I am fine with romances. What is wrong with them?

They get worse witch each new game since the ME2 but that´s the same with overall character design and writing...

Nah man, there's a reason why the romance section was closed for nearly two years. It wasn't just because the Miranda fans went full retard, that was just the straw that broke the camels back, the romance section was already living on borrowed time due to the toxicity it brought to BSN, arguments over there would end up spilling over into other parts of the forum.

Thankfully the worst offenders have long left BSN, so it's much calmer here now, but back then it was a cesspit.

Why on earth would it ever matter, though? Why would the game developers make any decision based on the relative civility of the forums?

Honestly,

In every fandom I've ever been a part of (Farscape, Star Trek, The X-Files, ect.), the question of "shipping" and romances has always been the most contentious, toxic, hotly debated topic.

Especially with "The X-Files."  Ugh.  I think the Shipper v. NoRomo wars of the '90s tore a hole in the stratosphere.

Nothing that happens on the BSN in regards to romance debates surprises me.

Well, I was pretty satisfied with my garrus-shepard relationship, and the solas romance didn't disappoint me. On the contrary, they are getting better. So yeah, a big

It sounded more like expressing an opinion than a complaint.

I would disagree with him about DA:I, which I felt was arguably a move in the right direction, if one is going to do them. That doesn't mean that I'm complaining. Opinions and disagreements are a fact of life in forums.

You're right... sorry for that, then.

As long there are still significant cutscenes with companions, I could play a game without romance.

I mean, I love the romances I think they give the story a bit of extra depth, but if that layer of depth is achieved without romances, then I'm for it - in theory. I just really want rich and full cutscenes, not just a bunch of combat and missions.

That and a proper manfu that takes charge and isn't some submissive chump like Kaidan or a gross looking alien/non-human, like a Daario Naharis type.

What about hardened Alistair?

Meh, elves are just humans with pointy ears and besides, can only 'mance him as an elf, soo....

Dragon Age Origins' Elves were just (slightly smaller) humans with pointy ears. DA2 changed them into something more freakish.

I missed this. Very generally, what was up with the Miranda fans?

Yeah, I have not been a part of it, but I hear that's a thing.

Well, I wasn't around, but I heard about it and did a quick forensic study. I think there was a huge argument over different... interpretations of the character? Eventually some of them broke off and tried to create their own thread, but it got closed by the mods because you could only have one thread per character. And of course the two sides didn't want to go back together. The whole section got closed not long after.

If closing the romance forum means no more romance, closing off-topic means no more sidequests.

I don't admit to trolling often (because in spite of the accusations, I don't do it very often.) But one of my proudest/most hilarious experiences on BSN was simultaneously trolling Ghost's Purgatory and the Mirandamancers. Man... those guys were hilariously easy to troll for a bunch of... well... self-confessed trolls.

Oops. Ignore that mods. Don't go back and look at the "miranda should have tattoos" thread from 2013. It totally never happened, and I am totally innocent.

Miranda should have a tattoo though. A tasteful Cerberus logo right between the dimples of her back.

Time to go digging up some stuff from the past.

Confession: The title of the thread was changed to protect myself. Also, it was on old BSN, so much more difficult to find because the new awesome search engine doesn't really work as well with the threads from before spring 2014.

I probably missed it but what was the old name? I'm really curious as to what could ****** of people so badly.

Spoiler

Right below it, upside down, could be the helpful reminder 'My name is Miranda.'

This place is toast. I'm thinking of writing Bioware some form of serious reccomendation for them to just shut this entire place down. I doubt they'll follow it, but maybe they'll see these issues some time off in the future, that'll be that.

The people that make the games are still in good shape and we'll probably continue to make them, but this rampant horde that cares very little for the actual effort and sacrifice made to make them and finds a never-ending way to distribute cheap and worthless opinions and call it "Social justice," or even ride off the backs of those who do that are.. frankly.. well.. as I've said, not going to waste really any more time on it.

I do hope Bioware recognizes the problem here and with fan interactions generally, I suspect the problem will continue to fester for some time.

No they didn't. You wouldn't be singing that tune romanced Jacob or Thane.

Even worse because I was doing it for achievements and that literally just screwed me over on a gameplay level because I had already closed off Traynor.

Shut down BSN? And deny me my cheap internet hangout and mild entertainment? That's madness, that is.

Actually the bigger issue is Bioware itself is kind of drifting... like Kirby, Chee, Gaider, Kristjansen, these are some of their most talented people but all the names I see everywhere these days are Weekes, Karpyshyn... etc..

I'm not saying those others aren't interesting or something (please don't be offended if you guys read this somehow or something), they simply create things that are more like what I get in other media, thus the identity has been shifting really since the EA moment, and they haven't really fully realized their past identity since then it seems to me.

Of course, the doctors are long since gone.

As fraustrating as that may be for a player following them since the beginning, it pales into comparison to the neverending riot that this pretty much all these main, sub, and MP forums, including possibly the feedback and other forums.

For example I look funny to you Kaisershep, but wait until all the MP players swarm this place with balance issues or whatever, I can very much predict it'll possibly happen, and then you will be wishing all you had was what it is now with the occasional meteoric troll.

The reason DA2 and ME3 were such splashes is because they're pretty good games that had a pretty big budget and marketing campaign, unfortunately all that did was bring them into contact with people who hate them more than respect them. Actually that probably started the moment they went console.. I don't know all the details.

Anyway, when I listen to the interviews with game developers, I'm still like you know these guys (and gals!) are cool, it's really a disservice to them and their talent to pay too much heed to this place, I guess would be my point, or smething. Getting rid of it all entirely might be a good way to achieve that, the fans that really follow them can find other ways like conventions and stuff.

Even that ruddy old Bioware forum that I visited time to time was pretty entertaining, what with the silly avatars and all that.
