The ME series, as a whole, may be my favorite gaming experience of all time. That said, I wouldn't consider any of them as objectively the best games.

I always love to see Ninja Gaiden get love though, I still play it from time to time, because it's awesome. Also nice to see Panzer Dragoon Saga get love, again, because awesome.

I can tell people right now, Digital Devil Saga is my favorite eastern RPG ever, odds are its cousin, SMT: Nocturne is likely the objectively better game. Mass Effect is my favorite Western RPG ever, I think I'd place Planescape: Torment, and KotOR higher in terms of being better games.

Age plays a factor. 8 years ago I would have said Deus Ex is the end-all, be-all of FPS RPGs. Then I played the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, and Human Revolution... Some of the luster wore off the original after the graphical improvements, and quality of life changes.

I should say, The Last of Us, along with Shadow of the Colossus, are probably two of the only games I can look at and say: "I find almost no faults here". They may not do what they do best, but they do everything they set out to do with almost no weaknesses. A game that's good to great everywhere is rare indeed.

That said, there are thousands of games I haven't touched, hidden gems I'm sure I'm missing somewhere.

Second person to post TMNT- The Arcade game for Arcade and NES. Lots of found Sinful memories with this one playing it at a young age during the Turtle cartoon craze he watched religiously. Played the Arcade very little and a whole lot more for the NES (TMNT3 for NES is better though). As well as enjoying the Nintendo Power coverage this game & it's NES only sequel got (only two Nintendo Power issues I still have). And anybody ever use that coupon for Pizza Hut? Why would anyone want to kneecap a Nintendo manual just for an amazing Pizza Hut pizza? (Anyone rememeber tripple decker was a replicant Pizza Pizza pizza? It was so good. Sinful sends me back in time to grab one all the time).

Did you beat Ninja Gaiden? And Last of Us was a very interesting first playthrough, but we don't see any replay value outside of the great story told.

And you drunk? No wonder you forgot to list ME3mp at #1.

Best is Skyrim. Oblivion, Mass Effect 2, KOTOR, Fallout 3 and DAO are all contenders for second place.

Great post. Japanese RPGs are the best. Mass Effect & Bethesda games as the only Western RPGs we enjoy.

As for hidden gem. It's Shining Force 3 for the Sega Saturn that everyone missed out that generation since Saturn didn't sell near as well as PS1. And it's way better then FF7. Scenario 2 and 3 of SF3 are already fan translated with a patch since the West only got part of the story in Scenario 1. Don't even need a Sega Saturn. Use SSF Sega Saturn emulator. But we bought the games too since we such massive fans of it and can use the swap disk trick to play on a real Sega Saturn (Sinful played SF3 for 10 non-stop months. Longest played game ever before ME3mp. And a game that made playing other SRPGs impossible afterwards. So maybe play some other SRPGs first before you play the best).

I don't even know what my favorites are. I'll just say the Wing Commander series because I've remembered it for so long. And the Tony Hawk series because I wasted so much time with it.

I just didn't get into the Fallout 3 game. Hell for that matter I never saw the appeal of Bioshock. Now I haven't played other titles in those series but I never saw the need to.

It's fun to explore and kill people different ways in those games. I've never played any of the batman games..

Bioshock series is AMAZING... I played Bioshock Infinite before I even tried Bioshock 1. went back to try it after Infinite. The Crysis series is really awesome as well.. Imagine playing Battlefield 3 but with Aliens.

Crysis is like a Michael Bay movie. It has the nutritious value of a chewing gum. But at least it gives you good breath.

We knew all along BossWeed was cool. Sega Phantasy Star confirms this (we love part 1 & IV very much. Still need to play part 2).

Haven't been able to make it far enough into BioShock until the game grabs you. If that ever happens...

You're really pimping Phantasy Star. Sorry to say I never played it.

I bought a Saturn, but got paranoid and exchanged it for a Playstation.

Buying Saturn during that early launch with Daytona USA & Sega Steering Wheel made that summer. Hard to say no to Saturn after that. But we eventually got the PS1 too just because Twisted Metal 2 looked that good in that EGM2 guide with maps. But some of the gems on the Saturn really surpass PS1 games. ie. There's nothing like Shining the Holy Ark on PS1 (takes place before Shining Force 3... Hint; Rhymes with Sinful Force).

We became Sega fans before planet Saturn during the second half of 16-Bit wars. Originally prefered SNES... but something about Sega won us over, and still to this day. To bad the golden age of Sega is now long gone. They've now turned into EA.

PS series was only on Saturn as a compilation. PS1 on SMS, PS2-4 on Genesis/MegaDrive. Sinful frequents the Sega 16 forums during ME3mp hibernation. PS2 was the first to do the FF7 Aries thing too. PS series was really ahead of it's time. PS1 is a fist person dungeon crawl (play it without using maps or grid paper map making for max enjoyment) & overhead world map. PS2-4 is all overhead turn based RPG. Many consider PS4 as one of the best RPGs ever.

Soul games are excellent too. Just like the glory days of videogames. We own all console version of them just like Mass Effect, if you need further confirmation of it's awesomeness.

The game is harder than a nail to the scrotum and is a good play but the storyline is as coherent as anime on LSD.

I mostly just like Fallout 3 because I enjoy the way it plays. I don't really care for the setting and I think the post-apocalyptic wasteland is far less interesting than Tamriel, but it's the first Bethesda game I played, and it introduced me to my favorite style of open-world game.

Nope. Like I said, the setting and "all grey everything" don't really interest me, but the gameplay is what got me into it. SPECIAL, the skills, perks, etc. made for what I thought to be a very entertaining type of game in spite of the terribly bland and dull environments.

2: Ninja Gaiden ( NES)

I still have nightmares about some of the master-troll level platform jumps in that game.  I don't know if I've ever been happier beating a game than I was for beating Ninja Gaiden.  I also don't think I have ever felt more depressed than the first time I beat the first final boss incarnation in that game and thought that it was the end, only to have the second incarnation kill me.

So Shining Force 3 is now available in English thanks to fans translations?

If Sega had any brains left they would pay the people that did it (assuming it was a competent job) and release it on Steam and Gog, just like it happened with the YS series.

I used to love it (1 and 2) on the genesis, but gave up on 3 when sega entered self-destructive mode.
