You are born into the mass effect universe and can choose to have the abilities of one of the 3 archetypes...

Interesting that most people chose adept and to a lesser extent engineer vs a soldier.  Especially considering most people play the standard run and gun soldier for mass effect (according to some stat released years ago).  The least exotic, dullest, most uninspired class possible, the LEAST escapist fantasy type of class imaginable.  The kind of archetype they can LITTERALLY capture and mimic in REAL LIFE which makes me lose a little faith in humanity that their interests and desires and fantasies are so mundane... (I know, I'm judging).  But most of you chose to be demi gods (adepts) or cyborgs (engineers).  Some faith in humanity and better taste restored.

Soldier is OK for unlocking a lot of weapons at least (in ME1). As for this poll, you asked what we (the players) identify as. I assume that means I have to bring myself into this. So I still pick soldier, even if it's plain. I'm athletic. And the only thing I know about confronting enemies is physical fights. I'm not a hacker, so I don't fight people by dox'ing them or something. So Engineer isn't playing up any actual thing I relate to.

And if this actually makes you lose faith in humanity, consider this: Right now, someone is stepping on a cat's skull, just for the fun of it. Or kidnapping children and raping them. Or shooting up innocent people for no reason (see recent news in South Carolina). There are better reasons to lose faith in humanity than what people do in Mass Effect   ;)

Adept.

The only real downside is potentially getting lynched, but that's a risk I'd be willing to run for Biotic powers.

I just have a god complex, and a difficult time understanding why others don't share in my own psychosis.  They'd choose wolverines claws over storms abilities and be happy rushing face first into trouble with martial arts vs more cosmic powers being wielded.  The preference in style is so dischordant from my own I worry that we'll get too much catering to the wolverine lovers of the world (and we KNOW how much focus is placed on that uninteresting character at the expense of others).  That said, at least bioware keeps other classes in even though they are less popular.

I understand.. I see the same thing with mage/warrior fantasies in err.. the fantasy genre. It probably goes back to something we all did as kids.. Maybe.

Count me in the Wolverine camp though.

Engineer. Let the drones and the turrets do all the dirty work (and probably everything, glyph style) for ya.

Fun question.

I'd be ok with being an Adept Asari (don't deal with the implant).

Edit: Also I'm guilty of playing as Soldier first go around. Although I had the moss fun playing as a Vanguard. Least was Sentinel.

I'd be the boring engineer that just works on machinery and never sees combat.

Is Kai Leng a class?

I'd like to break into people's houses and eat all their cereal. And then when they get home they blame each other for eating all the cereal and/or drinking all the milk.

Biotic powers are cool, but I would go with the hybrid, Infil.

While my initial reaction was to say adept (who wouldn't love to be able fling crap around with their minds?) when I think about it an engineer is the smartest way to go if you are in a jam you can figure out how to get out of it with resourcefulness and technical know how.

I assume that I would be a civilian and not some kind of fighter unless I chose Soldier of course. ;)

Engineer. Biotics in civilian life seem to me more as convenience powers with the exception of creating barriers or bubbles. Bubbling something sounds like working in some kind of hazardous environment, protecting your fellow coworkers, I rather choose the engineering degree and build bots for fetching stuff If I want to. Slowing down if you fall sounds like fun and useful but I don´t have a habit of jumping from great heights. :D

And soldier? No thanks, no interest in military life.

I'd be an Adept, which is I play the most in the games.

Not for the sake of being a "space wizard" though, I actually go with rogues in fantasy settings.

What do you choose?

Soldier?

Adept?

Engineer?

hybrids are part of the game but for the sake of this thread I want you to choose between the main types to get a bead on what people prefer to be more.

In real life I picked "engineer", and that's worked out pretty well for me, so I don't think I'd change it.

Soldier, brute force and power, always start off any type of game as the warrior/soldier type class.

Adept comes with side effects.  I'm not sure I want that, despite how awesome adepts are.  I'd probably go for adept, but I might go for engineer.

The idea of having a soldier's abilities bores me, personally.
