Nothing Earth shattering, but still worth a read.

The writer sat down with Mac and Aaryn to dig in a little deeper and glean more info.

I really liked this part:

Flynn mentioned that it’s long been a regret of Walters that they spread the Mass Effect story far out over the entire Milky Way galaxy, with the game’s galactic map showing a civilization that appears to stretch from arm to arm without too many unexplored nooks and crannies.

"With Andromeda," said Walters, "our goal is to start that at a much smaller scale—though the scales are still massive—and give you a sense that there is much more to explore, rather than saying ‘here’s the whole galaxy.’"

So it sounds like we won't have the whole galaxy of Andromeda thrown at us at once.  This lines up with the leak.

"The next Mass Effect game takes place in the Helius Cluster (a cluster of 100s of solar systems in the Andromeda Galaxy)"

What I get from this is that we will be in one cluster, but it will be very dense with content.  Suffice to say that instead of a smattering of things across the whole galaxy that we got in the trilogy, they'll fit in the same amount of content into a much smaller space.  This give the franchise room to grow within the same galaxy.

You are a bit late, there already is a thread about the Ars technica article.

ME1 started this way too, more or less. Most of it was the Attican Traverse. Only place outside of it was the Citadel.

I don't see why they should regret spreading it out in ME2... that was part of the story. To gather the biggest badasses in the galaxy. And a way to see new civilizations up close (Krogan homeworld, Quarian fleet).

It does sound like they are very knowingly giving themselves more space in Andromeda to explore in future games after ME4.

I agree with Walters here: the mass relays eliminated the idea of a frontier. It is interesting to hear him mention this since I have been thinking the same thing for quite a while. A shame we have to leave the Milky Way to achieve this.

I don't get this. Sorry. There wouldn't even a Mass Effect plot without the relays. No Reaper plot, Or do you mean something else?

I thought I got plenty of the frontier feel, because it was human centric... and everywhere you went, human colonies were getting their asses kicked. Or human corporations were exploiting their own kind (kind of like Aliens). It felt like humans were in over their heads. To me, that's a frontier-ish feel.

That opening dialogue with Nihulus summed it up. "The galaxy is a dangerous place. Is humanity truly ready for this?"

I think what he means is that all of these colonies were already established and thriving by the time Mass Effect came around and that due in part because Humanity had a way to zip around the galaxy. Even though it was hard going we were twenty years into getting involved with the rest of the galaxy seriously and by ME2 we were a big part of politics.
