I normally just lurk, but I'll chime in on what i have read:

Regarding the Witcher:

There is violence against women, violence against men, violence against elves. It is a violent game. The most powerful, important, influential and intelligent characters are all female. Anyone describing the game as mysogynistic either didn't play it or was looking for it. In terms of depicted violence, for example, I would estimate that violence against male characters outweighs violence against female characters by an order of magnitude. It is, however, a masterpiece of writing and atmosphere and deals with adult themes without apology.

Regarding Dragon Age:

The OP is right, the game clearly sold well, new content is coming. EA spoke positively to their investors. That said, there is a new Star Wars film coming this year and clearly Star Wars related products will be the focus. It is no surprise that the next non Star Wars IP announced after that is Mass Effect - another Sci Fi title.

It is possible that the new Star Wars film trilogy will switch the bias of gaming to Sci Fi the way that Lord of the Rings trilogy pushed it to Fantasy a few years ago. That said, there is clearly a market for DA style games otherwise it wouldn't have sold well and there would not be more content planned.

I was referring to the game is not my fault if is called like the age , the age is obviously the same, but the atmosphere and the lore  are changed for my taste.
Super-Gotcha in return  ;)

The only one in being pathetic and childish  here is you, sorry needed to get that off my chest, but after months of persecution of my profile just to see my comments (each of them) only to thumbs up at every other user who use to quote my post for no reason whatsoever other than try to mock me
 apparently.

Yeah, hating a game for months is quite a pathetic way to wate time in this forum.

A voice of reason. Thank you.

It's laughable how many people are still playing that "mysogynistic" card, when its actually women who are mostly in places of power and respect in The Witcher. (and who are also bossing Geralt around. :P )

Also, did someone just took that Polygon article seriously or even used it as an actual argument?

The title of the game is misleading, this is not DA anymore is an hybrid of SKyrim(the scene between the dragon and the giant is such a copy/paste from Skyrim)

LOL, I don't think anyone who played both games would say that. Bioware was always big on story and companion relationships.

Skyrim has no companion relationships. Bethesda is also known for morbid comedy " Clavicus Vile, Sanguine and Sheogorath".

Ummm, DAI didn't deserve GOTY and the ONLY REASON why it won that many awards is due to the fact that 2014 was a Mediocre to crap year for gaming. My GOTY for 2014 was a remaster....the last of us.

Sales wise, ya it sold well at launch but we don't know the life sales. It probably will sell less overall than ME3 and DAO.

Interesting idea that this is all a part of some EA Master plan.  I mean Mass Effect is effectively Star Wars set in our galaxy....well sort of.

I'm sure DAI will outsell DAO's lifetime sales like ME3 did with its predecessors especially the latter has the worst ending of all videogames. It's like Neon Evangelion Genesis and LOST.

The ending of ME3 was expanded with the EC and was alright, better than DAI crap ending, IMO.

Didn't deserve GOTY? How do you figure that? Dutch's Ghost disliking a game doesn't disqualify a game from winning, last time I checked. If it's a bad year, that makes the GOTY title easier to win, yep. And also, duh.

Well sorry I said LOL, but the guy is wrong.

I played both games extensively. They are not even close. I'm a big fan of Skyrim and have enjoyed modding it extensively. There are plenty of games with the open world setup. Skyrim is a faction based game with no companion relationships.

Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning is closer to Skyrim. Most fans played Bioware because they love the story and relationships. Skyrim relationships are nonexistent. I actually love both games for completely different reasons.

Combat is different, and you only control your character.

Both games have different goals. The only similarity between the two is "open world" and Dragons. There are other games that have that as well.

Logic? On the internet!?

This long after a game's release you'll find those of us who liked it have run out of things to say. But the moaners never run out. Afterall, criticism is easier (and draws more response) than praise, and so sections like this one can get a bit full of the same old 'DAI sucks, no one bought it. TW3 rulez all' posts.

These people don't care that this game has fans; "because those fans are wrong and stupid"

These people don't care that it sold well or won GOTY; "because it was a slow year for games"

All these people care about is that the game was disappointing to them and they want everyone to know it. Over and over and over. Every forum has that person. I can still remember the username of 'that person' from the first forum I joined 13 years ago. It's difficult to forget the constant Buzzkill.

tumblr_inline_mt5jno9huf1rzpp2t.gif

Just be thankful that this forum has an ignore feature. Sure, some threads look a bit barren for me but I'd take that over seeing the same people making the same complaints 7 months on. Seven Freaking Months. I've never been that dedicated to moaning about anything, and I'm British. Moaning is our national pastime.

Happily, none of that conjecture is relevant because DAI has already sold well enough to justify more content being released. That is the only definite thing we know, alongside that it out sold all the previous Dragon Age and Mass Effect titles at launch.

Reminds me of this quote from destructoid:

"Remember when Dragon Age: Inqusition was a 9/10, 10/10 across the board followed by weeks of, "okay, well, in hindsight, maybe it's not that good."

Now, this is what I want to hear in a player review.  I think I just gotta play this game and judge for myself.

You can always sell me on good writing.  "a masterpiece of writing and atmosphere and deals with adult themes without apology"   since your a "lurker" just adds street cred to your opinion.

Regular unapologetic violence doesn't bother me.  I just don't like misogyny for misogyny's sake.  I read about the one scene where the guy beats his wife and your PC can be sympathetic to him for beating the crap out of her...but it's a player choice.

Yeah, think I'm going to give it a spin.  Who doesn't love a good RPG?  (It's rhetorical.)

You don't seem the type to throw around 'masterpiece of writing'.  Gotta check this out.  Now the real question...PC or console?

It looks like we're having a feast of good RPG's rolling out.

Ahhhh, it's good to be player!

PC version is a bit cheaper and has much more options for you (assuming you got a good set-up). You can even plug in a controller if you wish, the game fully supports controllers.

As for the writing, I agree with the previous post. The game's narrative angle is very clear: it wants to expose you to the issues and make you stare down the despicable nature of the people in the world. The franchise has a record of gray morality in it's writing, meaning that you will be second guessing yourself quite often and some people aren't capable of handling that. Dragon Age: Inquisition on the other hand, is not only different to the Witcher franchise, but also to it's older games because the game is now more about showing you an equal society where racism, homophobia, and other form of discriminatory hate virtually does not exist.

At it's most simplest: Dragon Age: Inquisition is more about living in a light hearted fantasy with very small doses of negativity to help highlight the good parts. The older Dragon Age games and the Witcher franchise is more about making you explore the human condition and exposing you to the most vile aspects of people.

P.S. I've met people who couldn't play the Witcher because they cannot get behind the idea that the protagonist is not a hero in shining armor. It is understandable to why. Different people seek different kind of tone in what they watch/play. Some people just simply do not have the stomach for it.

@ L. Han.

Hey thanks for the input!  ME isn't exactly grey, but if you go total renegade you can get that feel.

Sometimes it's quite fun to play an ignoble character.  Feels more real.  I'm a huge fan of Greco-Roman history.  Definitely can't have high morals and get behind either's culture for entertainment...Rome being the most crazed.

The grey makes sense with the company coming out of Eastern Europe though.  That area of the world has it's own feel.

Edit: Meant to say thanks for the info on the PC with the controller.  It is one of my fav ways to play;)

Very nice post. Thanks so much for explaining. I have to say I'm one of those people who don't want to play gray. The why is because it just doesn't feel right.

Now if someone wanted to show some inequalities, I'm okay with that as long as my character doesn't have to agree with it.

Somehow everyone praising TW3 and already wondering who would win Witcher 3 or Fallout 4. Not so much complaining. I have a lot of problems with DA:I main boring fetch quest is 80% of the game is makes it so I can't play. My witcher 3 play time is 73h. I enjoyed everything. In DA:I I get bored in hinterlands after 10h. So far my only complain witcher 3 graphics could be worse because I need to buy new GPU everything else perfect.
