They wrote themselves into a corner in ME3 and decided to start with a new slate in another galaxy which means everyone can have their own interpretation of the ending.
Win-win.

A prequel would have been OK, if it was only a side thing and not the future potential for the whole series.
But I can also be entertained by the comics and see pretty much the same type of stories.
I'd preferred something that doesn't resort to ditching the established lore and setting.
For those that are unhappy with the fact that the new ME game is leaving the Milky Way galaxy, would you have preferred if Bioware had instead announced a prequel?
A prequel to say ME1 could give them the opportunity of revisting the Milky Way without dealing with the Reaper Invasion and the consquences of multiple endings of ME3.
A prequel could also give us more exploration to more unknown areas of the Milky Way, which at the time the game takes place, as not been explored that much.
Of course it should also star a completly new character (maybe an alien).
So what you have preferred a prequel to a sequel set in Andromeda? Or is moving into the future, into another galaxy, a better option then visting the past of the Milky Way?
After Andromeda is released, do you think a prequel should be next, to revist the Milky Way?
mmm No

This. I'd be cool if Andromeda was brought into the ME universe, but only if that doesn't mean giving up the universe we know and love already forever.
problem with a prequel is we know how that story ends.Because at the moment we totally don't know that we're going to save the day at the last minute.
Have you ever played a video game or watched a movie franchise? Then you know the ending to every story. The hero wins, the villains fails, the end
I almost never like prequels because they have no sense of urgency. I know how things are ultimately going to go.
