So do you think we'll have the same six classes?

Wouldn't it make more sense to be able to buy different types of omni-shields and use them as an additional weapon than make an entirely new class for them?

Sure, why not. I just like the omni-shield better than the other tools, like the crossbow. And we don't have a real tank class anyway, so perhaps a combination of tech armor and omni-shield.

I'd like to see a medic class, more characters per class to choose from like in MP and a freely customizable character (selectable powers) as reward for finishing NG+ while unlocking a difficulty comparable to Platinum in MP

A field Medic would be awesome !!!

Engineer could have Turrets and mines and awesome toys beside 2 holo floating balls . Mind you I loved Engineer , but wish it was much more...

As long as I can still toss fools around with my mind.

lol I agree and I hope they improve upon that I want to be able to drag an enemy behind me while I talk and toss them around like a rag doll.

Difficulties that are unlocks suck, imo its much better to just let players have a go at them directly instead of forcing us to go through what we perceive as easy mode before getting somewhat challenged.

Biotics are a pretty big staple of the Mass Effect universe so I definitely anticipate them making a return. Vanguard Charge is a personal favorite of mine so I'd like to see it make a return. The jet pack the "not the main character" is shown using in the trailer, while cool, worries me a bit. I would imagine that thruster/jet pack would be a soldier type ability. I hope that we don't have that "everyone is turned into a solider during cutscenes" type thing again but more on that later.

Despite the catastrophe that was ME3's ending, I trust the developers to come up with something new and exciting as far as classes are concerned. I was happy with the progressions the classes made from ME1 to ME3. I've always said give me ME1's story with ME2's characters and ME3's gameplay and you have the perfect video game. ME3 did such a good job with class balance that they were all relevant and fun to play (Vanguard will always be the best ;) ) So with that being said, I don't much care what they are called or the abilities assigned to each as long as they are all relevant and balanced.

As mentioned above, one major change that I would insist they make from the original 3 games is that the class you choose actually means something in the game. Other than Liara's one line of dialog when she comes to discuss her vigil plan there is no acknowledgement of it really. For example, imagine how cool and different the sniping outing you have with Garrus in ME3 would have been as an Infiltrator as opposed to an Adept. Not to mention I grew really tired of my Vanguard carrying around a Avenger Assault Rifle in every damn cut scene.

Anyway, that is what I'm hoping for as far as classes go.

Streamlining how though? Mass Effect 2 was the most stripped down version of the three games. I can't imagine how it would get any simpler than that was.

Anyways, I need my melee range destroyer Vanguard. Whatever they do, I must be able to charge in and kill everyone within arm's length.

I don't mind the name of my class as long as I have incinerate (or any armor damaging power), overload (or any shield damaging power) and a drone/turret (preferably both)

As the above posters noted, it seems unlikely they would make changes to the current classes as drastic as, say, removing one of them entirely (because if the Vanguard gets cut, I will most certainly go nuclear on something. Also, PREORDER CANCELLED HRRRRNGH). But I think that it would benefit from the ME3MP experience in terms of changing things up, as regards abilities and their variety with respect the individual classes, for example giving you a choice of powers previously unavailable for the class (biotic bubbles have been mentioned).

Personally, I can conceive of something like a wider - branching skill tree for each class, where at certain level mark, an adept, for example, would be given a choice between getting the barrier power or the biotic bubble, but would not be allowed to have both (just an illustrative example, folks). Ultimately, you would end up with two different characters, both technically being an Adept in class, but having different sets of abilities and powers.

There are two things I think they should do:

1. Introduce two new classes: a ranged biotic/combat hybrid and a cqc tech/combat hybrid. In my head I call these 'ranger' and 'sapper' respectively. Just adds more flexibility.

2. Allow some choice among the lower-tier powers, still limited by class. e.g. Let a vanguard choose throw instead of pull, or let an infiltrator choose sabotage instead of incinerate.

They could easily add a new class or two based on some of the MP characters' general designs. I've always liked the N7 Destroyer.

I'd love if Vanguard had throw. I never used pull against anything but guardians and my N7 Crusader was more fun against them.

I want a melee class that cloaks. Two sai's with a cloak. Or a staff similar to the Electrostaff from Star Wars.

Imagine, BioWare community: I am there cloaked. A hostile is approaching. All of a sudden... bam it is knocked back. I de-cloak and preced to beat the hostile senselessly with my staff.

I have seen Infiltrator builds that use shotguns and melee attacks.  The point is get in close, then shotty+melee... I forget the name of the guy that started that build but it was similar to a vanguard playstyle just without the charge..

But I see what you're saying you want purely melee with cloaking ability..  Like the sith assassin from SWTOR.

They could add specializations to the classes to fit the needs of the game, and these don't have to be hard focused,

I'll call them

Self, power, and weapon based specializations

the former is your close range and melee focused playstyle, your backstab infiltrator, vanguard, and general beet people to death with your bare hands builds.

Power focused is just that, going for the optimization of using abilities, and weapon spec would be the good old shoot people in the face until they go away route.

I didn't realise I want shield for myself until I met those cerberus guys. I guess it can be done as Infiltrator (ugh, that sounds wrong, let's say tech/combat) specialization. Besides shield isn't so far into fantasy land, since a lot of modern special forces have ballistic shields.

As mentioned above, one major change that I would insist they make from the original 3 games is that the class you choose actually means something in the game. That bugged me a lot as well, and many people were asking for some class attention since ME1. Still not a thing, so don't get your hopes on this.

I'd say give every class one char for every damage type and/or playstyle, i.e. the Inflitrator class has a biotic, a tech and a melee based char and you can pick the one that fits your playstyle and your team.

Hmm for adding new classes i think they should introduce a new spec "tree".

In ME1,2,3 we had the weapon spec, the tech spec, and the mind power spec each one had a pure class and a hybrid class with another tree.

As you can see if you wanna introduce new class you need to add a new tree of talents, something in line with science/biology/medic?

Drone/Turret instead of ME3 Sabotage? Are you mad?

Sabotage was the best Engineer power in ME3!

If it were up to me I'd love to see a more RPGish open ended system, but I understand why they most certainly will keep the classes around.

I'm just hoping they add more of them, or just bring the sub-classes (Shock Trooper, Operative, Bastion, Medic...) back.

My suspicion is that they'll keep the six classes around, but only as broad categories, and individual builds within those classes are going to be able to recreate pretty much every single one of the multiplayer characters that match a playable race.  Have the skill trees truly branch instead of just being a list of pairs of choices and that should be doable, especially if some of the skill selections can have side-effects like "can't dodge anymore".

(Do we know whether or not the main character's race will be selectable?  I can't recall hearing.)

If they were going to add one more class, I think it'd be a triple-hybrid, weaker at both tech and biotics than the Sentinel but stronger at combat.  They'd never be great at anything, but they'd never be completely lost either.  (Maybe their "specialty" is setting off their own combos, which they have to master in order to not be underpowered?)

Soldier - Jetback (easiest use during combat so its a frequent skill?)

Adept - Biotic self lift

Tech - Mass effect powered armor for short term boost

I will admit one thing I really liked about ME1 was the cool specialization at the end. RPGs are about choices, and for me the RP aspects and gameplay aspects always come together for a specialization.
