That post makes it sound far creepier than it actually is. I actually found the scene kinda touching.

I apologize for that since I know some people do like that scene it just gave a weird vibe to me that I did not like. Though I do understand why other people enjoy it. It's just not for me.

This probably isn't fair, but I think I would have been much more okay with that scene if she was a Bi option. Considering she says that she has been with women in the past, but she's just not in the mood for that kind of flavor right now, it really came off as "only a penis can cure me" to me, and less, "I need someone to love me and hold me when I'm vulnerable." Or whatever they were actually going for.

I think regardless of what gender Shepard is who is romancing her I think that scene would have still put me off though that's just me.

Yeah the final scene I believe it was she was crying while they kissed and while he was getting on top of her. Just gave me weird vibes and I couldn't do the romance again.

Lol her romance sounds effed up. I've never done it before because I find ME2 Jack repelent to the point that I headcanon Shepard kicking her off the ship, but now I'm curious and might give her romance a go. Besides, now that I've given Jacob a chance, I've done five out of the six so I might as well put a bow on it.

Well I admit I'm bias since I don't like that scene so I may be painting it as more uncomfortable than what it is for a lot of other people but for me personally yeah that scene was messed up enough for me to delete my Jack run.

May as well post the romance since everyone's talking about it.

Give me a space greek tragedy or something like:

Happy romance at start, then it derails into crazy where your lover will betray you. Tie you down, burn down your house/ship, then proceed to shoot you. If you didn't realize that you should've ended it by ending your lover before he/she ends you: It's game over, reload.

Love is a meaningful thing. I see absolutely no problem with it 'solving' problems.

This sounds to me like a rather silly extension of the notion that a woman doesn't 'need' a man.

I notice that nobody is making complaints about Lair of the Shadow Broker, even though effectively the same thing is happening.

Liara's romance sure got the advantage with Lair of the Shadow Broker. You almost literally get fireworks in the background with a passionate kiss after killing the boss.

More than any of the others, I feel an incredibly crucial part of Jack's romance is the continuation in ME3 even though the ME2 squaddies in general got kinda shafted in terms of content there. The time jump + her clearly having worked through a lot of her anger issues among other things (completely independently from Shepard) during that time really makes it work once they reunite. They end up being more on equal footing.

its hard to write a bi character and most people go off there own experiences, not saying its universally true but the few people i know who are openly bi actually fit that stereotype, I have actually asked and all 3 say the same thing "feels good why do i care" go off what you know i guess

But it isn't just make them acknowledge interest in men and women. And there are just as many Bi people who aren't. My fiance, one of my best friends, and another friend I know are all Bi (2 girls and a guy) and all 3 are really sweet great people in committed relationships. Just saying portraying a type of person, especially a sexuality, as one thing is bad.

I don't think it's especially hard to write bi characters.

It is not easy to write good characters because you have to strike a balance between being unique and being a stereotype people can understand and/or identify with. And you have to do that with limited lines and screen time.

From my experience, people are people, no matter what their gender or sexuality may be. Some are hilariously awkward when flirting, some are very direct, some are suave... but that has nothing to do with their sexuality.

I don't see why a character needs to be treated differently because they are bi. It is not like their personality changes because of it.

She also cries like a little baby after the broker is killed.

You pretty much just fixed her with your penis. But the rest of the romance was fantastic, I thought.

Gahh ... I dunno, crying during sex.. not really my thing. Like, I'd have to stop lol "What's wrong, sweetie?" Not just like... okay you do that but I'm gonna do my thang lol

If I remember correctly, they don't have sex in that scene, Shep just holds her close while she cries.

Same here I'd think I would put a break on all things and be asking if they were okay needed a cider or a cuddle or a pizza or something if I found myself in that kind of situation.

Oh okay, aww that's different then :)

My thing with characters like Jack, Sera, and Merrill is that they seem so young I have a hard time romancing them. Well, Jack is m/f only so I never got the chance, but yeah... it's probably b/c I'm so old lol feels pervy and wrong, especially since they seem to have emotional burdens (esp. Jack and maybe Sera) and kinda look to the lover as a mentor type

If that's the case I interpreted it very differently, to me it came off as they still had sex while she was sobbing. Just how I remember it coming off to me though.

::shrug::

I thought that she'd stopped crying by the time they were on the bed. There was a sense of time passing between when he was holding her and when they were laying down together.

Thane cried in his scene to. I could see where someone could read negative implications into this, or just find it unromantic, but I don't think there was a lot of subtext outside of Jack fearing emotional attachment.

It actually helps a bit that there's an alternate route to a sex scene with Jack that is...extremely uncomfortable for me to watch. It's not depicted in a romantic or particularly sexy way. It's more like a wrestling match, with an angry undercurrent. I think that help subvert the "cured by penis" concept a little. She opens up to affection and understanding more than she does to the sex itself.

Well, if time passed it wasn't long enough for her to wipe the tear streaked mascara from her face.

True, though I could point out how long it takes to wipe away makeup that dark and heavy even with good eye makeup remover and a cotton square. If all you have is your hand you'll just be smearing it into blotches.  :P

I really do see your point. I can see some aspects they could have done better, and I agree with you that Jack's story would have made just as much sense if she were bisexual. I just see a little more sweetness in this story than I see flaws.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love her romance. It might be my favorite video game romance, I just thought this scene came across the wrong way. I think the intent of that scene was sweet and romantic.

Honestly, my biggest issue with her romance is that I'll never get to play through it because she's straight only. Which sucks, because she's pretty much my perfect LI. Her or a human female Iron Bull. I'm always missing it by one degree...

I just hope with LI situation that there is still room to see a lot of the character's character still even if you don't romance them, like I wouldn't be too thrilled to see another Solas situation with the Dalish tattoos. Sorry for randomly bringing it up, just playing another game where something like that happens and its a serious character moment that you can't see if you can't romance them which really bugs me. I mean I understand that some things you share with your loved ones only I get that but sometimes the huge stuff or lore affecting stuff I would really like to see regardless if you are with the character romantically or not.

If you're a DA fan, you should come check out the gay KISA thread.  KISA means Knight In Shining Armor.  It's an archetype request thread.  Kaidan has been listed an example, despite the fact he isn't a traditional warrior class.  We're always looking for more people to join the conversation there.   :D
