I really wish they had done a ME prequel based on the first contact war...the Comics, Games and Books made Shanxi out to be a decent slug fest.

I'd have loved this. Maybe just DLC if not whole game? :)

Eh...

I'd need to be a awakening sized dlc then given it was a major event.

I actually wrote out a brief storyboard idea for the event years ago; Its a mixture of ground combat between Alliance Marines and Army against the Turian Hierarchy forces and interspace combat between the Alliance Second Fleet and the Turian occupational fleet.

I would like a Krogan Rebellion game, where we plays as a Krogan.

I'm glad They didn't, Though it isn't because we'd fight and kill Turians.

Because its narrative would be based entirely around a single focal point? In this case the battle of Shanxi?

One of the reasons, yes. Plus the fact that we know too much about the event. I'm not generally fond of prequels, but if they'd do one I'd prefer one where we don't have many info on the major plot.

This would be a bad idea. First, prequels are too limiting. We already know the outcome which makes it harder to put tension into events. Second, we know what comes after so you can't do anything which creates a plot hole in the later events, which we already go to see. My go-to example of this is why R2D2 and C-3PO should not have been in the Star Wars prequels. Obi-Wan clearly has never seen them before in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Plus, how much ground fighting was there, really? According to Ashley, the Turians bombed the planet from orbit.

What about the Rachnii war instead?

That was done pre occupation before the garrison surrendered, the Turians then landed a literal army on the planet.

Its covered in the first contact comics

Right, so I didn't misremember anything. I was right about what was covered in the games and I didn't read any of the comics.

So any game you're proposing would be post occupation. So were you thinking playing some sort of resistance movement, or playing the reinforcements that came to liberate the planet? How much of that was a ground war?

As long as I can bring SpacePox and the religion of the Enkindlers to the primitives of Andromeda, while also banging their women I'll be happy.

There were around 600 Turian casualties during the First Contact War, and the entire war took place on Shanxi. You would burn through that number of mooks in a few missions. It'd be better as a mobile phone sidegame then as a true prequel game.

But, a Rachni War game may be interesting.

There wouldn't be any humans, so I beg to differ.

Seriously, no matter who we fight in the game, aren´t we the foreign invaders? Even if we settle an empty planet and other races discover it later, don´t they have a bigger claim on the planet since well, we are not even from the same galaxy?

Welcome to history of colonization.

Speaking of side games, I would totally buy an XCOM: Enemy Unknown style Mass Effect game.

Oh, I would play the hell out of a Rachni War gaiden game.

The opportunity to go play a crazy-awesome krogan warlord tearing through a bug army? No pesky humans hogging the spot light?

Yeah, sign me up for that.

While I disagree on Not being interesting, I doubt Bioware woul ever considering it exactly because it lacks humans.

Good point. I found it odd that they announced definitely human protagonist after all the complaints about that in Dragon Age 2. I know that was somewhat born from Orgins giving you the ability to play different races while you always played a human in ME, this is a new story so they could do whatever they want.

The BSN may not like a human-only PC particularly, but the statistics don't lie, and if most people play most of the time as humans...

DAI was meant to have human-only PC too. They added races because it got one extra development year and more resources. The same probably happened with MEA. I don't think they're against playable species, but They don't have infinite resources.

We're not talking about full on sequels here, we're talking about spin-off games.

Still, I suppose it falls into that same mentality. All characters in ME that would make great protagonists for their own game - Mordin, Wrex, Samara, Thane - and who is the one companion who actually starred in his own game? Jacob. The least interesting of the human squadmates.

Very true, both of you. And even in origins, once you got past the Origin, which was merely the introduction, there wasn't a great deal of difference. However it was still pretty cool. It would be interesting to have a world where more people reacted to you differently depending on the type of character.
