I do wish Steve and Samantha had shown up earlier because I loved both of their characters and would have made a Shepard for them.

I can't entirely relate, since I didn't play the series until much later than many on the BSN. However, I do get why you feel that way. I think we've both talked about this before, but it seems like someone like Jack (who has much more abrasive qualities than most lady companions LIs up until Sera) was made a straight romance to prevent the "butch" stereotype. Like, "Yeah, she's a badass that can help take down entire prisons. She takes no crap....but in her heart, she really wants a man to love. Don't worry, despite how she looks and acts, she's not into the ladies. It's something new and different."
So because of her look and attitude she's supposed to want a woman??
Kaidan is just dull. He's possibly the most vanilla male romance Bioware has ever done. He's like Jacob - just some dude - except without the cringe worthy romance dialog to make him memorable.
That's why I love Kaidan, he's laid back and sincere but he also has his own thing going on and is an accomplished soldier and biotic. He's not flashy, doesn't need to have sex with everything that isn't nailed down, and doesn't have a million witty one liners tucked away. After a while that can get boring. But as much as I enjoyed my romance with Kaidan, I wouldn't mind a clever dark type or a rough soldier (without the brofist bs_. Perhaps a renegade nerd like Mordin in ME2.

Wow. I am surprised that there are people who actually get Kaidan Alenko and like him for it. I've always liked him.
As for romances, I wish Bioware would go the route of Mass Effect 1 romances. In ME1, there are no special quests or what have you, it just naturally develops. The love interests can even initiate flirting with Shepard or express some form of interest. In ME1, the romances were just icing on the cake.
DAI, for example, made the romances too unnecessarily over the top and turned it into a "you do a quest or two for me, get me stuff and I will bang you" type of affair. Plus the potential love interest do not express interest in the Inquisitor either, its as if they had no romantic inclinations until the Inquisitor flirted with them. It felt very artificial.
Stick with keeping it simple.

I do not at all agree that the same amount of resources should be spent on a segment which comprises <10% of players and a segment which comprises >50%.
It's not just gay gamers who pla they same sex romance options, ever heard of slash fangirls? Also plenty of straight male gamers play the lesbian romances.
Just give me a male human romance option and I will be alright. BioWare please...please do not make Drack (the krogan) a romance at all!

Seeing as there was an apparent naked krogan in that video they released last year, the R34 render artists would have a field day if they extracted a naked krogan model.
Actually, wait there is a naked krogan model for XNALara. Someone put a skin on the naked krogan statue model (it's built like a Ken doll, but still) and then someone exported it to Source Filmmaker and reskinned it to be Wrex.
If there was a krogan romance there will probably be an explosion of renders and art. Before ME3 Garrus was the most popular male pairing for MShep in fanfiction but the game came out it switched to Kaidan so it's likely that a krogan romance will cause more people to take an interest in krogan romance art
But I just felt it was awkward that Iron Bull was bi, though I must admit that I didn't go down that road so am not an expert on the subject, and just didn't fit the character (He made me feel like I was watching Kevin Spacey in House of Cards, who's bi/gay relations I'm not convinced of).
If they can add characters like Dorian whose sexual orientation fits perfectly with who they are, rather than who people want them to be, then I'll gladly accept 50 bi's, 70 gays and 3 straights. However with the way Bioware has added them in over several games, I'm just not convinced they'll pull it off.
Of course because Bull is a muscular warrior and isn't a flaming queen that means he can't possibly be interested in other men, rolls eyes
