I never understood where the idea that they were remastering anything came from to begin with.

Aaryn Flynn asked NeoGAF what they'd like to see out of a hypothetical ME remastering. And studios are remastering a lot of stuff right now, from Tomb Raider and The Last of Us to Uncharted and Gears of War. It's a logical deduction.

People keep forgetting that remasters can (and often are) made by external companies or are outsourced elsewhere. Too lazy to look up which games exactly but I'm sure they would have made their money back using an external company to do the remastering. The whole "we prefer to concentrate our resources on new games" excuse doesn't hold up.

Meanwhile aren't we all excited for the new Madden game? I'm sure that makes up everything. We haven't gotten one since like... last year.

I thought the excuse was more like "we don't think this will make enough money to be worth doing."

Oh that's right, completely forgot about that.

Why the hell do you guys want a remastered version of ME? That game doesn't need to be remasterd. Why would they waste time and money with that? Games like Legacy of Kain series need to be remasterd, not ME. I think we should let them work on the new game, so "we" don't get mad at them for delivering a "rushed" game. Less QQ, more PEW PEW.

I don't get why people want to pay full price for a game they already played 8 years ago, with better graphics.

Just buy the PC version and install a HD texture pack.

I think that question is similar to the VHS vs DVD, and now DVD vs Bluray question. Do you upgrade your collection for slightly better graphics? I certainly fall within the group that prefer my favorite movies in the highest quality possible. So the same goes for games.

Other reasons for wanting a remaster include being able to get every piece of DLC. Even if people were to buy ME 1, 2, and 3 today, they'd still need to shell out a ton more money just to get all the available DLC as I believe the trilogy pack doesn't include every DLC. Not to mention all those retailer-specific DLC. A remaster would be the perfect chance to have EVERYTHING, all with better graphics and improved gameplay.

A remaster would also be the chance to make Kaidan romanceable by male Shepard from ME1, since in ME3, there are recorded lines by Male Shepard for an imported romance with Kaidan and that are only accessible by importing a modded ME2 game file (naturally only possible on PC).

As well as introducing a new group of people to these games. The reasons are many.

What is with this obsession with remasters?  They didn't remaster every bloody Xbox and PS2 game when the 360 and PS3 came out, but now everybody wants the games they already own to be made again, I just don't see the point.

A waste of time for the developers to go back and do all three games, at the same time of course because fans won't accept one game at a time, no no no, ALL THREE GAMES NOW BIOWARE GET TO IT.

What does remastering a game actually get us fans?  No single player DLC for GTA 5 because Rockstar was too busy wasting time porting their game to the new consoles?  Exactly what fans wanted.  To pay 60 bucks for a game and then go pay for it again at an even higher price, instead of new and fresh content.

If I want to play Mass Effect again, well I just click the icon on my computer.  Why would I pay for a new version?

This is you assuming.  The trilogy pack came out post Citadel in the release cycle.  If they wanted to release all the DLC in that pack, EA would have.  Assuming EA is going to give you free DLC if they remaster the trilogy is a laugh.

Might not also realize that these remastered games are going for full price on the current gen, so trilogy pack + DLC, you're looking at 150 dollars, easily.

Well, I only upgraded to DVD because VHS went obsolete and couldn't be found. I still have not re-bought everything in Blu-ray. These days I rarely even use physical formats.

Having all the DLC is nice, but then I'd have said that the trilogy pack should have contained all the DLC too. There's no real guarantee that it will have all the DLC or restore cut content.

It might introduce new players, but I was wondering why existing fans would want to pay full price for the same game they played 8 years ago but with shinier graphics.

Again, if EA wanted to do that, they could do that without a remaster. And conversely, if they don't want to do that, a remaster won't make them.

One hell of a dry spell that is.

Maybe they should have filled it with something. If not a remaster then a demo or something a few months before the game, or some tidbit for ME3.

It's going to be 4.5 years without a Bioware title for me, and I only play them and Bethesda, though thankfully that's covered.

Well, they might make a demo. It's just too early for any plans about it.

I guess I would settle (I am a console gamer) that if Bioware could make the Mass Effect trilogy on the computer to be controller compatible.  Would that really be asking for a lot? Just wondering

It does feel kind of bad that we'll have to wait out another fall for a new Mass Effect experience.

Sometimes I wish I was a fan of the Souls game afterall there seems to be a new and relatively high quality addition to the series every week. :P

You make it sound like moving the unreal engine 3 code to another engine (including UE4) is easy. Protip, its not.

Also moonshine got controller support on PC (like, real controller support) for ME2 and ME3 on the ME3Explorer forums.

Add Halo 1-4 and Gears of War to the list of brands that got a remaster.

Kind of reinforces my conviction that the venn diagram between the games that get a remaster versus games that don't need a remaster is almost a perfect circle.

If we're going to do something like this, make it count. Whatever they'll be doing with FF7 is probably the right thing to do, looking at the gameplay, rebuilding it from the bottom, making it a little more timely, making the broken things work better.

One of my points, exactly. I would have added COD to that list, but it's the Madden of shooters.
