I think the barely legal teens are on another site. I wouldn't expect them to be high ranking diplomats or leaders either. :P

The Inquision LI's were okay in their Context as Leaders, but I, as a straight Guy (yeah, sorry for bringing that up) at nearly twenty Years old, would like to have at least one Love Interest that isn't more than ten Years older than myself. But I expressed that Opinion elsewhere in more Detail.

On the other hand, when you're in your mid thirties, 18 year olds are just children to you. There are some exceptions but they genuinely feel too young.

I guess People just prefer People around their own Age. So they should provide Love Interests of any Span of Ages. They generally did a fine Job with that, DA:I only was a smaller Slip-Up in that Regard, as the only younger LI was lesbian (which I'm pretty sure annoyed some "older" - yes I know thirties isn't exactly old - Players of that Orientation, too).

Dunno how old Josephine is but considering the fact that she still had to get married I doubt she was any older than 30. The way she looks and acts I'd estimate her age to be 25 at most.

They should do something entirely different. Romance is a tired gimmick.

Yeah, you can interpret her either Way. After playing her Romance and such, I would interpret her to be in her later Twenties. But that's another Discussion.

I think you should type your age in somewhere and the game will adjust the characters to your age.

That makes no sense.

So I type in 18 and the game adjust and every general, lord, king, veteran, mercenary, thief, ambassador and whatever else I bump into is <20? Yeah good luck writing those characters. :P

OP: Yeah I really want a boring shooter fest that brings nothing to the table but pew pew!

Lucky you, because that should be really easy to find.

The girls that were romantic choices in Dragon Age Inquisition were.......too old

You know, that's exactly what I had hoped for back when this started. I said to myself:

Their older games didn't have romances, like Baldur's Gate 1.

So you're going back 17 years for your example?

That wouldn't be a waste of thousands of developer hours of re-skinning animation and writing/recording backstories and dialogue.

Every good movie has a romance. Romance is a must. Preferably something dramatic.

Really? I presume the last scene between Jurors 8 and 9 in Twelve Angry Men hinted at unrequited love?

You did open a Threat pertaining to Romances. This is not the first Time it has happened - even in this Thread. Your Dream has already come true several Times.

Well, I didn't see it as a genuine threat, really...

The emergence of the romance with Bastila in KOTOR was one of the most immersive and rewarding stories I've ever experienced in an RPG. It was all the more effective because it was surprising; I had never played a game that allowed something like that before.

Yes, mechanics can be contrived and unbelievable. Gifts in DA:O are a great example of that. But you will never convince me that an RPG is better without romance options than with. You are wrong.

So Neverwinter Nights is better than Fallout New Vegas because you can romance the clumsy elf cleric?

You know I'm not going to lie, romances and the ability to form close bonds with crew mates and party members is the sole purpose I play BW games, no other developer does this on the level of BW. Personally, BW games never had exciting stories that enthralled me, it was always about their characters for me. Characters are BW's strong suit and that's why ME2 was such a big hit. By it focusing primarily on the characters, it was dub the #1 PC game out of a 100 of the best PC games of all time in PC gamer magazine. If BW takes away the ability to bond with party members, then for me there's no reason to play their games because their main stories within their games are usually sub-par and not interesting. Why go to BW for a purely story driven game when there's other names out there that are so much better.

People who want romance in are the same idiots who want the toggle helmet on/ off button.

To be fair, romances are only a fraction of the character development in Mass Effect and in my opinion they're the weakest part of it because BioWare seemed to have a hard time writing good romance story arcs(or just didn't put enough resources into it). Most of them are simply: Talk 2 or 3 times, bang in the commander's quarters, wait till next game to repeat process.

Admittedly I think Inquisition did a good job with the ones that I have seen, at least.

As of Mass Effect 3, I'd say I'm also going to BW for solid third person shooting combat with abilities mixed in as well since that game did that very well.

You'd have to be blind to not see that strong sexual tension brewing between them the whole time ;)

Set yourself free, developers.

space1152.jpg

Give in to the temptation, and let go. See what happens. Let the world see that BioWare can make a romance-free game without it having any significant impact on its success.

Free yourself from the resources needed to do all the extra voicover and writing.

Free yourself from the inescapable rage backlash over every romance detail.

Developers, set yourselves free.

tumblr_mph9og5KSV1r54qfqo1_500.gif

Who says they aren't already free, and enjoy, over the critisism, money cost, and work, making romances as much as we enjoy romancing them?
