Yeah. This will be the third post about this but i think it is interesting. At the end of the trailer the n7 guy is standing and in the back he has something that looks like a star gate from the films.
When I posted there was just a text discussion thread which didn't have all the things I pointed out :/ Im aware there is a few threads around now though.
Maybe it's just me, but Pathfinder Initiative sounds more like a search for habitable environments. Add the fact that they're scanning geological structures seems to drive the theory that they're looking for potential colony planets. Just a thought.
Though, more likely, since they found what i think is a Prothean structure, maybe they're looking for more Prothean tech?
Was there ever any evidence that the Protheans even travelled outside of the milky way? Im still convinced its a completely new race.

Calling it now, a portion of the Protheans escaped the Mily Way Galaxy, headed to Andromeda, then took it over.

I couldn't say for certain, but I think we can see the "ARK" on the galaxy map proper and not just in the blink and you'll miss it snippet when the N7 is flicking through the various locales at the beginning. It's just below the abbreviation "TMP" south-east of the plotted FTL destination about 44 seconds into the trailer.

TMP- My guess would be temperature, specially seeing as it looks like you got lava below you, it kind of makes sense to keep track of the temperature in that case.
I thought this likely too, only "TMP" also appears on the shot of the galaxy map, and is in close proximity to "ST", which you can make out at a glance just below where the "TMP" is on the final shot of the N7 inspecting the desert world just before bringing up the galaxy map.

Thanks! This throws me a little. ARK and ARKCON seem to be the name of an organisation or company, so there wouldnt be any reason to be mapped. Unless it was a structure like the citadel of course.
I think this ARK could be that concept art from late last year that the devs said was intended to evoke a similarity with the Citadel.

I personally found it indicative of a desire to create something very aesthetically similar to the Citadel Presidium, which would work well for an ark intended to act as a main hub for the former denizens of the Milky Way, but it could be practically any space station located in Andromeda.
The name and the sign Ark or Arkcon really makes me think of the Ark myth. The scenario, that Alliance really sent a group of troops to see if there is any habitable planets in case if Reaper wins in a different galaxy is really making sense. The mythic Ark was filled with potential survivalist. Two of every species. For me it indicates that Alliance or some other program decided to collect a group with members from different species to help the other galaxy to survive in the event of possible end. (sry my english. gonna be famous with that line.)
Edit: The trip to other galaxy would also take so long that when the Ark group arrives it has been very many years since the happenings og Mass Effect 1-3. They propably slept in some kind of comatose.

Theory time:
ARK is the name of the new 'Citadel', it is basically its own nation, which explains the patch reading ARKCON (Path-finding initiative: ARK ReCONnaissance?). This also explains ARK being on the system map as it were (it seemed that the planets were abbreviated to 2-3 letters). The lettering between slides could just be a 'made in china' stamp so to speak.
No idea what ARK could stand for though. Andromeda Research and Knowledge? Acts of Random Kindness? Who knows.
