Ploppets?
Ploppets?
Creepy children are a phobia of mine.
Or perhaps a plot moppet that has a point to it. This kid? A great big question mark that......
Allowed some dialogue that did not affect events when we first met him.
Appeared in dream sequences where the game mechanic was, point character at child. Run forward. Rinse and repeat. Get cutscene. Again, what was the point of that interaction? To convey something? Okay but as a player I don't feel that I accomplished anything in these sequences.
........ We do not mention the starbra..... braaaaa.... br...... That kid. The final decision that did allow us to make a choice out of a series of bad choices that did not fit the theme/undid past efforts/Left people wondering where the real ending was. (Delete/add as applicable).
The point is, this child did not give any appreciable game play that challenged the player. He's a plot point. And one that remains unresolved to such a degree that conspiracy theories abound as to what he was. Which may be fine to some but in a video game......?
Personally I'd have been happy cutting this kid out of the game altogether and devoting the resources to showing Tali's face on Rannoch. Why? Because that was the money shot that would have caused much, much rejoicing among the player fan base in a way that only Tali's character could deliver on.
But back to the topic at hand. Have a moppet if you want.... But please, as well as unanswered questions let it be something that adds challenge to the game. Something that when it appears we have to work to get our progress. Interaction is key in any game and walking up, hitting the talk button and choosing which line of dialogue to speak is fine for unimportant encounters, but this kid ought to have had a a purpose as to his inclusion in the game that went beyond standard NPC characters. Yet the game interaction treated him the same as everyone else and didn't support his specialness with mechanics reserved for him, or NPC's of his importance.
It's small wonder then this moppet felt like a waste of resource.
