Their personal quests are fine, and it was the first game Bioware had such expansive quests. It was a landmark moment. I'm talking about their actual companion dialogue, or lack thereof. With Jack, absent a romance, she just starts telling you to **** off after her personal quest. That's it.

Oh, now I understand what you mean. Yeah, there was nothing on the level of the conversations your could have with your companions at Camp in Dragon Age Origins. Even Garrus was pretty light.

Well maybe they'll be easy to avoid? I still haven't been able to trigger anything with other couples in DAI and I missed Garrus and Tali thing the first three times I played the game. So if you don't want it you can avoid triggering it?

I doubt it. If anything, the overall positive reception means Bioware will make it more obvious.

What made the universe so interesting other than the races and characters?

If characters were the only thing the universe had to offer, that would be bad, but I don't think it's true. There's the quest for finding humanity a place in the galaxy as a newcomer. There are the alien races (races aren`t characters) and their politics. There are struggles and conflicts like the Genophage, the Quarian/Geth conflict, human expansion and Batarian resistance to it. There is space exploration, visiting known star cluster, exploring pristine planets as well as developed colonies and learn more about these places. There are mysteries to unravel, the thorian creature, the Leviathan, the Prothean empire and of course the Reapers. There is so much more the universe has (or had) to offer and this is what made the games for me.

I was responding to that person saying they lost interest simply because there won't be Shepard or the familiar characters. So I was using a hypothetical where everything else was the same.

True, the races have some interesting history, but ultimately they would be boring without the characters we interacted with. The Elcor wouldn't be interesting without the Elcor ambassador or the jerk with a cigar on Omega. The Quarians wouldn't be interesting without Tali or Xen. The Krogan wouldn't be interesting without Wrex, Uvenk, or that bomb maker. The Asari wouldn't be interesting without Liara and Aria. The Turians wouldn't be that interesting without Garrus and the Turian Counselor. The Salarians wouldn't bet interesting without Kirahee and Mordin. Would you care about the Genophage if not for Wrex? Would you care about the Quarians if not for Tali? Would you be interested in anything but wiping out the Geth if not for Legion?

What is Feros without the Thorian, Jong, or Shiala? What is Noveria without Anoleis, Parassini, or the Rachnii Queen? Those places wouldn't be interesting as mere Codex entries.

The characters keep the races from just being groups of people that did something at some point in history. They make that history matter.

I did like the exploring planets, but I wish there was more to find. Little landmarks that told me something about the planet, not a crashed satellite that had random pieces of gear. I thought they were too big for how little there was on them. That said, I agree that flying around exploring the galaxy was cool in theory. We barely touched on the Prothean Empire, which was a huge mistake given their importance to Humanity and galactic society. That should have been a bigger part of ME2. After all, the Prothean beacon visions and the Cypher were what made Shepard unique. That was scrapped in ME2 in favor of "he's an icon" which was never realized in the plot.

While I actually did like the investigative nature of the DLC, Leviathan was a late and weak explanation for Reaper origins.

seeing as with all bioware games romance is entirely optional and not something that you are required to take part it. you can infact play all three mass effect and dragon age games with out going threw a single romance story. so the way I see it your argument is invalid as you are already given the choice to no romance anyone in MEA. but removing it so players that want to have a romance just because you don't like it thats just selfish and stupid over a optional feature

And that would make sense if it actually addressed an argument that I had made. I love that people keep putting words in my mouth and then criticizing the words that they put in my mouth. Must be something in the water that we don't have where I live.

Hates having to drink it, hates the feel of it, hates rain, stuff like that.

Even got a mini rant out of them about water once before quite amusing.

That sounds like Anakin Skywalker's whole thing against sand. It's coarse and gets in everything.

They are a rather strange person when they dislike something it's all the way same with liking something no middle ground for them. Water just happens to be on the dislike side for them.

Not sure what the sand thing is about though must have not seen that movie I guess^^;

It's part of what is quite possibly the worst pickup line in the entire universe.

Ah that would explain why I didn't know it. I think I stopped after Phantom Menace or whatever the first one after the trilogy I grew up with was called.

Okay now I'm rather curious how hating sand can be formed into a pick up line.

He tries to make it a metaphor, implying that the sand represents the life he hated and left behind. While she represents everything he wants.

The line is delivered as most of Hayden Christiansen's lines are: with a certain petulance.

Really it's his lead in to touching Natalie Portman, I mean Padme.

Considering all of the Bioware old guard left, I would say getting rid of romances would be a huge mistake.  They must rely on their inherent strengths now, which is characters.  Not plot or overarching story.

Oh, I have a tremendous capacity to hate things. I sort of think of it as my raison d'être. That having been said, I have no idea how we ended up on the topic of hating water.
