So..no Odo romance then?

When Quaid goes to Recall, he selects the type of woman he wants to meet in his simulated vacation, and even chooses the personality (sleazy).
Also one of three body types, if you're talking about the 90s film version.
Now that's what I would find a little uncomfortable. If this kind of thing were to happen, I wouldn't want there to be a lot of focus on physical aspects in the first place.
More than that, I'm trying to imagine the practical application. Aside from letting the player actually design the LI AI's appearance, or choose from a set of several options...
or, like you said, just keep changing form regularly. Which I think would be as off-putting for me as a player as it would be for the characters in universe.
I don't think it has to be "regularly". I just think it's something to work with - to an AI, changing physical forms could very well be like changing a haircut or wearing make-up to us.
Please do. I think it would be an interesting topic for a thread.
We'll see. If Street's reaction is any indication of a general perception, I'm not sure I have the emotional fortitude to deal with it right now.
Maybe later, when the general tenor of the forum feels less volatile to me.

Well I do think that BioWare would probably do well to avoid the whole customize your LI thing. If you wanna customize them, just get them nicer armor and weapons.

Looking forward to it ![]()

Now there's an intriguing thought. In order to pull something like that off, I could see a few possibilities:
1) Projected Holograms. On the plus side, it allows the devs to keep one standard skeleton as a base model. The downside is that I could see such an idea not translating well to physical affection.
2) Liquid metal. I know it's cheesy, but kind of like the T-1000. This would allow for some different forms. The downside to this is that liquid animation is still very hard to do correctly. IIIRC, liquid and hair/fur are some of the hardest things to animate.
3) Bio-Organic Alloy: It has many of the same problems as above. However, if you keep it to only things that fit a base skeleton (say, only being able to transform into humans and Asari,) it could have some different forms without making it way too hard to pull off. If it was done as a remolding of facial structure and coloring, the process wouldn't have to be shown on screen. Most of the time; watching a transformation like that once would really drive the point home.
That's just my take on it.

Understandable. I would attempt to make a thread on it myself but mine always end up either horribly misunderstood or dead in two hours.

I didn't mean to suggest you'd do the picking, though I get how my original comment could have come across that way. I was thinking more along the lines of how, say, I might grow a beard and ask my partner if it looked hot, and then (almost predictably) get told that I had to "shave that abominable thing off" if I ever wanted to feel human touch ever again.

Ha! Odo was cool. Not my ideal vision for an alien companion, but cool.

I liked his style, but I agree. I gotta admit, carrying around a LI companion in a special bucket like Odo had to sleep in is a fairly amusing thought.
I would not be adverse to a gendered or pseudo-gendered AI romance. I definitely would have gone for EDI had she been an option. That voice (and rig...).

15+ years later and I'm still recovering, WHY WOULD YOU REMIND ME ![]()

I didn't think he was that bad....

What happened between him and Kira was just the worst >.< It was creepy!

Me neither. I enjoyed the romance between Kira and he, as well.

<shrug> I don't know. I found Captain Kirk's policy of "If it looks like a human woman, I'll shag it" was more creepy. Plus, how can we forget Data's off and on thing with Tasha Yar/cloned Tasha?
Now that was squicky to me. One person has no emotions or a sex drive, and the other is a human woman or a cloned human woman combined with alien DNA. It took a weird love drug/magic/whatever alien ploy that got the plot going that week in order for them to hook up the first time. ![]()
I absolutely want an AI romance, so long as the AI is female. Of course, I think AI should always be female, period.
One great thing is that is has a built-in conflict practically begging to be talked about.

You expected anything different?
Hmm if an AI LI is ever introduced I don't really want any gender put on it course I suppose I'm a bit of a weirdo as I wouldn't want much of a too detailed body on it either to give it a gender but such a thing can't be avoided as voice would put a gender on it and a voice is very much needed unless it had conflicting ones I suppose like a maleish body but a femaleish voice or vice versa but I can easily see a lot of people not being cool with that. Or it swapping between bodies and voices but that wouldn't be a good idea resource wise I'm sure.

Nope, he said it before in the past too

If they were to go with an ambiguous, morphing, or third gender route, I'd like them to explore it on an organic level first. I'm intrigued by the idea of a AI/robot romance, but something like what you suggested might work better as an alien race. It would be an interesting counterbalance to having a monogendered race in the series.
Edit: Since this is related to the thread topic, I'd like to recommend that some folks read this thread here: http://forum.bioware...chetypes/page-1
It's like ships. You always make them female. Just tradition. Ships built by men, crewed by men, you give them a female name. It fits better than a male one. Likewise, you have AIs built by men, programmed by men, serving other interests that are likely male-centric. You make them female.
