Would you have preferred a Prequel?

For those that are unhappy with the fact that the new ME game is leaving the Milky Way galaxy, would you have preferred if Bioware had instead announced a prequel?

A prequel to say ME1 could give them the opportunity of revisting the Milky Way without dealing with the Reaper Invasion and the consquences of multiple endings of ME3.

A prequel could also give us more exploration to more unknown areas of the Milky Way, which at the time the game takes place, as not been explored that much.

Of course it should also star a completly new character (maybe an alien).

So what you have preferred a prequel to a sequel set in Andromeda?  Or is moving into the future, into another galaxy, a better option then visting the past of the Milky Way?

After Andromeda is released, do you think a prequel should be next, to revist the Milky Way?

Prequels are extremely difficult to do in a satisfactory manner at the best of times. Furthermore I think Biowares dedication to running an import file and making sure choice is respected makes it virtually impossible to do a good one because nothing you do or decide in the prequel can influence games they have already made.

No, I direct sequel with Shepard as the protagonist is what I wanted but I'm not going to have a hissy fit because it isn't one. I'll wait and see and judge when I know more details.

I would have preferred a concurrent tale to the original trilogy, or even just ME3. Imagine being a trader, you'd still get to explore the galaxy, one of the complaints often mentioned in regard to ME3. Only now when you explore a system there is a very good chance it is under attack from Reapers. Do you chance taking the supplies to the troops? Do you flee and sell them on the black market? You could visit some of the major battles and events and have a different take on them.

I would have preferred a sequel in Milky Way. Prequel and Andromeda are both a poor choice, given the blurred mess ME3 left the Mass Effect universe (not in galactic sense) in.

A prequel including Shepard could only cover the N7 training, the Skyllian Blitz on Elysium and later the operation on Torfan. Which is not enough content for a game.

Without Shepard you could cover the First Contact War... and that's pretty much it for conflicts involving humans. If we do not have any humans in the game, we could do the Rachni wars, the Krogan Rebellion or half a dozen other galactic conflicts. Still... it wouldn't be anything new. We know how it ended.

There's not enough relevant past in the ME universe for a prequel. Unless you want to play as Protheans vs. Reapers. :P

No. Prequels end with Starbrat. You remember that thing that ruined the Mass Effect Universe?

no prequel, sick of that. God of War Acension, meh. Gears of War Judgement, meh. I prefer Andromeda, and no Shepard. The trilogy is over, we move on!

No, and I think a better question would be why are people unhappy with leaving a galaxy they got to explore extensively in the three previous games?

There's an entire thread on that. I suggest you read it for your answers. Suffice it to say, I doubt very much it would go down well with Star Wars fans if Ep. VII was in a new galaxy.

I think a prequel would be cool BUT if there was a prequel our choices that we could make would be very limited and most of the choices wouldn't be galaxy wide affecting decisions. If there is a prequel I hope it's a movie and it's about the First Contact war. That might never happen but I can dream right?

I'm sure one of us is being facetious.

Heck nah. We must go forward, not backward, we must go upward not forward. And always whirling, whirling, whirling towards sequels.

A prequel? That's only slightly better than canonized IT.

It'd be pretty boring playing a game I well know the answers to.

yes. there are all sorts of stories that could be told that don't have to relate to Shepard in any way and thus wouldn't be as affected by the end of the series

And this is why we had to move to Andromeda.

People simply can't (or won't) see the value of smaller-scale stories but with a tighter focus on characters. Just because we become Space Jesus and save the galaxy doesn't mean said galaxy doesn't have pockets of countless other people dealing with things that have nothing to do with the end of the world yet can still be just as interesting or meaningful, if not more.

Really, this just gives me another reason to be glad we did move. Now we see what your precious galaxy is worth.

You assume the new character won't become space Jesus for a new galaxy. This is Bioware, remember.

ME2 did have a focus closer to character in a smaller-scale story, and people complained about its... lack of plot or whatnot.

And I'd say Mass Effect, at least the core series, is about grand space adventures. I would love to see a smaller story focused on a single start system or maybe only a planet, but as a spin-off or something. I could never see ME'4' being something small.

I wouldn't mind seeing a smaller scale story in a ME prequel, in which the threat you face isn't some threat to the entire galaxy.....but is more local.  Expsecially if the eyes you see the story through is that of an alien.
