So if you go onto Valve official site, they seem to have a Half-Life 3 image on it.
Is this an elaborate troll or will the game finally be released?

Well, I mean, it's already happened:
we all know that Gabe Newell can't count to 3. it is a troll that is why there is no L4d3, no Portal 3, or Half life 2 espiode 3, or half life 3.
Easy now ...

The internet just recovered.

I'm assuming troll because "valve.software" with its logo linking to valvesoftware.com (missing that one bullet) makes me suspicious.
I won't believe it's real until Gaben flops out of the ocean to say so himself.
The OP post contains three lines.
OP's name is three syllables.
Double "ll"s are repeated three times in the third line
Half Life 3 confirmed.
I want to believe......
But I can't.
My anti-virus program is telling me it isn't legit.
should have been posted here first:
There is only two Half Life(s) you idiots!
The first half and the second half... there is no 3rd Half (Life)!
To be honest I never understood why the Half Life series is held in such high regard, I never actually managed to complete Half Life 2 as it was so incredibly boring, felt more like Valve trying to show off their physics engine than a game meant for entertainment purposes.
Not sure why people are hanging out for Half Life 3
In the interest of full disclosure I never actually played the first Half Life

Some people just don't have good tastes I guess.
Elaborate trolling confirmed, on vavle's real official site Dota 2 is in that spot.

You mean the Star Ocean.

I finished HL1 which was pretty cool but HL2 I did not finish either.
HL1 definitely seemed much better than 2 at least.
I am genuinely curious as to why these games are held in such high regard, the mere mention of these games are met with almost universal praise and critical acclaim that I can't help but feel there must be something I am missing about these games.
Well, for HL1, It was one of the first Major FPSes with a worthwhile storyline and a protagonist that wasn't a power fantasy trip. Ph. D Graduate with a wrench? HL2 had dramatically better facial animations and explored a more orwellian take on their universe. Also had some sleek music to it.To be honest I never understood why the Half Life series is held in such high regard
Weird, Googling Valve lists you to the "dot" one first. I'm not sure what's up with that. It's a ruse. Here is the real Valve homepage.

That is a good point, in the modern era when you have stuff like ME it's hard to want to go back and play something like HL2, but for the time... the only comparison would of been Doom or something.
Although to be honest System Shock 2 aged quite a bit better.

Yeah, it's elaborate (or real) enough to get to the top of google search results, so that's something.

It's pretty much Emo Teen Trash Gaiden tbh.

I myself never understood the praise for the game as well, then again I didn't play it at release and I wasn't really paying attention to the quality of the games that I bought. As far as I can tell, Half-Life basically set the standards for shooters and game engines. The gameplay was smooth and crisp, the story was deep and engaging whilst being non-intrusive and the physics engine was revolutionary at the time. The attention to detail was incredible, the faces were excellent and still kinda hold up to this day, the music was nice and the gameplay was varied. Although the game could be seen as nothing but a good tech demo to show off Source.

Sasuke?

HL2 Still holds up. HL1......I gotta put on my rose tinted glasses in some areas.
I loved the part where Master Chief was in the game along with Samus Aran and Nathan Drake. Half Life 3 is amazing.
Well, I mean, it's already happened:
I'd pay money for that.
