So you're okay with female characters being more active in pursuing a relationship with a male or female PC. The male characters, however, need to be completely passive with both women and men or active with women and passive with men?
So... Can Romance Be A Little More Fair This Time?

I was happy with the Asari option for my male and female characters in all the ME's. And really, the romance in DA:I sucked (except Cassandra). Did they intentionally make them unattractive???

It's the stache by itself that I don't like. He's already 90% there, you might as well give him the goatee and call it a day...

*for anyone who doesn't know, this is the Master of the Mystic Arts, the Sorceror Supreme, Doctor Strange!

I hate to say it, but I think people should just suck it up and deal with it when it comes to getting hit on by male characters. Yes, Kaidan flirts with you when he's in the hospital without you indicating that you are interested. But that happens with female characters too. It's not the end of the world. Kaidan says, "Are you hitting on me?". You don't choose the "yes" option. Done. Not a problem.
Basically, I don't see why people should have a guarantee that they aren't going to be hit on by people of the same sex. If you aren't interested, don't express interest. In that case, it's one line and you move on.
Exactly. As a gay guy playing a gay Shepard, I had to deal with the unwanted flirtation from the following women for two and a half games until I could finally have Kaidan and shut it down: Ashley, Liara, Sha'ira, Shiala, Gianna Parasini (I admit this one is my fault for getting a beer with her), Miranda, Jack, Tali, and Kelly Chambers. With the exception of Sha'ira the consort, none of this flirtation made me dislike the characters (Sha'ira doesn't seem to understand the concept of personal space for someone she has met literally ten seconds ago).
And yet there are guys on here who are wary of the idea of gay male love interests existing in the game at all because they are afraid of a video game character hitting on them. Weaksauce.

Part of it might just be Anders flashbacks.
Giving him the "Sorry bro I'm just not into bros" response triggered a temper tantrum.
I liked the way Mass Effect 3 handled it with Cortez. He tests the waters but doesn't flip out if he gets turned down, and doesn't let it affect his friendship with Shepard.

Is it wrong that I killed Anders just because it would finally shut him up about complaining over every little god damn thing?

Is it wrong of me to feel a teensy bit of schadenfreude when men get twisted over some guy hitting on them?

Female Hawke got similar treatment - was it handled differently for males?

I'm not sure but I assume in that case that it plays out the same. I've only had one complete playthrough of DA2, with a male Hawke.

He's in a better place now.
Specifically, he's in a place where he can't annoy me.

As I recall it does play out pretty much the same for both female and male Hawke. The complaint is mostly that he gets kind of pissy about it and loses approval if you reject him.
As a straight guy I'm amused by most homophobia in general. The reaction is basically saying "Oh no, another human being finds me attractive!".

Anders reveals his relationship to Karl if you're male Hawke, asks if it bothers you, and your options are to be homophobic to him, flirt with him, or say you've "never considered" which Anders responds to the same way as if you're flirting.
Obviously, it's not a popular scene for people who don't plan on romancing Anders. It probably wouldn't be such a controversial thing if you could reject him without saying "Yes, it bothers me that you were a male with a male."

I've said this before, but I like that you got rivalry points for rejecting him. I showed that he put himself out there, was vulnerable, and got hurt when you said no. Just like a real person might, especially if that real person is as sensitive to criticism/rejection as Anders was. It made him feel like a more fully fleshed out person. Why is that a bad thing?

I guess it does fit with his personality of complaining about everything.

Then if he can feel stung by a rejection, the player can feel stung by his tantrum.

I find its interesting that when I choose to flirt and have a relationship with him, he was all angst about "I'm too dangerous and you deserve a better man than me". But when my Hawke is happy with Fenris, he was all "Why did you choose him over me, I could make you happier" even when I never flirted with him.... ... I was like "MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!!"
although I still like that love triangle playthrough...

Never romanced Anders, and have never regretted it either. His writing was terrible.
