This has been more informative than the trailer. :D

Although we kind of did need the title to pull this off.

Well, we knew Andromeda was involved long before the trailer due to information being out on the net. :P

True, I remember the leak kind of spoiled us with info. Hoping they'll release some more info at comic-con, I love all the speculation and investigation that goes on here whenever a new game is announced.

I'm fine with them giving info at their own pace. I'm content with the public reveal. For now we can look at the real Andromeda and theorize.

@LPPrince:  I think the problem with exploring those planets is that, for the current situation of the explorers... those planets would be anathema to supporting life so it would really be counter productive for anyone that wants to survive to expend resources exploring them at this juncture.

Planets with more than one moon are even a huge problem as our own system is tidally locked because of our singular, very special, moon.

Of course, they can ignore actual science and just go Star Wars and have planets be fantastical and still function (and I'd prefer if they did)... but the real universe supports life on a razor's edge.

Assuming in-game Andromeda has planets like those in the 10 Strange Planets video I don't think they'll be designed to act quite like the real things.

Or if they do, there'll be some way to get around it so you can still be there like how Mass Effect 2 handled the Shadow Broker's location.

The leak was strong, but we never knew for sure. I'm glad we got the title and final confirmation, endless debating when/where it will take place and whether the leak/speculations were real was boring.

And now those that know little about the Andromeda Galaxy can do a bit of research. :)

The eventual romance encounter

We will avoid it by jumping to the tiny galaxy nearby  :P

Ahh yes, Triangulum. I think we won't tho!

Andromeda is the largest spiral galaxy in the local group, the biggest of the three, the other two being Triangulum and Milky Way. Sizewise if Milky Way is the middle brother, then Triangulum would be the little brother and Andromeda would be the big brother. There lots of smaller galaxies too, I think theres 40 or something total, not sure about the exact number around the local space. All of us belong to the Virgo supercluster which is made of thousands of galaxies.

Dont know many scifi taking place in Andromeda. Galaxy Express 999 scifi anime had a train going from Milky Way to Andromeda, thats all ive seen. Wasnt there some scifi show named Andromeda too starring that Hercules actor, who ever it was?

Andromeda was a series, yes. I haven't watched it though.

I watched a few episodes. It wasn't terrible to me, just pointless. It was basically Hercules in space.

A little article about the halo ring surrounding Andromeda.

http://www.space.com...an-thought.html

I don't have a clue if it'll have any involvement in this game or a following one.

Oh, forgot to mention.

The Andromeda of Greek Mythos? Her name means, "Ruler of men".

Whether that'll mean anything for the game I have no clue. hahaha

random facts off the top of my head - it's 3am, don't believe them all!

regarding andromeda's halo - yes it reaches halfway to our galaxy, but we have one too that goes the other half-way. this is a common feature of galaxies, and in fact it's something we have trouble explaining. spiral galaxies like MW and M31 have stars in a very very flat disk, around 100k lightyears (ly) in diameter and only <1k ly thick. however the dark matter (DM), which makes up ~90% of the mass, is actually distributed spherically, and there isn't any more of it in the disk than outside it - in fact there might be less. this is weird because we're assuming DM interacts gravitationally, so it should be more attracted by the disk in the middle. huh.

regarding what someone said about visiting the center of andromeda and the black hole there - this would be cool except that they already had the opportunity to do it in the first 3 games and didn't (we have just as much of a black hole in our galaxy). when you discover that the collector base is near the center of the galaxy in ME2, someone says that it's impossible, since the center of the galaxy is "all exploding stars and black holes" and therefore impossible to live in. while this is completely not true, i feel as though they might stick with that reasoning. however, black holes exist throughout the galaxy, not just in the center, so they could still do a final battle near a stellar-mass black hole without leaving the helios cluster.

regarding exoplanets, i think they had great variety in the previous games and they were pretty consistent with actual exoplanet research/discoveries, so i'm not worried on that front. maybe they could do more environmental effects - i don't remember much besides the one planet where the solar radiation would strip your shields - how about one with an abnormally strong magnetic field, that actually curves all bullets east? or one with lakes of eezo that do.. weird.. eezo space magic stuff? or one with very fast rotation, so that it changes from day to night like every 5 min? how about two asteroids orbiting very close around one another, so you can jump from one to the other? ofc you can have all the usual suspects - blizzard conditions that make you slow and reduce visibility, corrosive atmosphere a la Venus that wrecks your armor, ongoing volcanic eruption etc.

This is already confirmed(well, confirmed with what little information we believe we have);there's a race that lives in Andromeda that doesn't like the fact the Milky Way races showed up and are fighting against it.

Regarding the halo rings, they're basically invisible so they're just an interesting detail really.

As for the center of Andromeda, I'm not worried about visiting it at any point. I'm more interested in the Helios Cluster and whats within it.

And as for exoplanet variety, I hope they don't just rely on the usual blizzard here, volcanoes there, etc etc. They can go crazy and I hope they do.

I doubt we'll do anything quite like the Reapers did, but fighting back against the races of another galaxy entering yours is something that I think makes a bit of sense.

Good chance of more information coming in about the game later in the year for the Game Awards. Maybe not much, but its a hunch.

I think it'd be good if there was a trailer of some sort to kinda show off the Andromeda Galaxy for the game.

Great thread. Love astronomy.

That is one thing I'll really miss in ME though. With the previous games in the Milky Way, we were able to visit places we know, like certain stars or nebulae. In Andromeda, everything is going to be fictional. :(

Maybe it'll convince the US government to let NASA have more than half a cent out of every dollar so they can afford to do more with Andromeda!

HAHA, AHAHAHA, yeah I know dreams.
