Why does the character in the trailer wear N7 armor?  this new game has nothing to do with the original trilogy, right?

Insofar as the original trilogy's story goes. That doesn't mean that there should be no organizations that existed in the original story present here.

Why is the N7 logo on the left side of the chest instead of the right side like is seen when Shepard has his/her armor on?

N7 is not comprised entirely of Shepard and Shepard. It's like the Navy SEALs.

We have been told that the story "will have something to do with N7".

Has nothing to do with Shepard, yes. N7 though, is like the elite forces of the Alliance Military. Similar to the Salarian STG and Asaris Commandos.

The N7 has nothing to do with Shepard.

Shepard is not the only one in the N7 Program. Did you ever read every information about the N7's before making this topic? The N7 Program is a human military program that is focused in training only best soldiers and operatives humanity has to offer, like Shepard.

I'm betting that an N7 group was chosen to guard the civilian colonists given their training to handle basically everything.  I thought it might be interesting to see them devolve into some merc band that end up being antagonists, but Aaron Flynn said that their original noble purpose is intact.

Because N7 are the best human soldiers.  I hope our PC is N7 even if he isn't the guy in the trailer.

N7 has nothing to do with Shepard. It's an alliance training program, But contrary to popular, It's not called "N7", Or it's just called that because N7 is the highest rank in the program. In The alliance military, The "N" designates special forces and the "7" refers to the highest level of proficiency.  So, The first rank after the first N7 training is actually N1. And the alliance officially dubs the N7 program, "Interplanetary Combatives Training".

I'd wager our PC isn't even conventional military this time around.

The N1-7 rank consists of more people than just Shepard in lore, its just that we never ran into any of them in the original trilogy.

A real world analogy could probably be drawn to groups like the SAS and so on as to what being a N7 means.

I imagine they'd be akin to Captain Riley, and James Vega.

Well, That's because ....

"Initially, candidates train for more than 20 hours per day, leading small combat teams through hostile terrain with little sleep or food. Trainees who do well are awarded an internal designation of N1 and are invited to return. Subsequent courses - N2 through N6 - are often held off-planet and include instruction in zero-G combat, military free-fall (parachuting), jetpack flight, combat diving, combat instruction, linguistics, and frontline trauma care for human and alien biology.

The highest grade of training, N6, provides actual combat experience in combat zones throughout the galaxy. If the trainee survives these scenarios in "admirable and effective fashion," he or she finally receives the coveted N7 designation. N7 is the only ICT designation that may be worn on field or dress uniforms." - The Codex

Even Shepard's skimpy dress had N7 on it. I wish she had N7 earrings.

What does N7 mean for you?
To have the N7 logo as your avatar, that's a strange question you're asking.

Riley was N7, James hadnt even started training. No rank below N7 is allowed to be "worn" or used as a designation according to the lore

I didn't think that they really played it up that much. It was just a symbol Shepard walked around with, but it wasn't until ME3 that any character ever really discussed it, and not really at length.
