Always watching always judging. Always judging!
The Lurkers, and I mean this affectionately:

I'm waiting for a chance to jump in.
Ships both have been historically and currently are refered to as female. That's a plain and simple fact. Male name or not, as I explicitly pointed out and both gave a simple and plausible explanation for.
You can dance around all you want but you said ships have female names, I provided a small list of ships that don't. If you want to backpeddle and say that your argument is really about what pronouns they have then fine, but outside of Wikipedia talking about ships things built by men aren't as a rule referred to in the feminine.
But hey, feel free to whine about a trivial and wholly irrelevant issue of nomenclature and graciously pat yourself on the back as a dispenser of wisdom for doing so.
*pats self on back*
You're welcome.
Feel kind of sorry for the OP this thread went into chaos super quickly though with the numbers I am a little curious if the LIs are going to be mainly humans, kind of personally wanting some more aliens but thats just me. If I were to narrow it down too I'd really like a female Turian and a male Krogan. Can see the Turian happening but not the Krogan ![]()

Hence the aformentioned trivial and wholly irrelevant issue of nomenclature?

I hope that there is never, ever, ever a Krogan romance.
That's right, I said it.

Don't jinx it.
Here's where I get really lost. Let's say it was actually true that things made by dudes get labelled with feminine pronouns. My toaster doesn't become a woman just because a call it "Susan". Wheares AI - which is a sapient person - might very well have a wholly alien identity, where calling it a particular gender makes as much sense as talking about its having DNA.

I'll explain this nice and slowly. I was not accusing you of thinking woman are objects. You were accusing the Illusive Man and hence, myself, of thinking women are objects on the basis of prefering an AI to be female instead of a male. I pointed out how stupid that was.
Is that clear enough?
Sure, it's clear enough. But I fail to see how "stupid" my perfectly reasonable point of view was. You are not TIM; this has nothing to do with you, and I was not talking about you. Just because I called one [fictional] straight man a womanizer doesn't mean I believe all straight men everywhere are womanizers.
Again with the jumping to strange conclusions. He is a womanizer, and while this statement is simply an opinion, it's got plenty of evidence to back it up. You're taking this oddly personally for someone who is not the fictional character I made a passing mention of.
Seriously, I was just using him as an example of someone who makes AIs and the like based on their own personal preference, hence EDI and Eva being made as females.
Hence the aformentioned trivial and wholly irrelevant issue of nomenclature?
That you're all worked up about and keep responding to?
It's almost as if you're original point was kind of silly and could have just been kept to "I want a female AI" without trying to reason for it.

I think it's because we were all chuckling at how specific he was that it must be a lady. If he wants a lady bot to try a romance with, I have thought an AI romance is an interesting idea. He could leave the "but it must be female due to our real world tendency of giving ships and cars female names; at this that's what wiki and our world says" out of it.
I want a male Quarian for a LI in ME:A if possible, and I'd like a lesbian/bisexual knight-in-shining-armor for DA. I don't care if Quarians don't exist in our world, or if bisexual lady knights are less likely to have existed in the real Middle Ages. It's just what I'd like to see. Considering one series is Space Fantasy and the other is Sword and Magic Fantasy, the insistence of adhering to oddly specific things from our world is weird.
It usually comes down to sexuality and gender, more often than not. Okay, things like armor do get talked about, but very often the realism argument in these types of threads can be summed up as:
"I'm not comfortable with ladies being shown in a different power structure than the one I see in the Western World. I'm not used to women I don't find attractive as LIs in BioWare games. I'm not comfortable with seeing LGBT people in video games. Therefore, I'm going to find whatever silly real world excuse I can to make the developers see the light and stop pandering to women/feminists/LGBT people. I support them in real life, but I don't want them to exist in my video games. I'm not used to it, I don't like it and it makes me uneasy."
I can't say I'm sympathetic to that mindset.

I'd like a bisexual male Quarian.
Preferably with an English accent and a voice like Simon Templeman's or Zaal'Koris'.

You're probably right. I probably should put less concern into explaining myself to others. I'm going to remind you again that I did in fact say flat-out this was not an issue of 'making sense,' which I would have thought would make it more or less clear that, yes, this was pretty much a 'silly' preference and not some sort of analytical deduction.
He really is a womanizer, Puncher. He's canonically a womanizer. Like a different supermodel/socialite every weekend type of womanizer.
It was a very mild and accurate comment.

A canonical, weirdly racist womanizer. All kids of squick.

I don't think anyone had any trouble understanding that it was just your preference and not backed by analysis. It was you saying that, in addition to the fact that you want a female AI, you think all AI should be female. Then you said that it was because most engineers are male, which comes off as trying to back up your preference as actually more valid than the alternative because you consider it more likely, based on real world statistics.
Anyway, I kind of want a male AI for close to the same reason that you want a female one. ![]()
I understand the Illusive Man is a womanizer. Do you understand that the Illusive Man being a womanizer and making EDI female does not mean he made EDI female because he's a womanizer? And understand that even if the Illusive Man did, it's really entirely irrelvevant to the roundabout accusation the poster was making that the reason I prefer AIs to be female is basically because I think women are objects?
Have people requested relationships with aliens of Andromeda life?
A canonical, weirdly racist womanizer. All kids of squick.
And yet, for some reason, consumed alien wine.
I swear, I never wanted Shepard to punch him in the face more than when he said, "Bring me a bottle of Thessia Red."
I was like, "You smug, (expletive) Bastard."

But he wasn't making that accusation.
