By familiar faces I think they are referring to characters who weren't squadmates, like Bray, Gianna Parasini or Shiala.
Should be EDI for those who didn't commit genocide with all the nations before us or Liara for those who don't hate her.

I think the main reason that no one has mentioned Wrex is that he will at the youngest be right at 1000 years old, which would make him long in the tooth, even for a Krogan.
Of course, the whole basis on who is alive and who isn't is based on the idea that they have to use conventional FTL drives, with Council FTL, it would take 571 years. With Reaper Tech it would take 230 years. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't already some sort of Reaper built mass relay system already there. Heck, if you are millions of years old and only visit the Milky Way once every 50,000 years, 230 years is a short period.
Hey, I didn´t even think about what happens in Destroy. I only took it once, when romancing Garrus. Otherwise I always pick Paragon!Control.
As for the Beam Run... They can die? Never happened to me, I wasn´t aware it was a possibility.
