The primary reason behind whatever popularity Javik had seemed to be that players enjoyed his 'trolling.' His arc was unimpressive.

Javik was useless in ME 3.

Why? Is it because he calls it like he sees it? At least having him on the Thessia mission gave me a good laugh before Leng shows up.

What do You mean with Arc? His retrieval quest? His dialogues in the game?
Besides, I liked a lot bringing him to Thessia. He gave hindsight about the asari's past.

Can I just say how impressed I am someone brought up BLS in this thread?

Again though, I doubt any of it matters. One thing I would like to know, have we ever heard of a Krogan dying of natural causes? Grunt could end up like a 4000 year old sea turtle with how strong that boy is.

His character arc. His conflict and resolution. That which a character needs to be strong and well-written. Javik's was weak and sloppy.

I don't think it was mentioned, Though I think They have roughly the same lifespan then asari.

Wish I could have saved Eden Prime in ME3 yet leave Javik in his fridge.

Sorry for the off-topic, but I'm a huge BLS fan.  I got VIP tickets last year and got to meet him and JD.  He's certainly a rather smelly guy, but he's really sweet.  :D

I also really like Pride and Glory too.  Zakk sounded sooo good on that album.

He got some of the better lines in the series as well, when not trolling.

"Because you still hope that this war will end with your honor intact. Stand amongst the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence will be your answer."

"It was the day that I understood: War is an atrocity committed in the name of survival. It is a lesson I wish I had never learned."

Javik: We are all a product of our time. Had I been born in this cycle, perhaps I would be the noble scholar she wishes me to be.

Shepard: You think you'd like that? It is a whole different line of work.

Javik: I wouldn't know. Living a life of constant war, taking life in every battle...

Shepard: I see how it could be tough to see outside the box.

Javik: It is the only 'box' I have known.  It shapes me, as stone is shaped by the one who carves it.  The stone has no choice in the form it will take.  You and I Commander...war is our sculptor. And we are prisoners to its design.

Those lines might have been somewhat acceptable if the writers didn't have Shepard stare into space like a drooling moron and actually refute them properly.

That seems to always happen with 'evil' companions. It's acceptable to have them, but too few developers seem to understand the importance of giving the player character well spoken dialogue to put them in their place. Mass Effect thankfully isn't anywhere near as bad as Dragon Age, but it's still a problem.

put Javik in his place?  The guy who has seen it all before and knows firsthand what the Reapers can do and what is necessary to survive against them?

Yeah he obviously has no idea what he's talking about

I was glad to read that Javik's writer is returning as a Senior Writer on this game.

Yes, the guy who, so far as I can tell, has a total of zero actual successes under his belt. Good job on 'surviving.' You know, alone and all with no hope for the species. Or with any useful information whatsoever aside from a few history lessons.

Well the scoreboard on the Reapers vs the galaxy is something like a 1,000,000 to 1.

There aren't going to be many actual successes to talk about.

I think another reason for Javik's popularity is his voice actor, which is ironic in a way considering many were complaining about casting a Nigerian actor prior to release. Ike Amadi did a great job with the character, and he was probably one of the better casting decisions made with the series.

the fact that he didn't end up a small stain under a Reaper is enough success to make everything he says worth listening to

Considering the tactics he suggests didn't work during his cycle, no he doesn't.

the fact that any of them survived at all is a miracle.  That any protheans survived the cycle is a miracle, several hundred survived under his command, and unless you are going to say that its his fault that indoctrinated agents gave it up, or that the Reapers attacked it and did too much damage to continue, then you have to admit what he did was pretty impressive.

What the Prothean scientists on Ilos did was a miracle. What Javik was a part of was not. Impressive yes, but it's not a miracle.

And that doesn't change the fact that the Prothean's tactics and strategies were doomed to failure, thus my point that he has nothing of worth to say.

It's really entirely irrelevant either way.

Fiction is full of writers of who have characters who are super-skilled and complete huge deeds and yet make them idiots.
