Hmm. I must begrudgingly admit you have tempted me to shift my position. If necessary, I'm pretty sure I would be willing to... "be" this romance option for the BioWare fan base.
Yes. Copulation just before the final mission of the game will result in a criticial mission failure.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but you make a good point. The resources put into things that I like are definitely better spent. I will put this useful tidbit in my back pocket for further use.

That's probably true a lot of the time, but do you really believe everyone is like that? You do know there's more people than basement dwellers and neckbeards who play Mass Effect, right? Some are even married *gasp*. And these married people still gush over their romances.... and their spouse posts along with them. Just for example.

Their older games didn't have romances, like Baldur's Gate 1.
That's the only game that didn't. Once introduced in BG 2 they've never gone away.

Drop them to 2, 3 at most for both genders and the entire game combined, then mix it with a crew of perhaps 10-12 squad members or so, could be interesting.
And in return for reducing the number, make those 2-3 actually relevant to the story, perhaps in a similar way the one with Bastila worked.

No romance? In a Bioware game? That's just asking for trouble.

This seems like a fear reaction. I wonder what you could be afraid of?
user @user Dec 21
@macwalterslives I'm so ready for the next mass effect...can you tell us if we will be able to experience more alien love interests?
Mac Walters @macwalterslives Dec 22
@sistau_cadence Given that both romances AND aliens are a big part of the Mass Effect experience, I think the odds are very high.
I don't know. What are you afraid of?

Ah, I see we've already resorted to insulting people who like things we don't like. Stay classy, BSN. Stay classy.
I was ready to play along at first, but it's not all that fun, is it?

So ME:A should be exactly like the real life that people play games to escape from for a while? Cool.
Note to developers: please include spouse, kids, and mortgage in ME:A.
Biovar, pls.

Every good movie has a romance. Romance is a must. Preferably something dramatic.

I'd really prefer they be limited to four or fewer options with strong development and conflicts. Liara's romance is the closest BioWare has come to that.
Hopefully the Montreal Team does not take after Inquisition or Dragon Age in general...

That "like" was because my finger slipped. I'm deeply offended at your characterization of Elcor romances.
