Wait....shouldn't weapons and armor be obsolete, to an extent?

oh hell....how could i have forgotten....DAMN......the SWORDS.....N7 Shadows and Slayers.  them swords. cutting through shields and armor meant to protect against energy and projectiles.....slow moving objects/weapons, not so much. Kinda like that force-field armor in Dune.

Except Omni Blades still beat out regular swords, as shown by Shepard shattering kai lengs sword and the omni blade shotgun attachment being better than the regular knife attachment.

Shepard used his fist to break Kai Lame's sword not his omni-blade.

Yet there are still some who use swords. Including N7 Shadows and some Cerberus troops...

The Mono-molecular blades used by those units are there for psychological purposes. To kill another being with a steel sword and see their blood splatter causes quicker desensitization than other methods of combat, also a physical blade is a solid item, not requiring omni-gel to be flash-forged and not affected by anything that may disrupt the omni-tool. It serves a particular purpose, but omni-weapons are clearly the evolution of melee combat

Judging by gameplay, they're both about the same.

Oh you so did not just insult the awesomeness of Tech Armor.

I keep thinking back to how Omnitool tech should have advance in the intervening millenia, based by how far it advanced in only 2-3 years in the original trilogy.  By the end of it the trilogy can instantly fabricate

Are you applying logic to a RPG?  Yes, you are correct, IMHO, if this was rl.

Since it isn't, it's part of the RPG formula...we just need an excuse to lose that technology or any other writer trick...and BAM we're a rig RPG sweating our gear, again.

Great thought, tho!

Well omniblades were obsolete from the moment they were invented because putting swords as an intergral combat component in a game with fully automatic firearms is bad anime levels of stupid as is.

Other than that, there is such thing as the concept of mature technology, which basically means you can only take a certain technology so far before the law of diminishing returns starts to kick in. Take modern firearms, which have only undergone incremental changes in concept since around the First World War. Or agricultural equipment, which did not change for thousands of years until a completely different technology (mechanization) became possible.

Disagree. Knives would still be handy for stealth take downs. Not sure how stealthy a glowing holographic sword is but whatever.

Armor can constantly be improved.  Same with weapons.

The infinite arms/armor race. As weapons become more deadly so too must armor improve to save us, which is the eternal cycle

Biotic Hammer > Omni-Blade or Sword

Plus MP mods are a case of gameplay mechanics trumping lore, so they're a really bad argument as to one being "better" than the other.

Unless you seriously want to argue that attaching a blade to your shotgun makes your biotic punch hit harder, because that is exactly what happens.

Ah you're right, been a while.

Well my other point still stands.

No, pointing out the uselessness of regular armor, since it protects you about as well as a tshirt.
