I don't think it has anything to do with the cpu usage.
The game makes my dual core boil as well (both cores at 100%) but apart from that, it does not seem to cause much trouble.

I'm playing with a P4 3Ghz, which is half as powerful as your CPU and i have tolerable skipping, so its nothing to do with your CPU.

sounds like you have some malware there

Theres been countless threads on this, i don't know what to suggest if you don't have a quad.
Bioware are looking into this so hopefully it should be fixed soon, it only seems to happen to some people.
Anyway have a look at these threads.

yea on the other BW forume people that have quads have reported the same thing.
as for malwear i dont think that is it have ran scan after scan with no result.
the only other thing i can think of is this error i keep getting.
" loggin process has failed to create the security option dialog "
whats ever that means.

Same issue with mine, runs at 100% no matter what is going on. I have to disable background programs to keep from crashing. sometimes it does crash or the video flashes during movies.
Amd 2.8
Ram 2 gigs
Nvivid 8600 gx
win xp.

Kiddeth it does matter. I have found that the utility likes to score lower end systems with higher settings that they can actually handle. Also, with 2 gb of ram, having the game run with 70-90% memory handling is pretty normal.
but a 100% cpu usage means the game is not using your cpu right, or some software is severely conflicting with dragon age, causing an increase in cpu load. Seeing as i doubt this is completely dragon age its fault, im guessing there is software running in your background that is also cpu heavy or simply conflicting. have you tried ending back ground programs before playing dragon age?
edit : im also to bed ><

there is nothing wrong with 100% CPU utilization

This issue has been reported in multiple threads in different ways. Most people seeing an issue like this have a 3800 ati video card. I myself have a quad core phenom and even when I set DA to run on only one core it crashes. No word from Bioware or ATI yet.

Most games utilize 100% cpu, even a simple loop that does absolutely nothing utilizes 100% cpu (one core). Programs crashing definitely have another reason.
Maybe your cpu is overheating when it goes to 100% utilization, check your temperatures and maybe run a stability test like prime95 or intelburntest (I dont know if this one will work on AMD cpus).

well i can tell you whats its not .
not over heating.
no other programs running as i have turned them all off.
i have never had a game use 100% of CPU, Age Of Conan hovers around 75% with everything maxed out
on start up setting idle or surfing the net my PC uses around %5 cpu and 47% memory.
I'll try prim95 and get back to you.

Got the same problem. Whenever i start the game it takes 2 mins and i got 100% cpu, and then its 100% on all cores. have tried all settings but no change.
no other games i got uses so much cpu.. only flight sim x manage to use 70-90% at all max settings.
normal cpu use is from 1-4% at desktop and 20-40% in most games.
currently running DA with every setting at max in game, strange thing is that everything was fine yesterday...
system spec:
Win 7 64 bit
Nvidia 260 gtx
6 GB ram
550W psu
Core 2 Quad 2,4GHz

yea i'm at a total loss for what to do.
have ran AOC while other programs in the background and have never used 100%CPU.
could be a memory leak i guess but not sure on that.

Ok, but this game obviously use all the cpu power it can get.

It indeed does, it always is at 100% cpu for me and probably everyone else. 100% cpu usage is never the cause of problems unless the cpu overheats.
