Hi guys, here's a bit of trivial pursuit for you .. but you've gotta learn something new each and every day, right? :)

Was just playing a solo game with my Warlord when all of a sudden he meleed a geth the standard krogan way, with his arm  and fist while uttering the standard happy krogan roar. I was like Whaaaat!? I didn't know he could do that? Never seen it happen before. Haven't used him a whole lot of course but I've done several hundred waves with him at least.

So, was it just a glitch or is there a fourth melee attack besides hammer, bat-strike and head-butt? If so, how do you trigger it?

Thanks.

Sprint and melee

Also he has a light melee chain. 3 light melees in a row and the third melee discharges whatever you have the hammer charged with.

Sprint and melee

Oh is that it? Funny I've never caused it before. Thanks, must try again. :)

IIRC if you Sprint and Melee you enter rage with only one kill. (That's IIRC though)

Well 6a in his fitness tree lets him get into rage within 1 melee kill. Sometimes his hammer doesn't register as a melee kill, but headbutt and sprinting melee always count as melee, so maybe it's that?

Yeah, he basically has 4 different melee attacks- the hammer smash (pressing and holding melee button), the first couple melee attacks in the melee chain (tap melee button), the final melee/backhand swing of the melee chain which uses any activated hammer power, and the running melee (sprint and hold melee). So many ways to crush enemies...

All characters have a sprint canceled melee mode.

They don't need it.

Some of them aren't active for some reason.  There were a few that could have been installed if the community patch ever happened.  AV running melee is one I can remember off hand.

No - Dala Kaar is right:  Killing an enemy with the sprinting heavy melee will trigger Rage on the Warlord with a single kill, even if you don't take Rank 6A.  It's a glitch.... a really awesome glitch.

Cool. Haven't heard of that before. The more you know...

Wow, AV running melee would be awesome! :D

I wish he could just sit on them, it'd be just perfect.

Oh .. so that's a melee cancel that happens? Cool. Another thing I never knew since I never really play melee builds.

Hey, now I've learned two things today. Awesome! :)

Makes 6b with him a bit more viable if you're consistently sprint killing

It's neat because Bat Gauntlet can be sprint canceled to the default heavy melee but it still blows the heads off enemies. Also on Volus it allows two different cloak cooldowns which is almost broken when you get the hang of it.

And so many ways to get sync killed (silly PUGs)

It can be done the moment you start the running animation. If you're good at it, you can get to the point where you can basically do it from a standstill.

As an fyi. Backhanding makes it REALLY easy to stay in rage mode since it triggers after every backhand kill he makes. Also, he is almost invincible when backhanding due to the damage reduction and enhanced regen he gets from tech armor+rage+heavy melee. Usually when I play krolord I just run around backhanding all the mooks to stay invincible and usually only pull out the biotic hammer for armored units and phantoms.

This is how I play him too, you only need to hit the "run" button an instant before hitting the heavy melee button.  I still like headbutting, but the backhand is very effective.  One note though - unlike the other Krogans, the Krolord's backhand has a small AOE on it.  The good thing is that this makes it easier to backhand enemies without "locking" on first (headbutts are still better if you're not locked on though).  The bad thing is that the AOE is kind of glitchy, and there is a certain range where you can lock on to an enemy and do your backhand, but it will do no damage.  It will still hit and stagger, but no damage.

Indeed the AOE is a wonderful thing. I find it ridiculously useful as it negates melee lock-on issues with smoke, stasis, or ragdolled enemies.

The bug where it does no damage is annoying, but easy to work around once you know how it works. The trigger (just in case you haven't fully identified it yet, and for other benefit of other readers) is dragging yourself to an enemy with his backhand from beyond it's normal animation range. It works fine on other krogans, but not him (also, it only affects his backhand and not his hammer or headbutt). It can be completely negated 100% of the time by not using the backhand attack until you are close enough to backhand the enemy without dragging yourself to them.

Agreed, although I suspect they'd still manage to get synced 6 times per match even if they had a couple fewer options...
