us aren't.

I'm actually talking about an entirely asexual romance.

Huh?  Sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of space magic from radiation exposure; Reapers; an all female race of blue alien babes that can mate with anyone; a race that has at least one extra set of organs; and the very idea of Mass Effect relays and fields.   The Illusive Man bringing my character back to life for enough money after being spaced and crashing into a planet might have done something to my reading comprehension.

Something something "reflecting 21 Century views and perceived reality for sexuality."

I think there's something valuable in exploring how incomprehensibly meaningless appearance could be vis-a-vis romantic feelings, e.g. the LI AI switches from a body like EDI's to one like Ultron's before a combat mission (along with the voice change) with absolutely no apprehension someone might find that off-putting.

While I get the social message behind "choose your image for yourself", I actually think it rounds counter to the power behind having a character so detached from physicality.

Isn't that pretty much how the Recall memory package is offered?

I'm not sure I get the reference to total recall here.

When Quaid goes to Recall, he selects the type of woman he wants to meet in his simulated vacation, and even chooses the personality (sleazy).

More than that, I'm trying to imagine the practical application. Aside from letting the player actually design the LI AI's appearance, or choose from a set of several options...

or, like you said, just keep changing form regularly. Which I think would be as off-putting for me as a player as it would be for the characters in universe.
