Just jump to store back and forth and search for lobby again if it is taking more than 1 min.
I do this too. Seems to help but sometimes there just don't seem to be games for the taking.
It's pretty dead some hours, particularly late night in my timezone -- basically right around now (I'm US PST, it's 11:23 PM). It's mostly long waits before getting dropped into some shitty GIP with 600ms ping when I queue up for gold. For most of the day though I haven't had any problems with matchmaking unless origin starts derping.
Ditto on the timezone and ditto on your experiences there. I get a lot of russians later in the evening for some reason. /shrug (I think they are using potatoes to host though.)
