I was happy with the Asari option for my male and female characters in all the ME's. And really, the romance in DA:I sucked (except Cassandra). Did they intentionally make them unattractive???
Meh

I've said this before, but I like that you got rivalry points for rejecting him. I showed that he put himself out there, was vulnerable, and got hurt when you said no. Just like a real person might, especially if that real person is as sensitive to criticism/rejection as Anders was. It made him feel like a more fully fleshed out person. Why is that a bad thing?
Can't speak for anyone else but I would have liked to have an option to turn him down more easily than I did, maybe its because I don't really enjoy upsetting others but the way Hawke turns down Anders felt a bit to harsh to me. Though I suppose that is a different issue than him chalking up a little bit of rivalry points from him.

I will agree that the rejection was pretty harsh. I winced a little when I first heard it.
I mean, heaven forbid he felt stung by a rejection, right?
It is a childish reaction and one that deserves some criticism.
No one likes to be rejected, but if someone turns you down there is no reason to be angry or to get aggressive in response.
Except it was hardly a tantrum.
BSN capacity for hyberbole. Kaidan makes an offhand about headaches and tells you his story, upon being asked, and he's an incessant whiner. Ashley has some trouble trusting an alien species that we were recently at war with--go figure--and she's a disgusting racist, never mind that she'll reconsider her perspective at a word from the protagonist. It never surprises me when a character's reaction is described as being more dramatic than it actually was.
That said, I think Anders was a bit off. I wish that wasn't such a prominent example in these discussions. It makes sense that it is, but I still wish that it wasn't.
Don't forget her dreamy, vague expression of spirituality which also marks her as an extreme, extreme Jesus freak.
Friendship/Rivalry was one of my favorite things from DA2, and it had a lot of promise. I wish it had been improved - and I can't help but feel that everyone freaking out about Anders, and conflating Rivalry with "disapproval," is why the whole thing was just scrapped.

The fact that basically her entire career suffered from an attack done by aliens that basically umiliated her grandfather and even generations after still taunt her name can't have colored her opinion a bit?
And the fact that aliens dictate basically where humans can go, but at the same time don't move one finger to help because they are where they shouldn't? (when the Council itself have given the ok to go toward the terminus systems, because they are too lazy to colonizy that space themselves)
Shepard can be an ex anti-alien outlaw, or having lost her/his entire family thanks to Batarian slavers. Aliens aren't all good. And many look (at least in ME1) at humans as if they are lessen creatures, if not merely children. Tensions are still there, and relevant in ME1, even if after for no motive at all, BioWare dropped the ball.
I find Ashley point of view more believable than, say, Kelly's "I love everything that moves". Is more human, and is good seeing her grow, like Priesly in the diares found in the DLC in ME2.
Her position is the one of many humans, what it was bad from BioWare was abandoning and not letting it be clear, that humans are victims of racism, the single thing that really differentiated ME from others Shi-fi. The drop of having the humans at the centre of the Galaxy.
Sadly, ME dropped soon the subject, to go again in the usual "humans are special and oh so important for the galaxy" thrope, and so every character that was wary of aliens, automatically became a "stinky racist" because it wasn't clear anymore that that waryness wasn't without foundations.

This. Rivalry points weren't "bad" or "disapproval." It was just a different way for your relationship with a companion to develop. And it was such a better and more dynamic system that "I like you" or "I don't like you" and I'm still so freaking disappointed they abandoned it in DAI. Although I'm generally frustrated with the non-romance dynamic you have (or lack thereof) with almost every companion in DAI. They're great character's but the protagonist's relationships with most of them felt so cold and clinical compared to DA2.

I actually think that it's incredibly in character for Anders. He's emotional and petty. He's exactly the type of guy who would get upset and lash out if rejected. Seems like consistent writing for the character that Anders was in DA2.
I have more of an issue with the way that the Hawke rejection line was given. It was difficult (not impossible) to get through that conversation without sounding like a jerk or hitting on Anders. But Anders' reaction to rejection? Par for the course with Anders.

the only thing that pissed me off about Ash , is that she was taking her hatred on alien . It was humans who wouldn't let her advance in her career and give her the worst job ever as if she wasnt trust worthy . Yet she remainined blindly a follower of the alliance and use the Aliens as her punching bag . Not once I heard her complain about those who really are the one who are black listing her name....unless I'm missing something here .
