Could both Jade Empire and Dragon Age exist in the same world?

The known world in Dragon Age is just one continent with some small islands surrounding it. The map we played in Jade Empire was also incomplete. I was thinking, since both games are set in a medieval fantasy, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to have them both exist in the same world. Lore wise it could be a challenge, but think of how awesome it would be.

I can see a problem when it comes to the magic in both games, but the Jade Empire having more advanced technology wouldn't really be a problem. It is stated in Dragon Age lore that the Qunari have much more advanced technology that the rest of Thedas, plus their homeland is still unknown.

Maybe I'm asking for too much, but hey I can dream can't I. What do you guys think?

Or...maybe just give us Jade Empire 2! That sounds like a wonderful idea, right Bioware?

No mmo based on a single player rpg series is ever awesome. Usually it is what kills a franchise.

True, and Bioware doesn't have the best track record when it comes to MMOs. But I didn't say the game has to an MMO, it was just a suggestion. I'm more than happy to keep it single-player.

I do love me some Jade empire and really want a follow up. Don't think that universe meshes well with DA though. Magic seems to work on different principles in each, not to mention the divine forces influencing the world being very real in JE while DA only leaving the possibility open. JE also seems a bit ahead technologically speaking, with fliers and guns existing in universe.

A new Jade Empire would be nice, but no... not in DA, especially since we did have a glimpse of a 'westerner' in JE and nothing like anything in Dragon Age.

It'd take a lot of convincing on the devs part to get me to reasonably 'allow' the two worlds to mesh nicely ('allow'...not put up a fuss on the incongruities, and what not :P obviously not in charge of that decision)

Have you given any thoughts to how the magic aspects might connect? I've only just started playing JE, but the usage of the magic seems very different already from how it's presented in DA.

I would be curious to see how Bioware implements a culture based off of an existing Asian one, were they to do so in future DA games. It may be that whatever fictional people they come up will be similar to those in JE, though with the universe-obeying differences in place.

I adore the DA series, and so far I'm having a blast with JE. I'd enjoy seeing either one continue, and hey, if they said they were combining the worlds...I'd check it out.

I'd love to see a JE cameo or easter egg in future DA DLC's or expansions, maybe in a similar vein to "Sir Roderick Ponce Von Fontlebottom the Magnificent Bastard",

And honestly who couldn't look at that guy and say he was obviously Orlesian!!!

Neverwinter Nights did rather well, SWoToR is the one that's a crapshoot.

Neverwinter MMO... good? O.O

No... please leave your taste card at the door. Unless if you're referring to the coop aspect of Neverwinter Nights, that's not an MMO.

Scale it back to 2002 when NWN from Bioware/Atari came out and 96 people on an individual server is into MMO territory, I mean very few people probably played on max cap servers but it was still possible. I wasn't going as far back as the AOL NWN from '91 to '97, nor was I referring to the 'new' Neverwinter from Hasbro/Arc that's been going through the motions on PC and  cropping up on the consoles using 4E. 4E which 100% should be a game on a PC because no one really wants to deal with 50+ power cards for a single class irl. That one is a mad dash for dollars from people that can't get a real table top group.

If only the new ip they're working on was a Jade Empire sequel.

One can hope, I was honestly hoping that EA bought up Kingdoms of Amalur when 38 Studios went up and let someone have it but I'm also hoping that if it didn't get picked up that it doesn't make a horrendous return in the far future like poor Duke did .

Lets hope that if there is a Jade Empire sequel on the horizon that enough of the original team is around that it doesn't get the glitz treatment because it doesn't need it.

I wouldn't say no to a Jade Empire follow up. In my dreams, the new IP turns out to be a spiritual successor.

Lore wise, they don't really mesh though.

My original answer for all the problems with crossovers between Bioware IP actually hitches on one of the most hated characters within any of their universes: The Star Child

What if all of the Bioware IPs are just toys in a kid's toy chest? Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Jade Empire; even the IPs they don't own can fit because every guy my age had at least one Star Wars figure. The reason for the 'Harvest' isn't really so sinister when you think about it being when Mom forces the kid to donate the toys he's no longer playing with to Good Will.........

How likely is it that Sandal is Star Child's DA incarnation? Just throwing it out there.
Is screwoffreg still around?

Is JE historically interesting, too? I think I might want to play it if so. Ancient China is kind of my hobbyhorse.

JE would be a pretty easy 'different' type of game for them to work with. I'm not sure I could name more than a small handful of games inspired by Asian cultures. That being said, would there be a licensing issue with Legacy, or was that swallowed up by EA/Bioware? JE's forum is under that group, rather than its own heading.

But a mention of the Qunari's use of technology was brought up. While I think there's similarity in that both factions display high technical skills for the alleged time periods, I'm not certain I see a whole lot of overlap otherwise...but maybe I am missing something? Happy to be informed if so.

Its not really historical in nature other than following loosely with some Chinese myths, they took quite a few liberties with it. I enjoyed it greatly because I had fun with the various kinds of martial arts combat even when they were closer to the overdubbed Asian action movies in nature.

If Jade Empire 2 isn't going to happen, I at least want lots of cameos and references to the original in future Bioware games. But we all know Jade Empire 2 is going to happen :D  That is an indisputable fact...isn't that right Bioware?  <_<

The devs named the Chinese classics as well as Barry Hughart's Bridge of Birds as some of the inspirations for Jade Empire.
