I'm less curious about "how" and more about "why".

Now, I obviously know the reason they're moving the series to Andromeda is to get the clean slate after ME3's ending, but I'm curious as to the in-universe reason, which I know I may well have to wait for the game to learn. But let's talk about the possibilities, shall we?

Is it a general exploratory mission? We've discovered the 'how' so we're testing it out?

Are we seeking something specific? Is there a particular macguffin we've come to Andromeda for? If so, what is it, why do we need it?

Are we fleeing something? Have the Leviathans risen, seeking to reclaim what was theirs? Have the reapers been resurrected/broken free? Is there a new threat chasing us out of the Milky Way?

Are we all Leviathan thralls and is this a mission of conquest, bringing their empire to a new galaxy?

My guess would be a simple exploration mission. Depending on just how far in the future the new game is set from the original trilogy, chances are most of the Milky Way has been explored by now and it's time to find out more about the universe in other galaxies.

That or overpopulation. I saved the Krogans and that went wrong once in history so maybe it did again? *shrug*

I think it's set in the future, but it'll be a "thrown there from present day" type of plot. The heroes will be contemporary with Shepard until the plot kicks off.

they might of left during the reaper invasion in case if the reapers succeed in reaping. That way there will be survivors.

That was my thought also

There's the thought that ARKCON stands for Ark Contingency, meaning a plan to send a cross-section of the galactic population to Andromeda to escape the Reapers, "Continuity of Civilization" if you will.

I'm assuming the 'why' is related to the Reaper War.

Having the trip to Andromeda be a Plan B in case the Reapers win would make some sense, and tie in nicely with the Asari Councilor's post-Thessia dialogue about needing to take steps to ensure the continuance of galactic civilization.

It would also be smart for the leaders of the galaxy to have planned for the possibility that the Crucible either wouldn't be completed in time, might end up sabotaged or destroyed, or would fail to deliver the knock out blow they needed. Someone should have been asking, "What if it doesn't work?" and planning for that contingency as well.

You mean that Milky Way has run out of resoucers? I don't think something like this would be possible, even 2000 years after ME3 lol

They haven't explored 1% of the galaxy in ME trilogy.

Well, cryo stasis seems to be a crapshoot in the ME universe so maybe the brains behind the expedition thought "I know! Instead of waiting out the Reapers in cryo where it'll obviously not work and keep us frozen for 50,000 years, how about we build this huge colony ship and go over to the Andromeda galaxy!"

"But it's 2.5 million light years away. We'll never make it!"

"......The. Andromeda. Galaxy."

That would be my idea, anyway. :D

I don't think the "why" of how we get from Milky Way to Andromeda will be very extensively explained away, nor will it even be a focus of the new game. In the other games Bioware always found ways to discount continuity and this time the very premise is such a stretch that I think, knowing Bioware, they will not even think players want that explanation at all. Just accept that this is what the new game is about and roll with it.

It is basically similar to the Prothean plans for Ilos and Eden Prime. The only difference is that in this scenario the current cycle sent its survivors outside the galaxy instead of trying to hide them within it.

didn't that survey leak mention that we had to find a new home world for humanity? Also that there was a krogan colony ship, too. So, it seems like several races are looking for new homes.

To me, this points to our departure being during the Reaper war. Unless something else catastrophic is happening to the MW.

I think the Reaper war is a good why.

Unstable dark energy? Eh?

Maybe the giant machine gods of death woke the galaxy up to its fragility and mortality, so they have finally decided expanding beyond their boundaries. After all they were very static as a galactic civilization before, gleefully taking for granted the technology left behind by the precursor races and not bothering to go beyond it. The people who were visionaries and wanted to try studying the mass relays ended up getting the blue laughed off their butts and left to serve drinks in a bar.

Could be as simple as bragging rights. Humanity could want to look better than the other races. Nations do that sometimes - - grand thing that has little to no benefit other than prestige. Of course there COULD be something beneficial to their race but no guarantee.
