OK, so we got a new engine for MEA.

The same engine used in DAI.

DAI movement/combat/mouse control is a gigantic fail in comparison to ME3. (PC)

I do not want to turn this into a platform debate, but please, please Bioware, give MEA (both SP and MP) controls like ME1/2/3 and NOT DAI.

Except for "Sprint" sharing the same button/key as "Take Cover"...seriously fix that

I hope everything works. FWIW, isn't Frostbite a shooter engine originally? Maybe that will help.

Conversely, and in opposition of your topic...

I hope I can use a controller with the PC version at long last. There's no reason whatsoever why they can't optimize for both.

DA:I is not a TPS. Movement, camera, aiming are totally different.

Bioware can just copy the Battlefront controls if they want to.

Has little to do with the engine and more to do with design choices made by the developement team. ME:A, for all we know/expect, doesn't come with independent skycam and indirect character control like DAI.

I don't even know what this thread is about. Is he complaining about DA:I's gameplay, or button mapping, either way... what does it have to do with Frostbite?

Nothing to do with engine, everything to do with gameplay design.

Agreed.

But even with it's shortcomings, it is still worlds better than the abomination that is DAI.

"movement/combat/mouse control" is not a question of the used graphics engine. the only one you can blame for this are some lazy(/incompetent?) people at biowares PC-section.

You are worried about the controls? Well first of all the camera work in Mass Effect is totally different from Dragon Age. The camera is latched to your back, making the tps experience more intense, and making turning around feel different. Also it is a shooter and not a tactical fantasy rpg. I don't see them changing hotkeys and stuff like that when they have 3 games to take inspiration from. And it isn't really about Frostbite.

Good, then my hope is that my fears are groundless.

It isn't an engine issue (see battlefield on PC, same engine, works fine) as much as it is a design choice. I just hope they have the sense to stick with something similar to ME3 in UI design, just fix the journal.

Frostbite was originally designed as an Engine for shooters.  Consider the difference in controls between Battlefield and DAI.  That difference is because of design choices.

What MEA will do  will similarly be based on design choices, it won't be the engine's fault if they're terrible.

I'm more worried about netcode. BF4 is having problems and ME3's wasn't that great.

Hopefully they'll avoid the issues had with DAI.

This.

And even if it were an engine issue, Frostbite started life as an FPS engine. The logical gap between FPS and TPS is not that great.

This is the kind of game FB is made for. I think the FB engine is the least of the worries TBH.

ALthough as pointed out above the netcode is a worry as DAI's MP is plagued with connection issues.

They've been doing half-assed PC ports ever since ME2. The only reason ME1 wasn't bad was because an external studio handled it, plus it came out an entire year later. DA:I was a special one because it was before the DA team switched to console focus.

The focus has been on console since they joined up with EA. All they make sure for, is that the PC versions are properly optimized, but everything regarding interface and controls are an absolute afterthought and it has been for over 5 years now.

This has nothing to do with the engine so your worries are not in the right place. Its all in design and decision making.

Thanks Link. That certainly explains much.

BTW, I read an article yesterday that next year PC game revenues are projected to top console game revenues for the first time in a long, long time. (Will post link if I can find it again)

Hopefully this helps Bioware to not add us PC'ers on as an afterthought port-wise.
