I'm all for developing a hermaphrodite pansexual genderfluid species just for the sake of fair romance companions.

Would you count as romance where sex isn't mandatory or you can choose when have it as option? So your character could be demi/ace or at least headcanoned as such like it has been with some LI's in DA games (not sure about ME). Or do you want LIs who are also demi or ace?

Personally, I could be satisfied if I was able to label my player character as explicitly asexual or demisexual (oh my god, that'd be just... wow), but in a perfect world, I'd much rather have an actual, canon, establish ace or demi character as an LI.

(This is actually the main reason I want a Salarian LI. It's already canon they're an asexual species (except, creepily, for asari) so all the work is done there.)

I've done headcanoning in the past and, while it's nice, it's still just all in my head. Also, that headcanon can so easily be later smashed. Also, there's generally this later sort of tone that gets used. It rarely fits what I'd want. (My main Hawke is asexual, and it's all thanks to Anders's romance scene that I can visualize that.)

But, I get that the people who'd be interested in this kind of romance are the far minority, so, yeah. Let me define my character, and I'd be happy.

While Kaidan is by far my personal favorite romance in a Bioware game, I find it hard to say that he's the best male male romance option. The fact remains that you really do need to headcanon most of the story to make that romance as good as it is. It was clearly not the developers intention to create an angst-filled, emotional, three-game gay male romance story arc. It happened by accident and through fans being able to make it happen in their own heads. I'd like to see them plan something like that from the beginning instead falling into it accidentally because they're trying to make up for the places where they messed up earlier in the series .

Let's not forget to give the true credit to where it is due. Raphael Sparge worked those scenes. From the ambiguously romantic ones to the full on "I love you's" He sold the underpinned tension through and through.

Don't you technically have options in terms of sex (and maybe gender)? Your complaint, as discussed in your thread is more about when people develop those feelings, which is a whole separate issue.

Don't conflate the two, because that's what causes people to not take demisexuality seriously.

No, there are no options for sex in the ME games. You either have it or the romance is off. Or am I misunderstanding you?

I would count that as good for the protagonist, yes. Though I'd like a romance who is actually those orientations as well. That wasn't possible in ME or even DA until DAI since for those romances in order for it to continue, sex was a mandatory part.

I meant sex in terms of the biological male/female reproductive organ type (and by putting gender in parenthesis, I'm refering to where said male or female person falls along the masculine/feminine identity scale).

Re: Kaidan and MShep. It's bad enough I have to wait 18 months for the MEA. Please don't make me wait an additional 5+ years for my PC and his man to finally be together. If you want sexual/romantic tension that's builds over the course of a trilogy it should be an additional option to the fully fledged m/m romance(s). It could be like how a straight MShep had Liara and Ashley to choose from but could also start to build a  relationship with Tali. If Tali or Garrus had content in ME1 that explicitly demonstrated a growing attraction but it was never fully explored until ME2, that would have been kinda perfect.

THIS.

I made up a long LONG post on Tumblr about a year back that spoke to just how, while I love MShenko, it's more due to what I've headcanoned into place than what exists in game. The part that KILLS me, though, is the fact that there's not even a dialogue option at the lock-in for Shepard to possibly say that he was interested in Kaidan since ME1, and the way the lines are written and delivered make it sound like Shepard is considering a romance with Kaidan for the first time there in that scene, despite my SCREAMING at the screen 'YES I AM FLIRTING WITH YOU, YOU BACON-LOVING IDIOT!' when Kaidan asks if Shepard's flirting with him in Huerta. Not to mention the way Citadel makes nothing really better in terms of content-

And I'm ranting again. Sorry.

Anyway, yes, I want to see a full, ongoing, always there romance, rather than a case of 'you get nothing in 1, you get nothing in 2, here, have something in 3, fill in the pieces yourself!' I can make headcanons, that's not my problem. I live in headcanon spaces. It's the being ignored for two out of three games that gets under my skin.

It could be worse...

You could have romanced Steve. He's a great guy (I'm sure dave knows my love for the man), but he just doesn't get the presence needed to be a full romance (same with Sam I know, I mean not even a date on Citadel? But doesn't she have the chess match though?)

Anyway, in that regard, I would have preferred Vega immensely. Mostly because he was so bromantic that it was funny, and also because of the whole tragic hero/dark mirror of Shepard thing going on.

Alright. I think it could be good to make some if not all romances so that sex scenes are optional in the romances. Shouldn't be too hard to implement :)

Demi/asexual LI would be nice to have for folks too, but I don't know if they would need same numbers than other romances if you can already romance some other characters without having sex or sex right away.

I would count that as good for the protagonist, yes. Though I'd like a romance who is actually those orientations as well. That wasn't possible in ME or even DA until DAI since for those romances in order for it to continue, sex was a mandatory part.

I think I have heard that you can romance Zevran without having sex with him at all ^^ Haven't tried it myself though.

But yep it would be nice if there was option to not have sex. Maybe more choice for the player in romances overall would be nice add.

One painfully awkward the next day one night stand constitutes a " romance"?

If that comparison is supposed to make Vega not sexy, it doesn't work. EDI is hot too. In fact my three favourite squadmembers are Kaidan, James and EDI and they are all hot. EDI brings out the 10% of me that is straight.

There's a lot more to it with all the flirting but I used inverted commas for a reason.

I agree, I don't think Mshep/Kaidan is perfect, it's totally unintentional on BW's part and I agree that it sucks that we don't have the option to let Kaidan know Shep was always interested.  But it's still better than romancing Steve Cortez.   If BW ever wanted to create a trilogy love story where the pair gets together in the 3rd game I wouldn't be averse to it if we're also given more LI content (dialogue & interactions) with the LI to play with to make up for it not being a full romance like the others.

And Mr. James dudebro neck muscles Vega is not sexy.
