So with pretty much every game site having a ton of sales right now I figure now is a good time to ask.  Are there any good RPG's out there where you can build and/or upgrade a player base/home/castle?

The games I already know about and have are:

-Divinity II (the tower)

-Elder Scroll Series (mostly mods)

-Fallout series (again, really just mods)
-Fable

-Kingdoms of Amalur (Dead Kel DLC)

I have DA:I too and no way do those 'upgrades' count as base building, haha.

As for pirate games I have zero idea and none in my library.  I only really see one that has decent reviews: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. So any suggestions would be great!

Thanks in advance!

It seems you can't be satisfied with games, because "mods".

Probably the best pirate game out there is Assassin's Creed IV though.

Neverwinter Nights 2 has a very impressive Stronghold/Keep building portion. Though I'm not sure I'd class the Original Campaign as anything more than average.

Pillars of Eternity also has an upgradeable Keep but it's not all that special. The Keep I mean, Pillars as a whole is fairly good and worth a playthrough.

Dead State is centered around exploring a zombie infested Texas using an upgradeable school as a base of operation. Haven't played it enough to make heads or tails of the game though.

As for pirate games, Sid Meier's: Pirates is quite fun. And in a similar vein, there's bound to be Mount and Blade mods out there that focus on the Age of Piracy. You could also try Risen 2/3. Have Risen 3 on my playlist though so I can let you know how that goes if I ever get around to playing it.

Pfffft.

The Sims.

Build an obscure house and fill it with a crazy woman and eighteen billions cats. Watch her terrorize the neighborhood. Have her starve on the toilet.

Sims is a cruel game, and only five billion dollars with all the DLC.

---------------

But yeah, I'd say the Sims partially counts. Otherwise I can't think of anything on the RPG front.

Build the Hotel California, guests check in, but they never leave.

It's been years since I played The Sims 3. It seems I haven't realized its potential. I need to reinstall it soon!

Sims 2 Ultimate Edition was free on Origin one time. It's probably the best of The Sims games.

Sid Meier's Pirates! (2004) is still the best true pirate game to this day as far as I know. If you haven't played it, I'd recommend it: https://en.wikipedia...004_video_game)

Assassin's Creed IV is surprisingly good. I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. Right now, that's probably your best bet for a good pirate game.

I agree that IV is great. I'd also say that Assassin's Creed: Rogue has some really good Naval battles as well, although the pirate theme has been dropped.

Are there any good RPG's out there where you can build and/or upgrade a player base/home/castle?

This is my favorite thing in games but unfortunately it's really rare.

I can't really think of much to add to your list:

Mount & Blade: Warband - some mods allow for this sort of thing as well as economic growth.

Legend of Mana has a home base that doesn't really upgrade but facilities get unlocked as you progress.

Crusader Kings II - there are mods like Personal Castle and Magnate Lords that let you build different upgrades. Of course you don't actually see them, but CK2 is as much of an RPG as your imagination allows.

Assassin's Creed 2, 3, 4 - each game has a town that you upgrade. 4 also fits your requirement for a pirate game and you also upgrade your ship in addition to your town.

The Sims seems to fit that quota. Get some gun mods and shoot the paper boy every morning.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! A lot of interesting ideas I never thought of and I appreciate the tips!

Thanks for the info about Assassins Creed. I had no idea the series had a town upgrade. I always just assumed it was a renaissance style version of the Hitman games. Seems from everyone's suggestion Black Flag is the way to go.

With so many games on sale I might just get a bunch and slowly make my way through a new playlist!

Quick question. I see Black Flag has a lot of DLC, is any of it worth getting?

I absolutely was nuts over Uncharted Waters: New Horizons back in the day for a pirate game. You can get the SNES emulator for it free, or you can try and find a copy of the (slightly better) PC version. It hasn't aged great, but its not terrible either if you have any experience with SNES games.

No stronghold/base building, but you DO get to build a fleet, explore the world, fight pirate battles, trade goods for money and have six different characters to play that all have unique stories and strengths. If you can make it through five hours of how old the game is, you can easily sink a hundred hours into it. If that makes any sense.

I've gone as far back as the first NES with emulators so SNES is fine too! When I started gaming my dad gave me a NES to start with, it wasn't until years later I realized I wasn't even born yet when the NES came out!

Now whenever I get a new computer one of the first things I do is put an NES and SNES emulator in my game folder.

Thank you for the suggestion!

It would be extremely good, if all toilets have bidet.

First wash your crappy butts, then use Toilet paper.

Awesome. It's one of my all-time favorites. It has a very simple concept and is fairly easy, especially if you stay on your character's main story. However, once you understand the mechanics and really figure out how it all works, you can do amazing things, like take over the world (in a number of time consuming yet delightful ways) or build the world's first iron clad ship over a hundred years before it should have been.

My favorite is Ali Vezas - his story is pretty cool, he plays as the only Muslim and Middle Easterner (religion doesn't play a HUGE part in the game, but nationality can have some very interesting ramifications), but mostly he is the character with his entire main story revolving around being a trader. Lots of fun building your fortunes up over time and going from destitute orphan to wealthy beyond compare.
