It's because The Lobby consists of an unusual mix of bitter neckbeard contrarians like myself, heavy posting forum vets like Jimmy or LPPrince and people interested in socialising outside the context of BioWare games like leighzard or Voxr.

The result is a group of people, who, on aggregate, aren't easily swept up in a lot of SJW sentiment and romance-centric viewpoints that dominate the other boards because they dislike it, they see themselves as above it, or they simply aren't interested in it.

And that is before it gets really complex such as how to portray anyone of any gender and any race and any sexuality. I would say the entertainment industry is being held hostage had they not been quite involved in spreading this nonsense.

With the media, this is true. Not so much with the perpetually offended SJWs our universities are churning out, mindless zombies who only know social inequality through text books. That's a bigger problem.

 

And that are well opposed by those same universities (or sometimes high schools I guess) churning out bitter neckbeards who complain endlessly about everything under the sun on the internet, but start taking offense when people complain about stuff they don't care about. The more hardcore gaming populace needs some serious navel-gazing before it starts accusing anything else of being overly whiny if you ask me.

 

Honestly, the SJWs aren't the most annoying fringes of gaming culture. Not even close. I still find the racist/sexist trolls that populate places like Twitch chat and Youtube comments to be way worse. To say nothing of the fact that sexist and racist hate crimes are very much a reality, while the worse thing that radical feminists have ever done is yell at people on TV.

 

I'm not excusing the stupidity of wanting to censor ''mechanical apartheid''. That's completely silly, the term is appropriate. But keeping in mind how trashy internet culture often gets and how many think we should just all learn to deal with it, I wonder why the infamous SJWs in particular elicit so strong a reaction as if they were doing anything out of the ordinary. Maybe its the fact that their whining get the most influence, after all how many games have used the infamous buzzwords of "exclusivity" or "diversity" as a selling point for new titles or iterations of game over "improved gameplay" or "none drm" game content. Being more inclusive in the medium is good, but the denial that the medium was inclusive already is disingenuous and a myth created by Hollywood for the convenience of script writing. Diversity, likewise, is a great way of getting various viewpoints and story directions into a game, especially for rpg's, but should never be used as a be all/end all like it's treated now.

 

My personal theory is its a combination of all above, along with the various IRL things sjw's do to damage people around them. Stuff like doxing people, sending death threats, trying to hack accounts to teach people a lesson, massive lie and slander campaigns, and generally extreme hostility to anyone foreign.

 

It's a best of album of the worst internet traits. Take the nitpicky and isolationist mentality of a fandom, add in the moral proselytizing aspect of most political communities, and add in a no-holds-bar retaliation mindset of most trolls or hacktivists or normal hackers have, and then sprinkle a media that's willing to pander to them for support.

Considering how Bioware handles their games, I can't help but be surprised what all these people above are even doing at a Bioware forum. I guess these are the very same people who endlessly whine here about everything and anything connected to Bioware, despite still obviously playing their games and wasting their lifetimes on their forum.

Again, it's nowhere near exclusive to them. The whole thing about harrassment and doxxing was very much a two front battle as far as the whole GG vs anti-GG circus was concerned. Death threats are made over all sorts of stupid stuff by gamers, down to a Call of Duty devs getting some because he nerfed some guns, and Youtubers like Totalbiscuit mention getting many of them a year IIRC over various issues. The hostility to any dissenting opinion on stuff like 4chan or the off-topic section of the Codex at least equals the worst things I saw on Tumblr or the like. And even if my perception of this is wrong, that's still nowhere near as bad as the fact that some of the people broadcasting racist/sexist message on the internet actually act on them, like that psycho guy who shot up a church of black people. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I never heard of even the most hardcore feminists starting a shooting rampage and killing men left and right.

 

Because let's be real, those being denounced as SJWs are a fringe group even mong feminists and the like. They in no way represent all the progressive people on the internet. At least among those I know, and read about on more serious parts of the 'net, very few go so far as to denounce stuff like a dev speaking of ''mechanical apartheid''. At worst they're not going to be overly comfortable with the connotations, but that's hardly a crime.

 

As for the message being picked up by offical outlets... I dunno, I live in Montreal so maybe it's true regarding the much more ratings-hungry media in the US, but here this sort of message is only broadcasted when a guest to Radio-Canada or somesuch says so, and they always get challenged the very few times it does happen that I saw. It's certainly not a dominant opinion among the media where I come from. The media and politicians here are socially minded, sure, but that's hardly the same thing.

 

And anyway, as I said upthread, it's very probably less of an issue of the media buying their discourse, and more that they are a great controversy magnet and thus bring about higher ratings which is the be all and end all of news media everywhere. Thus they get invited and are allowed to spew their vitriol; their adepts listen, their detractors watch and complain about how much they suck, but most importantly, everyone concerned tunes to the program and hands out those juicy ratings revenues.

 

Anyway. This is just me saying a lot of people are making mountains out of molehills with these things. The more attention this type of ''news'' is given, the more the hated SJWs get coverage and are happy.

Even David Gaider quit his tumblr because of SJWs. That was in one of his last posts.

 

I mean, if your social justice attempts annoy Gaider, something's really gone off the rails. He's not exactly unfriendly to it for the most part. This is how bad it has become.

 

SJW's on tumblr are really mental. Say one thing they don't approve and you get death threats, shitloads of asks about them playing "high and mighty" and "lecturing" you. A lot of people deleted or changed their profiles due to this.
