This is how I would have done Kai Leng.

Make him a squaddie of ours in ME2.

After The Suicide Mission he remains with Cerberus.  Now we have to kill a former ally.

The trouble I can see with this is that he would have to have a predetermined role during the mission so that he's guaranteed to survive no matter who Shepard chose to do what. I imagine his loyalty mission, provided he'd even have one, would be kind of a waste of time then since loyalty would not be a factor in his survival or in his involvement in the next game. I'd say that overall a better role for him would be to at least be an important NPC throughout ME2 so that he's at least a character players are familiar with before he becomes a straight up villain, without reading the stupid books.

That would have made more sense if Cerberus were more about pragmatism than the Chaotic!Evil caricature they were made into.

But they always were a chaotic evil caricature.

To be honest, their experiments in ME1 didn't seem all that ridiculous. Sending soldiers into a thresher pit to see its effects and experimenting on dangerous plant life and an insectoid species seems like something I can imagine our present day governments doing. Heck, the salarians were doing it before humans were even a spacefaring species. Killing Kahoku for nosing into it? I wouldn't put it past them either.

To me, it didn't start getting ridiculous until ME2, where David Archer just had to be put into some kind of technobondage torture crucifixion machine just to interface with the geth. The husk thing in ME3 is pretty awful, but it's interesting that beyond the Crucible, no one has any real plans to dealing with the galactic threat. I don't want to go all Massively and say that what they were doing in ME3 was somehow a good thing, but it does raise the question as to what people might do if enough pressure was put on them.

I want this to be another Mass Effect. I want this to be a DETAIL FOCUSED, character-based story that is CONSISTENT with the codex from the first game, whose writers double check with the various Mass Effect wikis and previously written game and background details about how things work.

I want Mass Effect writers who have actually played through the entire trilogy. I want Mass Effect writers and artists who pay attention to the details and don't make crap up on the fly. I want dialog that's written by people who understand that characters grandstanding and spouting vaguely philosophical generalities is a terrible way to tell a story.

I want writers who understand how to properly use foreshadowing without beating us over the head with the thing being foreshadowed. I want details to be introduced early, long before they become directly relevant to the plot.

I don't want drama for the sake of drama. I don't want cinematics for the sake of cinematics. I don't want stories to be driven by "what looks cool", I want them to be driven by *the details of the story and its characters*.

The only major one I have at the moment is that it will follow in Dragon Age: Inquisition's footsteps, with more emphasis being put on exploration than story. With DA:I it felt as if they had created a game world that was much larger than the amount of interesting content they could fill it with. While it looked beautiful, long stretches of the game were filled with rather dull and uninteresting side content. Some of it, such as the shard hunting, seemed like filler.

I could not have said it better myself. I never finished the DA:I collections because it was a complete drag. I can only assume ME:A will expand on the list of meaningless things to do.

Reminder: insignias, medallians, writings, data discs, minerals, etc. etc.

If they do some of these optional fetch quests, are they copying Inquisition or staying true to the legacy of ME1?

My biggest concern is that Mass Effect Andromeda will be too much like the previous Mass Effect games instead of something a little more innovative and fresh.

Every novelty becomes old eventually, especially when it is a mindless repetition of a meaningless task.

And in DA:I the problem was not just the collection, but in almost everything that was not the main quest.

Can't say I agree. There was some filler, sure, but there was also a lot of solid side-quests and side-content.

Even more if you don't consider the personal missions for the companions as the "main quest"

A lot of the personal missions were way too short though

Ugly chicks and the story not meshing with the mass effect vibe. Other considerations are if they have a multiplayer aspect, no please, or if the realism has not improved. If there are no long hairstyles, if the gameplay has altered much, if the characters aren't fleshed out, et cetera.

Not enough, given the size of the setting.  Some places like Exalted Plains felt downright empty even with the content it provided.

My number one concern?

Repeating the same mistakes that ruined ME3.

E.G. Introducing an omniscient character in the last ten minutes to explain things that don't need explaining.

Also, Endingtron 9000. No more push-button endings, for the love of all that is holy.

I agree... unless said button will propell a high velocity slug at relativistic velocities towards the big bad's cranial area.

Shooting bad guys with pistols never goes wrong!

Touche.

Here's another example of an acceptable ending that involves pushing a button.
