Me, as a player: Um, the last time I saw you, you were at Zhu's Hope helping the brainwashed people.  Maybe after an hour or so after I watched a giant plant spit copies of you to attack me with.  And now you're green.  I'm glad you're willing to help, but please stop touching me.  I'm not into Asari and you've been Indoctrinated by Soverign and brainwashed/enveloped by the thorian.  You full of so many red flags that I think I'm going blind.  Don't make me go for a Renegade interrupt and grab my gun, ya crazy broad.

Player character's reaction to intimacy that doesn't deny player (or character really) agency has always been something they've struggled with a bit. It'd be nice if there was an awkward leap back interrupt but I guess it's more realistic to not have those scenes.

That said, Shiala can rub her face in my Shep's personal space any time.

I don't know if we would be using the metric system across the board by 2183

We better be.

If they ever put up a bust of Shepard in some kind of monument in the Citadel, one of the cheeks would be worn down by asari that caress it as they pass by.

I thought she was going to kiss me the first time I played.  My second game was slightly worse, because my character wasn't really into anyone in ME1.  I had her headcanoned to where it was going to take someone very special for her to consider romance in her current position.  "No time for love Dr. Jones!"  I ended up going for the Garrus romance in ME2, but for that character, it was very off-putting.

She was a colonist and a sole survivor to boot, which means unlike a spacer, she's lost pretty much everyone she cares about minus Kaidan (who she considered a dear friend.)  She was not in the mood to be touched, much less have an Asari who's a total stranger in kissing distance.  I don't know if we would be using the metric system across the board by 2183, but I know that the 18" of personal space is there for a reason.  <_<

What's worse is that the typically "**** off and die" bottom-right renegade options leads to sex. That's the ultimate bad touch option.

To me that's a moment every one of my Shepard's pulls out the ol' pistol and breaks the patented Menacing Glare ™.

There is Zevran and Anders if you want a blonde, so its not unfair.

Wasn't aware Shepard could romance Zevran or Anders.

See this is why EA needs to make a romance version of Super Smash Brothers.

Kahlee Sanders would have been the perfect LI for those looking for blondes. Stick it to Anderson. He wouldn't even talk to you in the final scene.

Shepard: Anderson?

Anderson: [groans]

Shepard: Oh for….still with this?

Anderson: [keels over]

Shepard: Looks like I win again.

Evil. Getting people's hopes up like that.

Wouldn't tell them that she's open to voicing videogames either, what with her reprising her role in Telltale's GoT series and all.

Ooooops.

I'm kinda hoping, if we have an asari squadmate (which I'm sure we will), that they will be a little like Shiala. For a character that had such little screen time I really liked her, aside from the face touching that is.

Well, Liara was a Maidan and Samara was a Matriarch, so we still need a Matron which Shiala was.

Sorry for the OT, but every time I hear "Bad Touch," I think of this:

If anyone is offended by the video, try to remember that it is just a joke.

I'm offended. Now I know that song has an actual name, and it's stuck in my head.

Haha, well you weren't offended by the video.  The song is an Ear Worm though, and I mostly apologize for that.   :P

I don't think I've met someone who adores Asari as much as you do. :P

Well, in another thread someone said lack of asari LI would be dealbreaker for him/her.

Assuming that those of us who enjoy romance stories, and chatting about romance stories, are automatically relying on them as a form of wish fulfillment because we don't have functional real life relationships is silly. It's as silly as saying that a horror genre fan is inherently violent.

It's silly, inane pseudo psychology.

Okay, you have taken what i have said and twisted it,you accuse me of assumption,is that also not what you are doing? You have put words into my mouth i never said all people are guilty of this you did. This article sums up the way i feel about this topic and i recommend you read it.

You hear the way Liara will absolutely gush over Shepard if you let her do the entry in the time capsule?  "Without peer, the best of the best" ect ect.  I think Liara would unhesitatingly call Shepard her hero/idol.  Tali just doesn't leave that impression on me as a friend.  Whereas Liara does, and it's even worse if you romance her.

Yeah, the entire Liara romance sends up so many red flags to me. Really, it was ME2 that solidified it - between her reasoning of recovering Shepard's body being 'I couldn't let you go' regardless of romance status, and then in LotSB, seeing she'd enshrined Shepard's armor in her apartment and put it on display in her living room... Yeah, that crossed a LOT of my lines. She seems more like a schoolgirl with a crush than an adult in a relationship between two equals to me. And it really paints Liara's post meld fainting spells in ME1 in a bad light (and, on the subject of the meld, GOD how I hate that it's plot mandated, you have NO idea...).

On the whole, the asari seem very inclined to physical touching, and it REALLY puts me off. I don't like strangers touching me, so, of course, one of the first interactions available to Shepard with an asari is with the Consort who has NO concept of personal space, which seems ridiculous, given her role AS Consort. I seriously get the feeling the programmers and the vocal directors were not on the same page in that scene, given the way that Sha'ira's voice remains conversational while she comes in close to Shepard's ear.

Now I'm glad that Shiala has never made it to ME2 in my games. I really hate how Asari (and the writers) assume everyone want to sleep with them. I'm still not over the Consort ninjamancing me so hard. And while I liked Liara at first, the more times I play, the less I like her. I'm very close to dropping her has my personal canon FemShep LI.

Anyway, all this talk of Asari nonsense just makes sad about how amazing, yet under utilized Samara was.

If you're a gay mShep or straight fShep, romance wasn't all too fair. The games really seemed to cater to straight mShep and lesbian fShep. (Or bisexual Shep of either gender.)

To avoid what happened with DA:I - which caused massive upset regarding the sudden shift of romance options - maybe romance can just be equally divvied up? Seems like, at the end of the day, that's what everyone would agree on. Well, almost everyone. I know there are people out there who would rather romances just play out in whatever capacity for the sake of the story. I respect that.

But in the end, more will agree that it kinda sucks when options are limited for certain heroes of certain orientations/genders.

The problem with it - IMHO - isn't any equality thing, the problem is that often enough the most interesting characters (who those are of course depends on the individual gamer!) often enough aren't available to your character (either because you can't romance them at all (like Varric and Aveline in Dragon Age 2) or because only a certain orientation can (and some people - including me, sadly, as I try to be as open minded as possible - can't play (male!) gays for example) romance them (like Dorian in DA:I)...which is quite bad if you aren't that interested in other characters (none of the straight (male!) options in DA:I were interesting for me, especially considering I almost only play mages and would like to romance another mage (going with Cassandra seems like a betrayal - at least if you are a friend of the idea of mages being free, because as a seeker she's more or less your natural adversary though - SPOILER!!! - that changes during the game), which I can't (Vivienne isn't possible, Solas only likes other elves (if they are female) etc. etc. :(

greetings LAX

Samara was amazing. That quality of dignity and grace.

The only negative feeling I have about it, and it's a very mildly negative one, is that I sometimes envy that the PC can't really display something similar.

I know that would mean they assume a little too much about the PC's personality, so I don't feel overly resentful about it, but one of the reasons DA2 had my favorite player character voice acting is that I think both Wyatt and Boulton have this understated dignity to their delivery.

And I think it will probably stay that way. It's a part of the lore that there's almost no light blonde hair left, and even Kahlee's dark blonde is rare.

Personally, I think more people would be dying their hair a wide variety of different colors in a civilization like this.

MEA should be the first bioware game where we can make our hair magenta, if we please.
