You'll actually have sympathizers. I can think of more than three posters just off the top of my head who are extremely grossed out by the concept of human/alien romance. 

 

I have a tendency to favor human/human romances myself. I don't think that means that they should stop doing whatever they please and just make human LIs to suit my taste. Those of us who like human romances? We'll get human romances. I'd bet money on it. We don't need to worry. 

 

But I would caution people against treating this like a racial prejudice thing. I don't think being averse to relationships between different species, with entirely incompatible biology, is the same as being averse to people of different races becoming involved. 

 

Species =/= race. This is important.

We all know it will feature both human and interspecies romance. And that is quite ok. My favourite romances from Mass Effect has been with Liara, Garrus and Tali. Their species had nothing to do with it, they were just insanely well written and acted. I value that more than anything else.

Alien-Human "romance" is awkward, creepy and repugnant. Something like Vulkan-Human romance would be ok, but that is about it.

I understand it's difficult not to have sex with every alien you see if the option is there. I understand that it is physically impossible not to pursue all romance options.

I thought that they got real relationships spot on. I didn't hit it off with anyone in ME 1 or 2, and tried my damned hardest to pull anyone by ME 3. I got a gay relationship, despite being straight, in the game as everything collapsed around me. I was a pity ****, but I took it as it really felt like a reflection of my real life. Trust me when the world goes to a hand basket I'll be queuing up to be loved by whomever plans on killing us.

Considering Garrus and Liara's are the only good romance options in terms of dialog, attitude and his relationship with Shepard, I disagree with you. I'm a guy but 95% of the time I pick fem-shep because I hate the male voice acting and Garrus is just so fricking
LIKEABLE.
I'm hoping for a better male voice actor this time around and a Female Turian romanceable character, along with options for any new species you encounter.
