But I am irritated that they basically retconned Quarians as being closer to humans, when they were obviously intended to be chitinous like the Turians in the first Mass Effect, at least (Body structure, biology, the mask resembling the "side jaws" of a Turian, etc)

They never retconned the Quarians to being closer to humans. One of the books that came out before Mass Effect 2 established that they look a lot like us.

If I made a thread "Only alien romance, please. Human romance is repugnant." then I would probably get about 100+ likes.

Cuz BSN is gonna BSN.  :P

"Gay alien romances" if you really need these likes.

I do agree on the extreme Alien races, the Krogan, Rachni, Hanar, etc, don't want to see anything like that at all.

Oh, what a shame, such romances could be very intense.

Personally to me the Alien Romances only became annoying in ME3 when B-Ware decided certain LI's"Liara,Garrus & Tali" were given all the love hell Liara was practically shoved on the player from the very start it was pretty damn obvious B-Ware was pushing Shepard/Liara at the expense of vastly superior LI's like Ashley,Miranda & Jack.

So I don't care if B-Ware has Alien Romances just don't pull that BS again B-Ware if you have a character that you see as the PC's Cannon LI fine just don't give better options than that character.

Words of advice, don't try to argue with Silvair unless you want page after page of hilarity.

Quarians are obviously chitinous bug people, which perfectly explains the mammalian T&A.

For those curious, this old post has some earlier concept art of Tali without the mask;

http://mattrhodesart...ind-scenes.html

One of which is one of her earlier design concepts from before the mask was even a big deal; you'll note that none of them are "chitinous".

I thought quarians would' have a face more similar to humans/asari than other species since ME, when I met Tali.
Quarians have a more resistant body based on what Grunt said.
I understand that people might had a different opinion...though the mask resembing turians' jaws is far-fetched.
Turians and quarians have in common being dextro-DNA, but that doesn't mean they should be similar.

I think we should stick to earth bound relationships, man on woman, woman on woman, man on man, man on goat, man on sheep, man on ford escort, man on subway, man on apple pie and other such healthy relationships.

The train or the sandwich?

Even though I am a Jack-mancer I fully endorse alien romances. I originally romanced Liara but dropped her because BioWare made her such a Mary Sue. I would have romanced Tali but it seems selfish to endanger her health for sex and they kept making her seem like a teenage fangirl. And honestly Garrus is the only romance for FemShep I can get behind. Kaidan is a whiny *****, Jacob is as boring as Skeet Ulrich, and Thane is all religious and, ya know, dying.

To be fair, it was never really clear whether Grunt's comment was due to quarians having tough bodies, or whether it was because of the suit.

Well I respect your opinion, however, it's probably a guarantee that they will have an asari, quarian, turian... hannar that is going to be romance-able.. my advice.. don't romance aliens if you don't want it.

Everyone wins.

A guarantee that we'll see a Quarian romance?  Doubtful, I don't even see Quarians being in the game, they're too weak to even be considered as part of a cross galaxy mission(now obviously we have no idea how they actually get to Andromeda until it's explained, but regardless of the way, I don't see Quarians as being an option)

Asari, obviously they're an option, they're the default bisexual romance option.  Can't have a Mass Effect game without ploughing Asari, it just wouldn't be the same.

Turian, maybe, I don't see them throwing us another male Turian, so we'll likely have a female Turian, if one at all.  And now we have to play the balance game to make sure all sides are equal.  So doubtful it's even a romance option, having the 100% guaranteed female human option, the asari and now a female Turian, throws straight male players three options.  Too many if they're going to try to keep it even all around.

I didn't mind the Liara Mary Sue approach so much as the way it was so inconsistent, like Liara just couldn't decide who she wanted to be as a person.

IMO, if one doesn't want an Alien/Gay/Bi romance... don't romance them.  That's all.

With exception of

Spoiler
in DAI they don't actually chase after each other if the prot doesn't flirt with them.  And that was the only time, that I'm aware of.

True, though not it depends on the suit. Also, after all, if Grunt has access to data and memories from the Keogan Rebellion and before, he should know how a quarian looks and how resistant his/her body is.

Quarians skin can be harder to cut than Asari or Human skin, even if it looks the same as Human skin.

Or any other factors, such as the fact that cybernetics are ubiquitous in quarian society. The codex mentions it, and Tali's class passive description in ME2 explains the health increases with cybernetic augmentations.

Or the sweat....perhaps it's very dense?

I agree. I think their skin is 'harder' then humans. I meant that Grunt has likely access to memories of Krogans fighting quarians before they wore the suits, so he should know what they look like.

I don't think people should be trying so hard to understand ME's nonsense biology. I mean even on the scale of gibberish science endemic to the series, Bioware was particularly ignorant and incomprehensible in their take on biology. Everything from chemistry to genetics (to immunology, for the Quarians) was just out and out nonsense.

Whatever the writer was thinking he (or she) wrote that line, it probably had little to do with any coherent biological take on the Quarians. Because if Bioware cared about getting biology right, we wouldn't have the nonsense immunology we've gotten.

Quarian immunology isn't even that bad theoretically, its just elucidated very poorly and the evolutionary theory given on insects and pollen isn't really relevant at all. But yeah, krogan clutch size craps all over r/K selection theory. Humans are "genetically diverse" even though they are all descended from the few thousand individuals that survived the Toba catastrophe. Asari.......are just silly in every single concievable way. The levo-dextro chirality difference for turians and quarians should have nothing to do with food/ drink being edible or poisonous on its own, as humans can consume mint just fine for example. The list goes on.

Science is hard, which is why fiction writers mostly ignore it apart from creating a frame of reference for the setting.

Alien-Human "romance" is awkward, creepy and repugnant. Something like Vulkan-Human romance would be ok, but that is about it.

Thanks for reading. You can now type your snarky remarks if you have any.

Just like you probably!

So nope - you don't have to play the romances at all, so what's your beef? You can ignore them or romance the new Ashley (there will probably be a female human on the team...or a male if you swing that way (note: Not homophobic, so that would be fine with me!))...

Damned guys, release it - fast (unless it's as unfinished as DA2 was when you did!), so that people stop making threads like this!
