Ah, yes...

Also, are the air quotes there to suggest that it is somehow a misleading or inaccurate term for the phenomenon?

"Air quotes"

We have dismissed this claim.

But thank you for playing.

Or (drum roll) both.

The difference between what?

I'm no Padawa, because I haven't the foggiest clue what your meaning is.

This sounds less like harmonizing views, and more like shaming people who disagree with you.

Shaming people who disagree with me huh? Nice mischaracterization there.

I'll tell you one thing, I know the games/media that are better than Mass Effect trilogy and Bioware games and there way of doing things and how they handle romantic elements, and the whys and hows and the whens, I'll also defend those against any and all takers if you insist.

I'm not pretending to not compare things, I'm just trying to see what happens when I suggest an idea, if it's too much for you and others here I'll just bow out.

Thus  far it looks a little close the latter.

Oh Kefka, you are just too much. You encounter disagreement and interpret it as people being incapable of appreciating the scope of your vision. The truth is that most of us just don't dig being condescended to, and we have enough confidence to point out that you're doing it without reason.

Fair enough. Feel free to explain.

Well, I'm definitely not going to insist. But I won't stop you, so feel free to do so.

I'm not pretending to not compare things

Good for you. Any interest on enlightening the rest of us as to what those comparisons are? I'm only pointing it out because it is the difference between having some idea what you are talking about and having no idea what you are talking about.

Well, so far I've survived debating with "wanna make my elven wife a slave," "Wanna rape Sera because she's a lesbian," "Women want men to tell them what to do (ME 3 MP style)" "N7 Rating = skill," etc etc etc.

Instead of declaring that it's too much for me because I dared ask you direct questions about what you are saying, perhaps you could actually answer those questions in a substantive way?

No pressure.

That's you actually.

Anyway, the truth is that no one digs being condescended to, obviously, and you all have enough confidence such that I won't try to hide that fact or pretend that I'm not making comparisons between myself and the rest of you on the subject. The proper phrase for that is "answering questions" though, not condescension.

Thus, you can earn the response from me which is I will just state that I simply know and understand this stuff better than you all, whether you guys like it or not, you all are much more beta than you think you are, that infiltrates the romantic sphere, and it's bad, period.

If we would get over that fact that, then we can have a discussion. You are right, I won't concede this higher point, but that's because I'm standing right on it and the entire situation is incredibly clear to me.

I'm not going to waste more time on it one way or another, the only reason I invade this space is because people seem to want answers to their questions.

Much, much  better, one minute.

Edit: Ok, so I said "romance is a state of mind" right? That means, romance doesn't mean automatically interaction, it doesn't have to mean extensive dialogue, it doesn't have to mean extensive exchanges, it doesn't have to mean really anything at all.

That doesn't mean it doesn't exist however, a relationship can be bounded across space and time by trust or even symbols of trust that vaguely allude to the presence of romance but don't actively exert it on the player or in the world generally.

The fact that many people aren't even or are only vaguely aware of them in the games they often exist in is precisely my point, you cancreate a magical mysterious effect that is in the sphere of romance and have a cleaner presentation.

It seems you have more literal questions though which I guess I could dig up, about lesbianism, or rape, or something.

I can tell you one right now though which is if anything concerns rape it's terrible and bad and that's the end of that discussion.

Ok "Women want men to tell them what to do" Right that's all sexism and terrible also men and women are essentially equal with respect to how they will be sexually.

Some women want men to tell them w hat to do, some men want women to tell them to do, and some, as I've been alluding, don't really want anyone to say anything and to just know.

To clarify though, is it "romance" in general you find bizarre, or just the ones in these games?

Also, are the air quotes there to suggest that it is somehow a misleading or inaccurate term for the phenomenon?

Kefka, in earnest, people aren't usually looking for answers on the internet. Being an active poster on an internet forum, it's very unlikely to be a sign of someone who wants to be educated by someone else. Those people asks their questions, and then move on. The people on here having discussions believe that they've got a lot of things figured out. That's why they share their thoughts so much.

I'm having a discussion with Elcor, feel free to join if you want, or continue to mischaracterize, whatever.

Anyway as far as lesbianism is concerned, there's like 7 shades basically, it's quite a topic.

There's like the lesbian/gay in the sense of just kissed a guy/gal to appear more edgy, which is Sera, who really isn't lesbian. There's lesbian like Cassandra/Dorian where it's more an actual concerted passion for the same sex, and then there's where it's just the tip of bisexuality where a person starts expressing sexuality in ways that go beyond same sex interaction.

I'm not really sure what you wanted to know though.

Well I guess we're done here. I won't waste any more of mine and your time.

It appears modern Bioware and their fans have a long and painful growth process ahead of them with respect to this topic, it's unfortunate they simply won't take the advice of those who know what they're doing and have pride intervene in that process, but it is a common thing. They also are certainly not out on their own in this category, having many advantages other game companies don't have, and who knows, maybe we'll all be playing Andromeda together in the future.

However, the reason of course ME1 and certain of games were better is because of the doctors who preached humility and understanding and made that a core value of their company, something it seems modern Bioware and their fans have yet to learn. Those guys will always have my respect and admiration, wherever they go. I regret not having been here earlier to defend them against them and their (far too many) detractors.

Maybe their current team still has that, and they just need a refresher course, I don't know the details. Their games and presentation of sexuality certainly aren't as good as they could be, or sometimes often were, I know that much.

Before leaving this thread though I will say should your exploration or intervention into sexuality and media and good gaming happen to spill over into areas which I know to be stronger or more defensible, then obviously I'll be defending them. Good luck to you all, in everything.

Somehow, the idea that you believe you could have a romance with someone without interacting with them doesn't surprise me.

That doesn't mean it doesn't exist however, a relationship can be bounded across space and time by trust or even symbols of trust that vaguely allude to the presence of romance but don't actively exert it on the player or in the world generally.

I definitely follow you now. The word you're looking for is "stalking."

The fact that many people aren't even or are only vaguely aware of them in the games they often exist in is precisely my point, you cancreate a magical mysterious effect that is in the sphere of romance and have a cleaner presentation.

So... the phenomenon you are describing is one that only you and a handful of special people are aware of. Okay.

It seems you have more literal questions though which I guess I could dig up, about lesbianism, or rape, or something.

Did I ask you about these things?

I can tell you one right now though which is if anything concerns rape it's terrible and bad and that's the end of that discussion.

Well, if there's one thing that I've learned on the internet, it's that as soon as the self-proclaimed expert says "that's the end of the discussion" it never ever goes any further.
