Though I've never been particularly good at keeping careful track of who specifically is doing what. I've read that Bethesda Game Studios is a slightly different thing from Bethesda Softworks (I think it was Softworks, anyway) but I haven't the faintest notion whether that's true or what that really means.

I don't know the details of the relationship but Bethesda Softworks is the publishing side of things and Bethesda Game Studios is a development studio. The normal Elder Scrolls were developed and published by Bethesda while Online was just published by Bethesda and developed by someone else. Similarly Dishonored was developed by Arkane and published by the Bethesda.

They don't make much of a point of distinguishing when it's just the publishing arm though. Also Bethesda is owned by ZeniMax Media, so it gets murkier.

Clearly, I should have done research before I made my purchase...or at least, read the whole box. I may have just assumed that Bethesda was the one at the controls.

Well Bethesda Game Studios did help Zenimax Online with the lore and they were smart enough to set it 2500 years before the story of Morrowind happens. It just took away some stuff that makes Elder Scrolls what it is, freedom most importantly. Bethesda Softworks publishes for Bethesda Game studios, both are owned by a company called Zenimax Media though, it is confusing.

You seem more interested in making me out to be some angry little troll rather than acknowledging any of the excessive things - on either side.

Indeed, it's as though you see into the very heart of me. These supposed "excesses" are people casually chatting about their hopes, which is what I humbly understand to be one of the intended purposes of a gaming forum, especially this far before release when our hopes are one of the only things to discuss.

What's more, I happen to adore this sort of discussion, which is why I often make wish list threads. I find them fun. In contrast, I find your open disapproval and disdain towards them dull and petulant.

I'd rather have gender neutral animations, and keep animations from the previous ME games. DA female animations were horrid, when playing a female in DA the animations would kill role-playing for me. I created a bad-ass two handed warrior, whom walked and ran as if her hips were broken. I don't like playing feminine female characters. When I play a female I want her to be epic and strong, like Brienne of Tharth from Game of Thrones now that's a woman!!  <3

So I would love the return of femshep manspreading, because femshep was a BOSS.

Okay, I think I understand a little better now.

Corporate murkiness, I swear. I work for one of those companies, where none of us on the ground floor feel entirely confident that we know who's making the decisions or whether we'll be informed of them promptly when they do. They decided to rename the in company term for one of our wine labels, and people from corporate are coming into the tasting room asking for that wine by it's new designation, and we're all, "Sorry, what?"

I hope Bethesda still releases follow up installments that are designed like their previous ones. I only played Skyrim, but it all but consumed my free time for a couple of months.

I'd like subdued animations, ideally different sets for the two genders but at the least animations which don't involve either walking foot in front of foot or knees out at right angles.

Unless they're suddenly struck by a terrible case of originality and artistic integrity I can't see them passing on Elder Scroll's sales figures and familiar environment.

It's not the greatest of quality, but for those who missed the comic con panel they did show off the armour design of the protagonist. Both male(red) and female(blue):

Spoiler

They also did mention that the female outfit not being hyper sexualized is something they're looking at extending to the casual wear.

Ah, there they are. Those are cool, but not what I'm hoping for.

One thing I don't think Bioware does very well is balance. I'm mildly concerned that the casual wear "not being hyper sexualized" might mean that there aren't any feminine options available to the player character.

I'm not really bothered. :P The more discussion about this, the better as far as I'm concerned. That post was me trying to bump this thread more than anything.

I always wear the best looking armor. I can't look at an ugly character. Stats be damned.

yeah I tend to as well at least on DAI. Not so much on the others though. I think that's becauuse the DAI ones look a lot more like proper outfits you might wear at least to me. I can't say that about the armours on some of the other games though. They look good but not overly brilliant. They've definetely made a good step forward by choosing to use the Frostbite engine they just need to get and try to learn to use all of it's capabilties now

I actually quite like the design, and they have of course mentioned there will be customization.

To be honest I think ME3 did a decent job of the casual wear, especially if you had the collector's edition N7 hoodie if you wanted the "gender neutral" style. I think the dress looked silly for femshep, but not because of sexualization.

I don't prioritize gender neutrality at all, personally. I completely understand people wanting it, but I'm rather hoping for there to still be a dress option.

I tend to think they should just provide options for both. Especially for something like casual wear that's just being worn around the ship.

There's a problem that feminine often gets confused with ridiculous designs. The reaction is to go completely neutral, which while what a lot of people want fails to explore other sides of the concept.

Though I'm convinced that dresses in a setting with a heavy use of artificial gravity is a terrible idea.

You think the franchise has run it's course?

No, I mostly just meant that it was selling well and appears to be what they want to make. I'm not a fan of the series, but I don't mind developers iterating on long running franchises either.

I totally agree this way it'll benefit everyone not just a certain group of people. From going to battle with full blown armor or just fighting with catsuits and lingerie. :D

That's one of the reasons I've not purchased / played DAI. After watching Hawke swing her pendulum pelvis all over Kirkwall, I just couldn't do it again.

I've always advocated for gender neutral animations. Using neutral animations in the cutscenes would save a lot of resources and shouldn't be *too* immersion breaking for anyone.

I'd be okay with gender-specific walk / run animations (outside of cutscenes) so long as they're not so extremely exaggerated as the female animations in DA2 & DAI. My ideal would be for them to provide moderately feminine and moderately masculine walk / run animations, closer to neutral than the extreme ends of the spectrum, and then let players choose which one they would prefer, regardless of PC sex.

well lets just ask them to give them that option but the same way there is people that want a women to walk less feminine there's people that would want her to run or strut feminine too. The fact is that people will never be satisfied and if you wont play with a character just because she runs in such way then you will have a lot of problems with some games.

You're right - I had a lot of problems with Hawke, so I chose to avoid the Inquisitor. DA2 was the first game I've ever played where a character had an animation so very off-putting to me that I simply couldn't relate. It is not a natural gait, but a walk specifically used to attract sexual attention. There's a time and place for that sort of thing, and it isn't on a battlefield or while trying to chase down some antagonist. And - nobody runs like that. It's anatomically impossible.

My experience with DA2 made me a lot more aware of walk animations in games, and since then, I always check them out before I consider making a purchase.

But i understand you because if i make a bad ass character i don't want her to walk like she is skipping on a rose garden. I wish they gave us an option to change that because if we like it or not the way some one walks can tell us a lot about their personality or the way they are.

Hmm. This is where I feel like I'm in the minority. I'm not necessarily attached to FemHawke's hip swinging, but I didn't have a problem with it either, and I rather liked some of her idle poses.

I actually take some issue with the perception that stereotypically feminine behaviors/movements/dress are incompatible with badassery. I'd like to see more of that in conjunction.

Or potentially, the option to have that in conjunction. I don't want it to be forced on people.

Well it isn't just stereotypes, it's actually the truth most females or girly girls walk some sort away and macho girls walk differently but doesn't mean they aren't bad ass because they're more feminine. Take a look at catwoman, she is badass at every way and she is more femimine then most girls in a game. :P
